    Q
Treat irrigated horse pastures for misquitos
3 acres in Arizona Terrible mosquito problem after irrigating or rain Horses eat the grass
    A
Altosid® Pro-G may be applied as directed to temporary and permanent sites which support mosquito larval development such as irrigated horse pastures. Altosid Pro-G releases effective levels of the active ingredient Methoprene—a natural larvicide and IGR (insect growth regulator)—into the treated water source for up to 30 days after application. Exposed larvae will develop normally to the pupal stage, then die before becoming breeding, biting adults. Using the application rate table included with the product label, measure and then sprinkle the appropriate amount of Altosid Pro-G evenly over the surface of the water to be treated. To maintain optimal control, you should continue application of Altosid Pro-G every 30 days throughout the season. One 2.5 pound container of Altosid Pro-G will treat up to 5,445 square feet of water. When used according to the product label, this product will not cause any adverse affects in humans, animals, fish or vegetation.

    Q
How much Altosid Pro-G do I need to use and how often for a septic tank?
    A
Altosid Pro-G releases effective levels of ALTOSID insect growth regulator for up to 30 days after application. Applications should be continued throughout the entire season to maintain adequate control. Treated larvae continue to develop normally to the pupal stage where they die. The amount of product you use will be based solely on the amount of water you are treating. Please refer to the product label for more information. Usually mosquito larvae do not develop in septic tanks, so please be sure you have properly identified the insects you are seeking to control.

    Q
What product is more effective for mosquito larvae, Altosid Pro-G Granules or BTI Dunks?
    A

Altosid and BTI Dunks are equally effective for treating mosquito larvae in standing water. Their mode of action is slight different since they contain different active ingredients. BTI Dunks should only be used in containerized water, while the label for Altosid IGR has a broader range of areas where it can be applied.

    Q
Can Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide to be used to treat mosquito eggs in mulch?
Can this product be sprinkled into mulched areas in the backyard to help prevent the growth of mosquitoes? Will it be effective? We have a mulched area in the yard which can obviously retain moisture - want to know if this can help in those areas. We use Talstar for plants/shade/other areas.
    A

Yes, you could potentially use Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide around mulch beds or other areas where water may collect. It would be best to make this application just before or after rainfall so that it will dissolve in the collected areas. Altosid Pro-G will remain effective in water for approximately 30 days.

  • Asked by Larry from Tunnel Hill, Ga
    09/24/2012
    Q
Can Altosid Pro-G Granules be used in an in-ground pool?
    A

Altosid Pro-G Mosquito IGR can only be used in “abandoned” pools. It cannot be one that people are actively using and swimming in, and if you put it in the water and don’t use the pool, it would need to be drained and cleaned and refilled prior to reuse. If you have a working water pump and are chlorinating the water, then mosquitoes would not be able to breed in the pool. See our Mosquito Pest Guide for more information about treating for mosquitoes outdoors.

  • Asked by Ray from Nj

    Q
Is Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide or equivalent available for broadcast application using a mist blower or sprayer?
We live near wetlands with large amount of shallow standing water, is there an equivalent to the grannuals I. An broadcast over a large area in my backpack sprayer?
    A

The Altosid Pro-G would not be for mixing in water and applying as a spray, as its designed to break down over time when applied directly to standing water areas. The Altosid Liquid Larvicide however could be used in that manner for large area broadcast applications where shallow standing water exists.
