I am renovating my bermudagrass lawn in these next coming weeks and I want to kill all weeds in the lawn. Can MSM Turf Herbicide be used to kill all the weeds and allow me to still reseed with a bermuda/fescue seed as I have shade and sun in the yard. When should I plan to aerate the lawn? Before seeding o after seeding?

Answer:

MSM Turf Herbicide can be applied as a broadcast application on Bermudagrass at 0.25 - 1.0 oz per acre. There may be some temporary chlorosis on desirable turfgrass. Since fescue can be sensitive to MSM Turf Herbicide, you should not seed for 2-4 months after applying this product unless you have done previous testing to indicate this is not an issue. Please refer to the product label for complete instructions and precautions.

Regarding your seeding in general, usually cool season turf like fescue is seeded in the fall and warm-season grasses like Bermudagrass are seeded in early summer.  If you do plan to schedule an aeration for your lawn it is important that any pre-emergent herbicide be applied after the aeration is completed. Aeration can be done spring-summer excess moisture is known to sit on the grass.
