Q

Application Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate- totally within the circle area or just at the "band"?
Should this product be applied to the whole area within the circle i.e. from the tree out to the 24" marker or just in a narrow band at the 24" marker?

A

Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate works best if applied around the base of the tree. You do not have to apply all the way out to the marker.

Is it harmful to use the Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate more than once a season?

A

It is not harmful to use this product more than once per season, however you normally do not use it more than once every 6 months if conditions are bad enough to need a second treatment. The product should last through new growth of the plant for at least 1 year.

Q

I have Leland Cyprus trees that are browning. Will annual tree and shrub insect control concentrate work?
The trees get plenty of water and are well established (20+ years old). I have used the Bayer product that offers fertilization as well, but it's so expensive. I believe the trees may have been attacted by some type of borer. Will this product work? How can I identify the problem?

The product will take care of many issues, but of course we cannot make any guarantees when you do not know for sure what the issue is. You can call a local lawn and turf company, or landscape company to do a free evaluation of your yard and they can maybe shed some light on the issue your cypress trees are having.

The rate for Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate is 1 oz per inch of circumference of the tree trunk to one gallon of water per the product label. So a tree with a diameter of 12” has a circumference of 37.7” inches you would use 37.7 oz of product.

If Cypress trees have been sprayed with malathion should I treat with Imidacloprid
My cypress lelands have signs of bores and browning needles. I am paying to have them sprayed with malathion. Should I also soak the soil ( currently July) and apply imidacloprid for absorbtion into the tree?

Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate is not labeled for ants. Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate is a soil drench which is taken up by the root system of the tree and then translocated internally throughout the plant, making it unavailable to any insect that is not feeding directly off of the tree. Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate will control aphids however and ants tend to be naturally drawn to trees that harbor aphids because they produce honeydew, an important food source for the ants. In many cases if you get rid of the aphids the ants ants will go away as well. If you want to directly control the ants you will need to choose a topical product such as Talstar P. You can spray the foliage and also around the base of the plants with Talstar P to control the ant population.

Annual Tree and Shrub will not help with Cercosporidium. You can use Daconil. Botryosphaeria dothide is a fungal pathogen. Please contact your Cooperative Extension Office for the best ways to prevent Botryosphaeria dothide.

The only restrictions for applications to Trees on the product label when applying Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control Concentrate is to not apply more than 3.2 gallons of the product per year and do not apply this product, by any application method to linden, basswood, or other Tilia species.

Review more information on application for trees starting on page 5 of the product label. The mix rate is 1 oz. of this product per inch of circumference of the tree trunk to one (1) gallon of water. Refer to the mixing chart for the amounts of this product needed.
