Applied Bonide Systemic Granules Insect Control 1-2 weeks ago. A number of plants have a fuzzy white growth around the granules, is this a concern?

Answer:

The Bonide Systemic Granules Insect Control is made on a clay based carrier for the ingredients. Often fuzzy growth will start when there is excess moisture in the soil or on the top of the soil where the granules are sitting, causing little fungal growths. This can also often happen if they are fertilized regularly or over fertilized and the nutrients the plants cannot take up sit on the soil surface and being to grow into algae and fungus. According to the instructions on the bottles Product Label, it states for containerized plants this product should be incorporated into the top 1-2 inches of soil before being watered in, and for flower beds or shrub it can be sprinkled on just the surface. Try drying your soil/plants out a little as the label does state to not have the soil too wet over the first 10 days to ensure proper absorption of the chemical.
