    Q
How much does one 30lb bag cover?
I have approx. 30,000 sq.ft. of lawn and a MAJOR chinch bug problem. Can I use a Scott's Edge Guard Deluxe Broadcast Spreader? If yes, what setting (2-15)? How many 30 lb. bags do I need for the first round, and how many bags will I need for the second round 30 days later? Also, when is the best time of year to do these applications?
    A
You will need roughly 60-80 lbs of Arena .25 Granules per year for your property. You can apply half now and the other half later. You can use whatever spreader you choose and you will need to check with the manufacturer to understand how to calibrate the spreader as every model is different. You should start applying Arena .25 Granules just before the chinch bugs become active in your region. Most people are able to recall what month they have noticed damage in the past and they start making application a couple of weeks before that. For more specific timing you should call your local cooperative extension office as they will be able to narrow down the timing in your area.

    Q
Can you collaborate with the major manufacturers of the spreaders to determine the proper settings?
What is the setting on X spreader? All the answers below say to refer to the manufacturer of the spreader. Asking Scotts does no good as they say Arena is not their product so they don't know the variables to determine what the setting would be. It would be more helpful to your customers to buy a few of the most popular spreaders and find out what the settings should be. There is an obvious need for that information that the manufacturers seem unable to help with.
    A
We spoke with the manufacturer, Valent USA Corp on the proper settings using a Scotts Spreader using Arena .25 Granules.  You will want to set the speader setting at "I" or "J" to give you 80lb-100lb of product per acre depending on the pests you are treating. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Q
Can Arena 0.25 Insecticide Granules be applied to new St. Augustine Sod that laid down 4 days ago?
    A

  • Asked by Mark from San Francisco, Ca
    07/16/2021
    Q
What VOLUME of Arena to use on 1500 sq. ft. of lawn?
Prefer not to use weight of a product, but use ounces or cups. So how many ounces or cups of Arena should be applied to 1,500 sq. ft. of well-established rye=bluegrass lawn?
    A
The Arena Granule use rate on lawns is determined by the pest being treated for, in a range from 80-160 lbs per acre, or 1.8 to 3.6 lbs per 1000 sq/ft, according to the Product Label. The manufacturer measures and recommends measuring by weight when applying their product for optimum accuracy. If you wish to convert the weight into volume for your uses, you likely can find calculation tools that can provide this conversion on Google or similar search engine.

  • Asked by Mike from Jacksonville Florida
    09/10/2021
    Q
What spreader setting would Arena 0.25 Insecticide Granules be set if using a Scotts Turf Builder Spreader? I am treating 9k to 10k sq ft and will make 2 applications over a 2 month period.
    A

Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo and the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on How to Calibrate your Spreader Video

For further assitance on correct spreader settings, contact Scotts directly at 888-270-3414

  • Asked by Miguel from Miami, Fl
    02/19/2022
    Q
What are the risks if Arena 0.25 Insecticide Granules was applied to a St. Augustine lawn?
Applied 2 x 30lb bags on 11k sq ft of St. Augustine.
    A

Because Arena .25 Granules is an insecticide, there should not be a negative effect on your St. Augustine grass. Unfortunately, you have exceeded the yearly rate of Arena .25 Granules in the area used. Per the product label, for turfgrass applications you should not apply more than a total of 160 lbs per acre per season, which means no more than 40 lbs per 11,000 square feet.
