Bad damage to maple tree from borers. Will tree wrap help?

this year bark all off and deep crevices on trunk . I used permethrin to treat this summer. All pretty much closed up now. I see a little new growth. If I put tree wrap on trunk will that help to save tree and keep borers out next year?
