    Q
What to do if I put down too much Bifen Granules? Are the granules safe for my kids and pets?
I accidentally put down about double the maximum recommended amount of Bifen Granules- 14 pounds for 2000 sqft.
    A

Bifen granules will not kill your lawn, however, we do not recommend applying more than the product label states. This can be hazardous to your health, and could potentially adversely effect the eradication of the targeted insect. Bifen Granules are safe for use on yards where children and pets will walk as long as you follow the product label. Be sure that both children and pets are out of the area during the application and until the treated area is dry. When applied as directed, there is only enough active ingredient to harm small insects. We would ecommend that you contact Control Solutions, the manufacturer, at 281-892-2500 and your veterinarian for further assistance.

    Q
Are the granules too fine for a lawn spreader?
I have a larger 50lb walk-behind broadcast spreader (Earthway 2150). Are the granules too fine for this spreader?
    A

We don't have the exact spreader setting to apply Bifen Granules with your model spreader. The easiest way to determine the correct setting for your needs is outlined below:

Ex: If you need to use 3 lbs of product per 1,000 sq ft you would add 3 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft).  If you have product left, your setting is too low.  If you run out of product, your setting is too high

Can I put Bifen Granules down with a fertilizer?
If not, how long before or after a fertilizer application can I apply?

Yes, Bifen Granules can be applied at the same time as fertilizers. You want to be sure the spreader settings for the fertilizer and the Bifen Granules are the same to ensure proper application.

  • Asked by Otis from Thomson, Ga

    Q
Will Bifen Granules work as a bait too?
Does it work to kill insects on top of the ground or can it be used to kill and maintain fire ant hills? The queen stays near bottom of the hill so it would need to be carried by the worker ant to the queen.
    A

Bifen Granules are an insecticide granule that kills insects on contact: it is not a bait. Bifen Granules can be used as a drench on fire ant mounds. In this treatment, you are relying on the water to break down the granule and carry the active ingredient deeper into the soil. We outline both insecticide and bait treatments for fire ants in our Guide online here.

    Q
Will Bifen Granules control and kill flying beetles?
    A

Bifen Granules are not used for flying insects including flying beetles. Most flying insects may not touch areas treated. We would recommend the liquid, Bifen IT. It is mixed at 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. Please refer to the product label for complete mixing and application instructions. This will offer some control if applied to the trees, bushes and grass.

    Q
Can Bifen Granules be used around ponds? Is it safe around chickens and ducks? (Free range animals)
    A

Bifen Granules should not be used around ponds. Run off from the surface where you apply a product can be extremely deadly to fish. Bifen Granules are not labeled for use in poultry areas, so we would not suggest it for this use. Regarding other animals, you would need to keep animals out of the treatment area until the granules have been watered in and the application is dry. You could, however, use Bifen IT liquid insecticide, which is labeled for use in poultry houses. You should keep any animals out of the treatment area until the application is dry.

    Q
Are Bifen Granules a repellent or non-repellent insecticide?
    A

Bifen Granules would be considered a repellent as far as social insects such as ants are concerned. This is because the product kills insects quickly which come in contact with treated areas, as opposed to the slower action in non-repellent products which allow the active ingredient time to transfer among social insects.

    Q
When is the best time to apply Bifen Granules to treat for Cicada killers?
The Cicada Killer males are flying around like crazy but no holes in lawn yet.
    A

For preventative control, applying the Bifen Granules now will treat before the Cicada Killers start burrowing into the ground and help reduce the population. Once they have started to burrow and make holes in the ground, then you can apply the Tempo 1% Dust. Also, the Bifen LP Granules would not yield immediate results, but stop them from returning the following year.

    Q
Can Bifen LP Granules be dissolved in a sprayer and applied in that fashion?
    A

Bifen Granules should never be applied through any sprayer of any sort. This is a granule that should be applied with a spreader only and once applied to the yard watered in by sprinkler or irrigation or light rain to activate it. These are granules that are designed to break down slowly over time and last over a period of 2-3 months dependent on weather over that time frame. If you wish to spray an insecticde on your lawn you should use Bifen I/T which is a liquid concentrate product forumlated for that use.
