    Q
Should I continue using Bifen I/T or switch to another general purpose insecticide?
I am currently using Bifen I/T for my exterior home spraying every 3 months. The bottle is nearly empty and I need to purchase more. Would it be best to continue with this product or switch to another product? I remember reading that insects can build up an immunity so it is good to change from time to time. I have had very good luck with Bifen I/T in getting rid of my ants and spiders. If you do recommend changing, then what do you recommend? Thanks!
    A
It normally takes many years for insects to build a resistancy to insecticides. If you are still experiencing good results from Bifen I/T then I would recommend continuing with Bifen I/T. The price and effectiveness cannot be matched.

    Q
Can you mix Bifen IT with cedar wood oil?
I am trying to keep our property as organic as possible. We tried using cedar wood oil last year to control the mosquitoes and it definitely helped to knock the population down but not to a level we would like. Can we mix a smaller portion of the Bifen IT with the cedar wood oil and then spray with the Solo 451?
    A
While you can spray Cedar Oil and Bifen IT in the same place for mosquito control we do not recommend mixing the products together. Bifen IT is water based and will not mix with the cedar oil and it could cause the products to be unstable and could also cause clumping which will clog your sprayer.

  • Asked by Jack from Southeastern Pa

    Q
Why is the upper yield of quart container 3x the upper yield of the pint container
the lower yield number of the quart container is 2x the lower yield of the pint container (32 vs 16). But the upper yield of the quart is 3x (96 vs 32) the upper yield of the pint. Shouldn't it be 64?
    A
Bifen IT is mixed at .5 to 1 oz per gallon of water.  One pint of the Bifen IT will make 16-32 gallons of finished solution.  One quart will make 32- 64 gallons, while a 3/4 gallon will make 96 to 192 gallons.

    Q
Will Bifen hurt pine and redwood? Do mosquitoes hang out in these evergreens or in landscape bark?
    A
Bifen IT will not harm your trees. It is very gentle on trees, shrubs, lawns and ornamentals. Mosquitoes tend to harbor on the undersides of the leaves. Be sure to mix 1 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft and treat monthly. We also suggest adding an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Pivot 10 to impede the insects reproductive cycle.

    Q
Which product recommended to kill mosquito?
I own a still backpack fogger. Right now I'm using vector ban plus to kill the mosquitos at home. It works but it seems like I need to spray every night. We get afternoon showers every day at this time of the year in the south which brings out more mosquitos. I was thinking of ordering Bifen and Demon Max and spraying them in rotation. Any advice on any of these 3 products are another recommendation would help. I want a quick kill and I also would like a residual
    A

Vector Ban Plus does not leave any kind of residual so will only kill the mosquitoes that are out in the open at the time you are applying to product.

You are on the right track with using a residual product like Bifen IT or Demon Max, it is actually our most popular product for mosquitoes.  The key is to apply it to the underside of leaves of trees and bushes as that is where the adults lay during the day. Bifen would be the more recommended as it known to be super gentle on plants but you can rotate them as well.

    blue spruce caterpillars
Caterpillars have been dining on my blue spruce trees. They are now in cocoons. Is it too late to spray in September, or should I wait until next spring? Will Bifen do the trick?
    A
Bifen IT is labeled for caterpillars and can be sprayed on blue spruce trees. It is not too late to spray as Bifen IT can be used all year around in non-extreme temperatures. When you are spraying, make sure to spray the top and underside of the leaves. You will use .25 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
    Bifen IT stained my floors....
I sprayed Bifen It just under all my kitchen cabinets and now everywhere I sprayed my dark brown linoleum floor has a cloudy white stain. I've tried plain water, detergents, cleaners at diluted and full strength. Any idea how I can get this up? I did dilute the Bifen according to the instructions.
    A
Bifen IT is a non-staining product. We would recommend contacting the manufacturer and speaking to them about the stains on your linoleum. Their phone number is 281-892-2500. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by Sarah from Honolulu, Hi

    Q
What spray can I use to get rid of brown banded roaches?
We are living in Hawaii and it is now the rainy season. We had Ecolab come spray our home a little over 2 weeks ago, and now we have spotted a roach on our kitchen floor near the sink. I am pregnant and am worried about using pesticides, but I can have my husband do it and we can leave our home for the day. I don't want these things coming inside. We also have an ant problem here, but I am much more comfortable with ants than roaches.
    A
Bifen IT is a very good general insecticide that can be used indoors and outdoors for roach and ant control. You will mix 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. We would recommend spraying when it is not raining and will not be raining for at least 6 hours. We would also recommend using Gentrol IGR (insect growth regulator) to stop the roaches from reproducing. Once the product is dry, it is safe for you to return into the home/room where the products were sprayed. This could take 2-3 hours so you do not have to leave for the day.

    Q
    Bifen Application For Termite Control
I recently purchased a couple of gallons of generic Bifen from your company to apply for termite control. My question relates to whether I need to apply the product around the perimeter of my entire house. The house is typical "brick and stick construction" built entirely on a concrete slab. The front of the house has 2 raised porches which are on the same concrete slab as the rest of the house. In the area of the porches, the walls are approximately 6' from the outer edge of the slab. Do I need to apply the Bifen on the perimeter of the slab in the area of the porches It's difficult to describe the situation, but maybe I can send a couple of pictures to help illustrate the question. Thanks - Mike
    A

When doing a soil barrier treatment for termites, it is important to treat directly against the structure on all sides of the house as close as possible. Against the foundation of the home,  dig a 6 x 6 trench around the entire perimeter. Where carports and concrete patios are existing, you will drill 18-24 inch holes 2-3 inches off the foundation wall 10-12 inches apart. This will ensure the soil under that concrete slab is protecting the actual house foundation. Please read our on How To Perform A Termite Treatment Article for more detailed instructions and recommendations.

While Bifen IT is labeled for termites and will last up to 5 years in the soil, we would recommend using Termidor SC or Dominion 2L for termite soil barrier treatments. Termidor SC bonds to the soil after 24 hours and will last 10 years and Dominion 2L will last for 7 years.

    Q
So where does the "much less expensive" part start?
Everyone claims this is just like Talstar, but quote "much less expensive". It's nearly the exact same price!!
    A
There are different sizes of Talstar P and Bifen I/T and prices can fluctuate based on fair market value at the time of purchase. If you compare the price of each product respectively to their sizes there is a substantial savings available. For example, a quart of Talstar P is priced at $36.50 right now but a quart of Bifen I/T is listed for $22.64 - That is a savings of $13.86 for the same size container!

    Q
If possible, I would like to also treat for spiders and ants. Is all of this possible with one solution?
I have a 3 story building with hard to reach places around the soffit. I have a problem with carpenter bees/wasps and the soffit around the building is wood. I would like to be able to treat the building using a solution that can be applied with a PRESSURE WASHER to reach the areas not easily accessible with a ladder. It would be great if I could spray down the building with one solution.
    A

We would recommend applying a product like Bifen IT in our Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer. This sprayer will reach well over 30ft. We do not carry any products that can be applied in a pressure washer for this type of insect control. You will mix the product at 1 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft monthly on the exterior. Please let us know if you need anything else.

  • Asked by Gary from Pahoa, Hi

    Q
Does Bifen IT degrade if container is left in the sunlight?
I left my container of Bifen IT on the side of my house for a month, where it gets a few hours of tropical sun (Hawaii). It as yellowed some, but seems otherwise OK. Will it still work or should I throw it away (properly) and buy new?
    A
Insecticides should be stored out of extreme heat and direct sunlight. The yellowing may have been the container turning rather than the concentrate. The sunlight and heat degrade the active ingredient and greatly reduce the shelf life, so you would probably be best served using fresh product.

    Q
    rainfall after application
I just applied Biffen for mole crickets and it rained right after application. Do I need to reapply?
    A
Bifent IT is usually watered in after a mole cricket application so the rain most likely just aided you in your control efforts as the immature mole crickets are just under the soil. Info from the Bifen IT product label :To ensure control of sub  surface pests including
Mole Cricketsusing low volume treatments, (i.e. less than2 gallons per 1000 sq
uare feet), immediately follow the treatment with irrigation of the treated area with at
