    Q
    Bifen IT residual?
I recently sprayed my yard and turf grass with this product, was wondering if the product will still work after heavy rainfall. It was dry for 24 hours prior to rainfall
    A
Bifen IT has a residual of up to 2 months indoors and out. As long as the product was dried, before the rain, it should not have washed away.

  • Asked by Vanessa from Corinth Ms

    Q
I have an above ground pool with a deck around it and has become a breeding Mosquito.
There is a ditch around bottom of pool filled with leaves and is probably damp. Will the Bifen spray kill Mosquitos that may be breeding underneath the leaves?
    A
Bifen IT will only kill the mosquitoes that are sprayed directly or that contact a treated surface.  The best thing to do would be to try an eliminate the leaves and debri in the ditch to remove the breeding site for them and apply Bifen to the underside of leaves of trees and bushes as that is where the adults during the day.

    Q
How much Bifen it do I put in a hose sprayer to treat a 1000 square feet
    A
You can use between .5 and 1 ounce per gallon of water for 1000 sqft of Bifen IT. Depending on how your hose end sprayer is set up, you would need to select one of those two rates on the dial to properly dilute it.

    Q
What if my pets ingested Bifen IT?
    A
We would recommend contacting a veterinarian if your pet ingests Bifen IT and exhibits signs that they have been poisoned. We do recommend making sure that pets are out of the area until the product has completely dried.

  • Asked by Jeff from Fouke, Ar
    07/12/2015
    Q
Would it be better to treat with Bifen IT or Bifen XTS for my cypress trees that are covered with bagworms in cocoons?
How much do you mix per gallon for best results?
    A

Bifen IT is a good choice for bagworm control.  The product label recommends mixing at the rate of 1 oz per 1000 sq ft in approximately 1 gallon of water. Bifen XTS is an oil-based insecticide that is only for outdoor use, while Bifen IT is water-based and has a broader label.  However, it is important to start control methods before infestation occurs. Once the bagworms have matured and have formed the "bag" most chemical control methods will no longer work.

Once the bags have formed, you can manually control bagworms by simply plucking them off of the infested trees and dropping them into a bucket of soapy water or squishing them.

    Q
Can I spray Bifen IT inside window frames and floorboards?
I want to treat around my home for spiders and ticks. Is it safe to spray indoors? Where is the best place to spray? Thank you.
    A

Bifen IT is designed to be applied in window frames and other cracks, crevices and entry points of the home. Also, around the outside perimeter of your home. For ticks, you may also need to mix in an IGR like Nyguard to break down the reproductive cycle.

  • Asked by Tim from Saltillo, Ms

    Q
Can I use Bifen IT in my garden?
What do you suggest for use in a vegetable garden? I am currently growing Kole crops (mustard, turnips collards) and I have aphids. Is there anything that can also be used on tomatoes, squash, okra? I am looking for a all in one spray.
    A

Bifen IT is not labeled to be used on anything edible so would not be recommended. For vegetable garends we would recommend using the Fertilome Triple Action. It is an insecticide, miticide and fungicide in one. For systemic treatment of aphids, you could also use the Fruit Tree & Vegetable Systemic Soil Drench.

  • Asked by Kayla from Fort Lauderdale, Fl
    11/17/2016
    Q
How long does Bifen I/T to kill a tick?
    A

When using Bifen IT for ticks, there can be several variables. How long it takes the ticks to die after they come into contact with a treated area will depend on a number of factors, such as the age of the tick as well as how long they stayed in contact with the treated area, how long it has been since the area was treated, and the concentration that was used to treat the area. Typically it can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a day or so for them to die. It can take several weeks for you to stop seeing ticks completely because ticks like to stay hidden, which also means they could be staying away from treated areas. We recommend doing follow up treatments every two weeks at the highest usage rate of 1 oz of product per gallon of water until you do not see any ticks.

    Q
What is the difference between bifenthrin and Bifenazate?
I'm trying to figure out which products I should use in rotation for spider mites. What is the difference between Bifenthrin and Bifenazate? Are they safe to use in a pesticide rotation one after the other or are they basically the same?
    A

Bifenthrin and Bifenazate are used to treat different types of insects. Bifenthrin is mainly for general pest control use and is an ingredient in products such as Talstar P and Bifen IT.  Bifenazate is a type of miticide and is an ingredient in products such as Floramite SC and Sirocco Miticide. We would not recommend rotating these two products for mite control. Bifenazate is a good active ingredient for spider mites, as well as Abamectin, which is the active ingredient in Avid 0.15 EC.

    Q
Can you mix Bifen IT with Mosquito Barrier for an effective monthly treatment??
I typically use Mosquito Barrier for my business, but if I could add some of this in with the Mosquito Barrier I think the Bifen IT can make up for some of the shortcomings of Mosquito Barrier (particularly rainfall).
    A

While you could tank mix the two, the Mosquito Barrier is going to work against the effectiveness of the Bifen I/T for probably at least the first week or two. You are spraying Bifen on surfaces moquitoes would land on and harbor in so that when they touch the treated surface they pick it up on their bodies and die from it. If you are spraying Mosquito Barrier you are using it to repel the mosquitoes away from areas you dont want them or are trying to keep them from harboring. So essentially by mixing the two together, you are repelling the mosquitoes away from the Bifen I/T so it would not affect them. Outside of an initial contact kill the mosquito barrier isn't going to provide killing action for you long term, only repellency. Bifen is actually the better product to use on a consistent basis in main target areas on the property where mosquitoes would be found, and use the Mosquito Barrier around patios and other "hangout" areas to keep them at bay until they have died from landing on the Bifen-treated surfaces.

    Q
How does Bifen IT compare to Temprid SC as an overall broadcast spray?
    A

It depends on where you need to treat.  Bifen IT and Temprid SC are similar as both contain a synthetic pyrethroid. Both are labeled for indoor and outdoor use, but Temprid SC is not labeled for turf and ornamental treatment.  Bifen IT is labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests. They are both great insecticides and can be alternated to avoid resistance.

  • Asked by Lauren from Riverton, Utah

    Q
Will Bifen IT help with clover mites?
We have clover mites in our windows inside and outside. There are no plants near these windows and they are not low to the ground (near grass). We have tried peppermint and also had the bug guy come out three separate occasions. The bugs die but always come back. Will Bifen IT help get rid of them and how many times would we need to spray? We also have dogs in the house is this spray harmful to them?
    A

Bifen IT can be used to kill clover mites and will leave a residual of up to 30 days outside.  It will not repel them from the area but instead will continue to kill those that contact a treated surface after application.  We have a guide here with more information on treating and preventing this pest.  Pets need to be kept out of the area while products are being applied but can return once all surfaces are dry.

  • Asked by Ernie from Tempe, Az
    10/15/2016
    Q
Why did Bifen IT mixture have no effect on a spider?
I sprayed a strong concentration of Bifen IT mixture directly on a spider and it had no effect. Is there something I can mix with the Bifen to get spiders?
    A

Bifen IT is not designed to kill on contact and even when you spray an insect directly it can take several minutes or longer to kill it.  It will help to kill the ones that contact a treated surface as well as their food source, but how long it takes to kill after application depends on age and health of the insect, how long after application they contact the treated surface and how long they spend on the treated surface.  Spiders themselves are harder to kill as they do not groom themselves and have the long legs to keep themselves off the ground and in more contact with a treated surface.  We have a great guide here for treating spiders that might also help. If you are going to be spraying spiders directly each time, you could add a product like ExciteR to Bifen to give it a faster initial knockdown only.

  • Asked by David from Olive Branch, Ms
    10/22/2016
    Q
Will Bifen I/T help with fungus and white spots on crepe myrtles?
I also have brown spots on a lot of my plants.
    A

Bifen IT is for insects only and will not treat fungus or other causes of spots on plants.  It is important to identify the disease on your plants so that you can select a product that will work for your needs. You can contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff for help identifying the type of disease on your plants
