    Q
I used Diazinon for years. Do you have an equivalent product?
I sprayed for ticks, mosquitoes, and general yard insects. It was very effective. I have tried several products since and nothing works as well. Your suggestions?
    A

Yes, we do have products that are comparable to Diazinon since it has been outlawed due to safety regulations. We would recommend Bifen IT. It is great for indoor and outdoor use. Indoors, you will spray along the baseboards and cracks and crevices. It lasts for 90 days. Outdoors, you can broadcast across your lawn, spray along the perimeter of your home, on flowers and also ornamentals. This lasts for 30 days outside. This product is not labeled to be sprayed on edibles. It is labeled for ticks, mosquitoes and various other pests as well.

After spraying indoors, and it has dried, do I need to clean those areas that I sprayed?
    A

No, if applied as a crack and crevice application along baseboards, around window and door frames, in corners, under cabinets & sinks, etc as instructed per the product label, the areas where Bifen IT has been applied do not need to be cleaned after application.

    Q
What is best to use on my lawn in Florida for various bugs including fleas and ants?
    A
We would recommend using Bifen IT to control various insects in your lawn. It is labeled to be broadcast across the yard, on ornamentals, trees, flowers, etc. It is NOT labeled to be used on edible plants. This can also be used indoors as a crack and crevice treatment along the baseboards. You will mix 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
How close to a lake can I spray Bifen IT to kill mosquitoes?
    A

Bifen IT is not designed to be used along the perimeter of lakes since it is harmful to aquatic life. We recommend keeping Bifen IT treatments at least 25 feet from bodies of water to avoid runoff into the lake. You could use EcoVia  instead which many folks use to treat their docks for mosquitoes and other insects.

    Q
If using Bifen IT for armyworms in my lawn, when should a do a follow up application?
When I initially applied, I had moths, worms and pupa present. Based on the life cycle of the army worms, how long would you recommend waiting before a follow up treatment to address the pupa which would not have been affected by the product?
    A

For Armyworm control, Bifen IT is applied at 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft with repeat applications done every 30 days.

Please view our Armyworm Treatment Guide for more information.

    Q
Is there another product with longer residual other than Bifen IT in the Texas heat?
I've been using Bifen IT here in the Dallas summer heat and it's been doing ok. I spray on concrete, around our house and all of our flower / garden areas. We live next to a pond/lake and trying to control mostly spiders, mites, mosquitoes, silverfish, fire ants, crane fly.
    A

Bifen IT is a great product for all the insects you have mentioned, but another good product to be used outdoors is Cyzmic CS. That is because Cyzmic CS has a CapVantage Micro Encapsulation which means that each droplet of insecticide is encased in a protective microscopic capsule, providing a long residual, even in direct sunlight or other harsh weather conditions. The only insect Cyzmic CS is not labeled for that you mentioned is crane flies. Most products are still only going to provide a 30 day residual outdoors in the summer. Be sure to check out our Pest Guides for more details about the most common structural pests.

    Q
Confused, I am treating for army worms and chinch bugs do I water Bifen IT in after application are not ?
    A

When using Bifen IT for armyworms irrigation is not necessary. You actually need to try to have no irrigation or rainfall for at least 24 hours after the application. Under chinch bug treatment it does advice that in order to optimize the penetration of the insecticide you can water the area prior to the treatment. If grass is being kept at a long mowing height or if the thatch layer is excessive, use higher volume treatments. It may be necessary to use higher application rates (up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) to control populations made up of both adults and nymphs in mid-summer. Complete instructions are on the product label for each pest as well.

    Q
Can Bifen IT be used with a thermal fogger?
If so, would you mix the same concentration in oil as you recommend with water? I prefer a thermal fogger because I have a 5 acre property and need to infiltrate the deep woods all around me.
    A
Bifen IT is not permitted to use in a ULV or a thermal fogger.  Bifen IT is only permitted to be used in a hand pump or gas powdered sprayer with larger droplets.  Bifen IT can clog foggers. Only oil based fog solutions are usually advised to be used in a thermal fogger.  Our recommendation would by Pyrocide 100, which is a fogging solution that is great for mosquitoes and flying insects. Most fogging solutions do not leave a long residual and should be re-applied for optimum results.

    Q
What is a general insecticide I can spray that is pet friendly inside and out of house?
spiders water bugs all types of little bugs im in Houston they get in from leaving door open windows I don't know
    A
Bifen IT insecticide is comparable to the very popular Talstar, but is much less expensive. Bifen IT provides excellent control of over 75 insect pests, leaves a long-lasting residual for up to 3 months indoors and one moth outdoors, is odorless, non-staining, dries clear and is safe around children and pets when used as directed.  Bifen IT and the other bifenthrin products can be used both indoors and outdoors, on lawns and ornamentals, and even in the kitchen. Be sure to keep pets out of the treated area until it has a chance to fully dry. Once completely dry, Bifen IT is completely safe for your pets.
