Bifen IT can take several minutes or longer to kill a listed pest that contacts the treated surfaces. It is mixed at 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft monthly to the exterior areas and quarterly to the interior crevices. Eliminating springtails can take time. Springtails indicate that there is a moisture issue because they breed in walls or under slabs where a moisture issue may exist. Typically, pesticides alone will not take care of a springtail problem. It is required to fix whatever moisture issue is causing the problem. You should read our "How To Get Rid of Springtails" article for further information.
You can use Bifen IT as a preventative. You want to spray around the outside perimeter of your home 2-3 feet up and out. Also, indoors cracks and crevices. You can also put a few traps like the Beetle Bagger Japanese Beetle Trap - Kit around too. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Bifen IT will not kill voles or snakes and should not be applied directly to them as they are not targeted species. It should not harm snakes if they consume insects which contacted the insecticide. We do offer snake repellents and products for vole control. Bifen IT will only kill listed pests.
Bifen It should be applied and dried prior to rainfall within 24 hrs. Were the treated areas dry prior to the rain?
As long as both product labels are followed with the more restrictive one taking precedence, yes, Bifen IT can be tank mixed with herbicides.
Bifen IT can be used to kill clover mites and will leave a residual of up to 30 days outside. It will not repel them from the area but instead will continue to kill those that contact a treated surface after application. We have a guide here with more information on treating and preventing this pest.
Yes, Bifen IT can be used to treat cutworms. Per the product label: "Postpone irrigation or mowing for 24 hours after application to obtain the best possible control. Higher treatment rates (up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) may be necessary if high pest pressure exists and if the grass is maintained taller than 1 inch."
Bifen IT is mixed at the rate of 0.125-0.25 oz. per gallon of water for bagworms.
Bifen IT is labeled for outside only application for fleas. You will also need to mix in an IGR to break down the reproductive cycle. Bifen kills the adults that come in contact with it, but then you still have the immature fleas growing and then reproducing. It is a constant battle without the IGR. We recommend Nyguard as it will last up to 7 months. Nyguard Plus would be a great choice for indoor flea control. For the most effective control, vacuum before treating and then everyday for the next two weeks, being sure to change the bag or empty the cannister immediately after vacuuming. A second treatment should be applied after 14 days.
There is no valid reason to mix synthetic pyrethroids such as Bifen IT and Onslaught Fastcap together. This would not make either product work better or produce better results. However, it could make treated areas repellent to bugs, lessening the effectiveness of the treatment. Neither product can do its job of killing insects if the insects are avoiding the treated areas.
Bifen IT is not labeled for beneficial insects like butterflies. However, it is not really selective so it has the potential to kill them if they come in contact with a treated area. To avoid contacting beneficial insects, apply in the early morning or late evening when they are less active in the area.
Per the product label, Bifen IT should be applied a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.
Yes, Bifen IT can be broadcast across your lawn, sprayed on ornamentals, trees, shrubs and flowers. It should not be sprayed on edibles. You will use 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water.
It is safe for children and pets after the Bifen IT application is completely dry.
We would recommend using a product like Bifen IT. It is labeled for over 75 different pests. It is non-staining, odorless, and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Bifen IT is safe to apply inside along baseboards and in cracks and crevices around the home as directed on the product label.
Bifen IT is safe for ornamentals and for turf grasses, when used at the label rates. Apply at 1 oz per 1,000 sqft for most insects with a minimum of .5 gallons per 1,000 sqft.
Keep in mind that, when used as directed, Bifen IT is diluted at 1 oz. per gallon of water. This is only a large enough amount active ingredient to kill small insects. This small amount should not be harmful to your cat. Rule of thumb is to keep pets out of the treated area for about 1 hour to allow it to dry.
Bifen I/T woud not be recommended for controlling bedbugs at all.
