    Q
Can Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II be used for containerized plants?
I have a Belgian azalea that has spider mites. It is about 20" tall, including the pot, and the pot is 10" in diameter. How much should I use?
    A

Yes, Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II may be used on potted/container plants.  It would be applied at 1 2/3 Tbsp. for each five gallon container. Please keep in mind that a systemic product like this will not treat for spider mites. You need to use a foliar spray to treat for spider mites, such as Talstar P.

    05/16/2021
    Q
How much Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concent do I use to treat a Crepe Myrtle with multiple branches for a soil drench?
    Measure
    A

When using Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate on a tree with multiple trunks, measure each trunk circumference and then add the total of the trunks measurements to get the total trunk circumference for that tree. For example, if you have 6 inches of total circumference (not diameter) when you add up all the trunks, then you would use 6 oz of concentrate for that tree. Please review the product label for more information.

  • Asked by Lynn from Edwards, Illinois
    07/05/2021
    Q
I used Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub on my Rose of Sharon (hibiscus) for protection from Japanese beetles.
The leaves are turning yellow and dropping. This is an established shrub which has had no prior problems in past years. This is the only thing different I used. I mixed according to instructions in a tank sprayer. All other shrubs are thriving and doing fine that I used this same tank mixture on. Is this NOT to be used on this type shrub? I planted this shrub in memory of my mother (her name was Sharon) and very disappointed :(
    A

Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate does include ornamental shrubs on the product label.  However, this product states on the label directions that it is not to be sprayed, but to be measuring and pouring the required amount of product into a bucket of water, and to then pouring the solution around the shrub base.
You can also contact the manufacturer directly for clarification or troubleshooting by calling 1-877-229-3724 or by visiting their website's contact page here.

  • Asked by Andrea from Melissa Texas

    Q
Will the use of Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II cause the flowers of the plant to be toxic to honey bees?
We are getting hammered will bugs on our plants but I really don't want to use anything that will kill honey bees. We purchased the granule version to apply to crape myrtles. Will their flowers now be toxic to bees?
    A

The product label for Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate states the following, " Do not apply when bees are actively foraging in the area.  This product is highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment or residues on blooming crops or weeds.  Do not apply this product or allow to drift to blooming crops or weeds if bees are visiting the treatment area."

  • Asked by Donna from Tomball Texas

    Q
Will Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate kill my grass? Accidentally spilled in treatment area but then ran into the grass area?
    A

If it was a small amount of Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate, the turf should be fine. The product label does advise, “not for use on lawns” so we would recommend watering the area where the spill occured and continue to observe for possible signs of injury.

  • Asked by Ray from Houston, Tx

    Q
What is the best product to use for Red Oak Borers?
Would a base band application of a product be satisfactory?
    A

While you can do a soil drench with an imidacloprid product such as Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate, this treatment probably will not eradicate red oak borers which have already infested your trees. If trees are heavily infested, then they were probably already susceptible to the insects due to disease or other stress, and it is best to remove those trees. For prevention, you can use a pyrethrin spray such as Permethrin SFR in Spring and again later in the Summer to help prevent this pest from infesting other trees.

This article has more great information about the life cycle and habits of this challenging pest.

  • Asked by Jim from Santa Clarita, Ca
    08/04/2019
    Q
Can 12 Month Tree & Shrub Protect & Feed Dual-Action granules be used on fruit trees?
Because of severe borer infestation my nursery sold me on this product for peaches and apples, explained how to use it and not to eat fruit for a year. I removed all the fruit the first year of use. Borers are gone. Trees are now in their 2nd year since the first and only application. Is the fruit edible?
    A

Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II - Con is only labeled for use on non-bearing fruit and nut trees. Non-bearing fruits and nuts are plants that do not bear edible fruits and nuts for at least 12 months after application of pesticides.  So as long as it has been 12 months since the application you can harvest/consume fruit

    Q
What time of the year is best to use Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II?
    A

Please contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region for your target pest.  Generally it is pest to apply before the target pest is active in the area as it takes time to translocate throughout the plant.
