Herbicides are a lot different than other concentrated products and can be hard to understand at first. The application rate depends on the the type of turf you have and how quickly you apply the product. You will need to read the product label to determine the correct usage rate for your needs (you did not give us any information about the type of lawn, region or application program you will be using so we cannot give you exact rates). The amount of water used to apply Blindside Herbicide is not critical, but should be sufficient for uniform coverage of the target area. Calibrate by determining the volume of water required to treat 1,000 square feet. Use this calibration volume to determine the amount of water and Blindside needed to treat the target area (see the following calibration example). Note: Sprayer calibration (volume of spray needed to treat 1,000 square feet) will vary with each individual operator.
Steps in Calibration:
1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet or 25 by 40 feet).
2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in the spray tank.
3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage. Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.
The amount of Blindside per 1,000 sq ft:
Cool Season grasses: 0.075 - 0.15 per 1,000 sq. ft. (3.25 - 6.5 oz. per acre)
Warm Season grasses: 0.15 - 0.23 per 1,000 sq. ft. (6.5 - 10 oz. per acre)
Blindside Herbicide WDG would be a good option for control of dollarweed.
Yes, Blindside Herbicide WDG can be applied to established tall fescue safely if used as directed on the product label.
Blindside Herbicide WDG is applied at the following rate for Warm Season grasses: 0.15 - 0.23 per 1,000 sq. ft. (6.5 - 10 oz. per acre). There are 43,560 sq ft in an acre so one bottle would treat this size and your turf eight times.
Blindside Herbicide WDG is not specifically labeled for eradicating palm sprouts on mature trees. We recommend that you consult with your local cooperative extension office Master Gardener for options/product suggestions. If they recommend a product, please let us know and we can check with our suppliers for you on availability.
Blindside Herbicide WDG should be used or discarded within 24 hours of mixing.
Per the Blindside Herbicide WDG label: Blindside Herbicide has been found to be compatible with most herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and growth regulators commonly used in turf and ornamental plant management. However, when preparing a new tank mix conduct an appropriate compatibility test by mixing proportional amounts of all spray ingredients in a test vessel (jar) prior to tank mixing with other products. Shake mixture vigorously and allow it to stand for five to ten minutes. Rapid precipitations of the ingredients and failure to re-suspend when shaken indicates that the mixture is incompatible and should not be applied.
Blindside Herbicide WDG can be applied safely to established St. Augustine turf.
Blindside Herbicide WDG can be safely used on Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue. It could harm any others.
It is recommended to apply Blindside Herbicide WDG when temperatures are less than 80 degress. Discoloration may occur if applied in high temperatures and high relative humidity per the product label.
As long as there are not competing use instructions between the Prodiamine and Blindside WDG herbicide labels, then you could tank mix them for a single application. Keep in mind, though, that usually a pre- and post-emergent are not used at the same time as the timing for a pre-emergent to be put down is not a time of a year when temperatures would support full active weed growth. A post-emergent normally would not be used until later when temperatures were higher to get the best results, which would be past the temperature time frame that you could use a pre-emergent within and still be successful.
It is not recommended to use Blindside on a property with a well. According to the product label: The active ingredients in this product are known to leach through soil into groundwater under certain conditions as a result of label use. Use of this chemical in areas where soils are permeable, particularly where the water table is shallow, may result in groundwater contamination.
Two applications of Blindside Herbicide 21 days apart may increase control of weeds over a single application; however, do not exceed 10 oz. product per acre per year. Please review the product label for more information.
Blindside Herbicide WDG is not labeled for sandbur. Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide is a post emergent labeled for sandbur and is safe in certain warm and cool season grasses. Please check the product label to ensure it will be safe for your specific turfgrass. Dimension 2EW is a great pre-emergent labeled to treat sandbur and is labeled safe in most cool and warm season grasses. Please check the label for your specific turfgrass.
You should not mow 2 days before or 2 days after applying Blindside Herbicide WDG.
Blindside is labeled for dollarweed control and should do a good job. The rate for warm season grasses is 0.15 - 0.23 per 1,000 sq. ft. (6.5 - 10 oz. per acre).
In general, we would recommend killing the undesirable plants with BlindsideHerbicide WDG and then clearing out the dead plant debris before dethatching. You can learn more about these treatments in our Do My Own Lawncare Video Series, too. You can find them on the bottom of our Lawn Care Guides page here.
Per the Blindside Herbicide WDG label: Application to Zoysiagrass in spring transition may result in discoloration. If turf discoloration occurs after an application of Blindside Herbicide turfgrass will generally recover with new growth. Discolored leaf tissue will be removed with mowing.
Blindside Herbicide WDG is rainfast 24 hrs after the application has dried.
