  • Asked by Sara from Colfax
    10/15/2014
    Q
What ratio of water to product do I use to kill tea scale on camellias and what time of year is best to spray?
    A

Per your local cooperative extension office, they would highly recommend treating the camellias with a combination of horticultural oil (for a foliar application treating the undersides of the leaves) and a systemic control product that contains the active ingredient, Imidacloprid as a soil drench at the base to treat tea scale. For timing and specific application times in the year, we recommend contacting the Master Gardener in your county. You can find their contact information by clicking the link below.

    Q
I have bores at the base of my peach tree, can I spray captain jacks dead bug direct on the base of the tree,
and when can I do this. bob
    A
Unfortunately, Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew Concentrate is not labeled for use on Peach trees. We would highly recommend the Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor Broad Use Insecticide with 10% Permethrin Insecticide. Apply when Insects appear. Do not apply within 7 days of Harvest. Do not make more than 8 applications per Season.

  • Asked by David from Cypress, Texas
    06/13/2019
    Q
Will Bonide Systemic Insect Control take care of assassin bugs?
    A

Bonide Systemic Insect Control is not labeled for assassin bugs.  Bifen IT is a great product and should absolutely control the kissing/assassin bug and any other insects in the area. You will not normally find that pest listed on any label as its a very specific species that does not affect all areas so only the most common found pest that affect a larger population will normally be listed on product labels in the industry.

  • Asked by Jim from Seaford, N.y.

    Q
How soon can I reapply Bonide Systemic Insect Control on arborvitae?
    A

Reapplication times for Bonide Systemic Insect Control can vary depending on the target pest.  Per the product label: Spray when insects are present or when feeding injury is first noticed. For hard to kill insects, such as flower thrips, gladiolus thrips, mealybugs, scales, two-spotted spider mites, and whiteflies, spray 2 to 3 times, waiting 7 to 10 days between each application. Repeat if re-infestation occurs.

    Special instructions:

For Obscure Root Weevil (Adults): Spray foliage in late spring as soon as feeding is noticed (usually about April). Repeat every 4 weeks through September. (Mid-July through August are the peak feeding times.)

For Black Vine Weevil: Spray foliage and soil beneath plants. Begin applications in mid-June. Spray 4 times, waiting 3 weeks between each application.

  • Asked by Ted from Wood Rive
    05/28/2021
    Q
Can Bonide Systemic Insect Control be used on following types of plants?
Kalanchoe, Bryophyllum, Euphorbia, Pachypod, Alluaudia, Crown of Thorns, Aloes, and other Succulent plants and other common cacti. Most of these plants are from Madagascar.
    A

Bonide Systemic Insect Control is labeled for use on roses, flowers, ornamentals, shrubs and shade trees. While this may be safe for use on succulents and cacti, keep in mind that these plants generally have very slow metabolism and are grown in different soil media from more herbaceous plants. So you may not get good results trying to use a systemic product like these granules on succulents or cacti.  You can refer to page 5 on the product label at the list of over 100 plant varieties this product can be used on.  For plants not addressed on the label, you can contact Bonide directly for assistance at (315) 736-8231, or via their website's contact page here.
