    Q
After applying Bora-Care, can I sand and clearcoat without health issues to me? How long should I wait prior to sanding, woodworking and sealing with bar top coating?
I have the opportunity to receive a piece of cedar 3"thick and make a table. How ever it appears to have several small / deep holes around the edges of the table. I saw a couple gray Beatles on the ground by it.
    A

Wood should be sanded and treated with Bora-Care prior to staining, painting, sealing etc. Please wear protective gear included in our Professional Safety Kit when applying the product. You should wait a few days after application has dried. This will allow the product to soak through the entire piece of wood. Do not wait longer than six weeks to re-sand/stain/seal.

    Q
Do I need to spray both sides of boards using Bora-Care if they are only 1 inch thick?
I just put board and batten siding on an outdoor shed. These boards were cut from green logs and put directly on the shed. Since the boards are only an inch thick, and Boracare penetrates more than that, is there really any need to spray it on both sides of the boards?
    A

If you can treat all sides of the wood when applying Boracare, that is best. However, if you can only access one side, then it would still be recommended to apply two coats of Boracare at least 20 minutes apart. If the wood is still very fresh, then it is best to let it cure for at least a few days before applying Boracare.

Keep in mind that for prevention you can dilute Boracare at the 5:1 ratio with water, per the product label.

    Q
Will Bora-Care hurt my cat if she gets into the attic after I spray and it dries?
Will it hurt birds if I spray the trees. I have beetles and ants in the trees. I have seen the ants trying to get into the attic. Is this as simple as spraying the wood or is there more
    A

Pets and people need to be kept out of the area while Boracare is being applied. Once the product dries completely, it is safe for them to return. Boracare is not labeled for use on trees. We would recommend using a general insecticide, such as Suspend SC, on your trees for ants. This can be used every 30 days as needed.

    Q
I applied Bora-Care to exposed structural beams and now the wood looks darker. Is this normal?
I sprayed with Bora-Care and it looks like the beams are darker in tint. They also have a sticky film on them. Will I be able to apply linseed oil?
    A

Wood treated with Bora-Care will appear darker than normal for a few days until the chemical dries.  Typically it only takes 24 - 48 hours for the product to dry and not be sticky.  If it is not drying within this time frame, it usually means that too much of the product was applied to the wood.  You could lightly sand the wood to remove the stickiness and then apply your finishing oil.

    Q
What can I foam with Bora-Care that will kill an active infestation of drywood termites on contact?
I will be foaming my wall voids with Bora-Care, and I would like to add a non- repellent termiticide that will kill on contact to quickly kill an active infestation of drywood termites around my window frames. Any suggestions? Also, I do have roaches and carpenter ants that live within the walls of the house...is there a non repellent treatment that would work for all these pests that can be effectively mixed with Bora- Care as a foam?
    A
Bora-Care alone will kill the dry wood termites very effectively.  Non-repellents do not kill on contact.  They have a delay kill which is what you want for termites.  Bora-Care will kill termites much faster than a non-repellent product which can take up to 90 days to kill the termite colony.  We suggest just using Bora-Care since it is the #1 treatment on the market for dry wood termites.

    Q
Once I treat with Boracare, how will I know if the termites are gone?
    A

You can tap wood along the walls, baseboards and windowsills every few inches with a screwdriver handle. Damaged wood will sound hollow and, if the area is extremely damaged, the handle may break the wood's surface. If the area is active, you may see worker termites inside. Bora-Care will take up to 30 days or more to penetrate all the way through the wood and eliminate a drywood termite colony in the wood.

    Q
Why didn't Bora-Care soak into my new OSB floor?
I recently treated a floor with Bora-Care. The floor was standard, new, untreated OSB flooring (no stains). I applied Bora-Care with a sprayer at a 1:1 ratio; Bora-Care/hot water were well-mixed in a separate container, not in the sprayer. The temperature of the air around the floor at the time of treatment was 50-55 degrees F, and it did not freeze for several days after that. Now, several days after treatment, there are small syrup-like "puddles" of Bora-Care in different places across the floor that did not seem to soak into the OSB. The puddles are still liquid. Any idea how I can fix the puddling problem so that the floor dries like it should?
    A
We have not heard of this issue before. Therefore, we would recommend that you contact the manufacturer, Nisus for further assistance. Nisus may be reached at 800-264-0870.

    Q
How long do I need to wait to sand and oil base polyurethane a 2.5
    A

It is recommended to wait until the application of Bora-Care has completely dried throughout the treated wood before sanding or applying any type of paint, stain or sealant. Depending on the humidity or moisture in the wood, this can take 24-48 hours to dry. For best results, applying a stain, paint or sealant should be done within 30 days of the Bora-Care application.

    Q
I'm making a mantel from an old beam and want to treat with Bora-care. How long to kill beetles?
The beam is very solid, but does have some pin holes that look like powder-post beatles. I can't tell how old these holes are.
    A
Bora-Care will take up to 30 days or more to penetrate all the way through the wood.  It will only kill active beetles that are eating.  If there are dormant beetles that are not active, but become active later, let's say next year, you could see new activity at that time, but they will die once they start eating since Bora-Care stays in the wood forever.  It is common to see activity at a later date since beetles are not all active at the same time.

    Q
Is there a temperature requirement for treating with Boracare?
I am treating the interior of a barn for powder post beetles. I know the product should not be stored in freezing temperatures but can the product be applied if the temperature is below freezing? Will it interfere with absorption?
    A
You really want to avoid applying any product in below freezing temperatures because the water part of the mixture can separate and freeze. Do try to apply on a day where the temperatures are above freezing.
