    Q
Can I use Bora Care on wood treated with copper napthenate?
    A

After checking with the manufacturer, it is fine to use Bora-Care on wood treated with copper napthenate for added protection.  After treating with Bora-Care, you should allow the product to dry thoroughly and then paint or stain to lock the product in.

    Q
How can I use Boracare to treat plywood cabinets covered with plastic laminate?
    A

Bora-Care is labeled to be used on wood in it’s natural, raw state.  The product will not penetrate the plastic laminate.  The wood would need to be stripped down to it’s natural, raw state to be treated with Bora Care.

    Q
Would pressure washing remove Bora-Care from my cedar fence?
Also, how long does this have to be allowed to dry before staining? If I just apply to one side is that sufficient?
    A

Bora-Care penetrates up to 4 inches into the wood. Pressure washing will not remove it. We recommend to wait about 72 hours after applying Bora-Care before doing anything else to the wood.  It is recommended to apply to all sides of the wood you are treating.

    Q
I forgot and left the Boracare in the shed during three days of a hard freeze. Is it now inaffective?
    A

Yes, allowing Boracare to freeze can make it ineffective.  It should be stored in a controlled temperature area out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. You also want to avoid applying any product in below freezing temperatures because the water part of the mixture can sparate and freeze.

  • Asked by Corey from Pierson, Mi
    08/01/2018
    Q
Would Bora-Care work on a log that will remain outside in the weather?
    A

Yes! You can use Bora-Care for application on a log and it will protect this log against any future damage. We advise that since it is outside, you should seal the log after applying Bora-Care.  This will allow the product to last longer outside.  If an exterior piece of wood is exposed to weather over the years, water can force the Bora-Care out if it is not properly sealed.

  • Asked by Steven from Hillsville Va
    08/24/2018
    Q
Is there a bug bomb I can use in an empty house for powder post beetles?
    A

Powder post beetles live inside wood and can remain dormant inside wood for up to 30 years.  Foggers will be unable to penetrate the wood to contact the beetles, and it certainly won’t give any sort of long term residual to product your wood when they beetles come out of their dormant stage. Bora-Care is the best product for powder post beetles.  It is sprayed/painted on raw untreated wood.  It will soak through to the center of the wood and protect the wood for the lifetime of the wood.

  • Asked by Ian from Bermuda

    Q
Can you burn firewood that has been treated with Bora-care?
    A

We do not recommend applying Bora-Care to firewood. Burning wood treated with any insecticide would release the active ingredients into the air. Burning the wood without treating with any chemical will kill anything in it.

  • Asked by Mark from Portland, Oregon
    02/11/2019
    Q
What volume of Bora-Care is recommended to inject into rotten wood?
I will be injecting Bora-Care into rotten wood using 1/4in diameter x 5in deep holes. How much Bora-Care should I add in each hole? The rotten wood is the floor joists in a cabin in a wet forest. I cannot see the wood I am injecting into.
    A

If you are needing to spot treat wood with a borate product, then it would be better to use the ready-to-use formulation of Boracare called Jecta. Jecta is a gel-like product in a tube that does not require mixing. Keep in mind that if the integrity of the wood you are treating is already compromised, then a borate product will not recover the wood or make up for lost integrity of the wood. If you have wood that is compromised, then it is best to replace the wood after correcting the moisture issue.

  • Asked by Brandon from Daytona Beach, Fl
    08/20/2019
    Q
I am treating a newly constructed residential home with Bora-Care. My question is: If there are 2 x 8 studs throughout the home how much more Boracare would I use? I am using a 1 to 1 ratio.
    A

For prevention Bora-Care would be applied at the 5:1 ratio.  There is a chart here that can help determine how much is needed.  For 2x8 a 1:1 ratio will cover 308 lineal feet so at the 5:1 it would be 5 times that.  For new homes you typically only apply 2 feet up from ground.
