I have board n batten pine siding I'm going to clean it with bleach
    A

You want the siding to be dry when you are applying Boracare per the label. It needs to be able to soak in to the dry wood.

    Q
After applying Bora-Care will the beetles leave for another piece of raw untreated wood?
    A

As the beetles emerge from the wood after it has been treated with Boracare they will die from ingesting the treating wood so there would be no worry of reinfestation.

    Q
How do we get rid of termites in a termite infested couch?
    A

For furniture your options are limited for treatment. If the wood is in its all natural raw state without any stains or finishes on it you can use a product like Boracare. Boracare will absorb all the way into the wood and eliminate any infestation that is there and last for the life of the wood. It does not stain the wood or leave behind any visible residue, but becomes one with the wood and any insect that ingests it dies. If the furniture has a finish on it, you would either have to drill holes throughout it and inject something like the Boracare or a foam, or the option most go with, hire a company to fumigate it

    Q
Can you use Boracare as a perimeter treatment?
Would Boracare work as a perimeter treatment on concrete foundation and weep holes in the brick where trenching is not an option?
    A

Unfortunately, Boracare is not labeled to be used as a perimeter treatment on concrete. It is lableled to be used on cellulosic materials including wood, plywood, particle board, oriented strand board, cardboard, and wood composite structural componets only.

    Q
Does Boracare affect other penetrating applications such as stains or sealers?
I have dry rot that I am repairing. Would like to treat it with Boracare first then treat it with an epoxy sealer before using an epoxy filler to fill the void. Or can I mix the Baracare with the epoxy sealer?
    A

You should apply Boracare to raw wood. You can then apply any stain, sealant, or paint after the Boracare application has dried, usually 24-48 hours.

  • Asked by Cynthia from Los Angeles, Ca

    Q
How long do I wait to put new wood siding on after spraying BORACARE in the wall?
Should mold be a concern? I have a contractor doing a job to replace the siding and its only a one day job. Wondering how many hours i should wait, or if mold would be an issue if it were still damp when I close it up.
    A

BORACARE can take up to 72 hours to dry. We would recommend to try and wait longer than 24 hours to seal up the wall. This will allow for the product to better soak into the wood. Since Boracare alone does not treat for mold if you seal up moisture, mold could be a concern.

    Will Boracare kill spiders?
I have a brown recluse infestation. Im going to spray crawl space with boracare with mold care. Will this help any with the spiders?
    A

No, Boracare will not kill spiders or any other crawling pests except those that would chew on treated wood. We would suggest using Delta Dust in the crawl space for spiders.

    Q
Can I apply ruberized flashing after apply Boarcare instead of a stain or sealer?
I need to attach an existing dry rot problem on an upper deck. It is redwood, but near the Pacific Ocean. I'd like to apply the Bora-care in a 1-to-1 solution, then apply the ruberized flashing (i.e. "Deck Flash") to the joists and wherever else I can apply it. Can I apply the flashing instead of a stain? How long after applying the bora-care should I wait before applying the flashing. It is sticky-back, line an adhesive tape. Thanks in advance
    A

Yes, you can apply the rubberized flashing after application of BORACARE. Be sure to wait 72 hours to make the application. This will give Boracare enough time to penetrate into the wood and dry.

    Q
Can I use BORACARE on top of CONCROBIUM?
We sprayed Concrobium a while ago after a mold clean-up, but a faint smell seems to be coming back. Can I use BoraCare on top of Concrobium?
    A

There is no reason why BORACARE would not work when applied over Concrobium. We always recommend to take care of the mold first then treat with Boracare.

  • Asked by Brian from Gisborne New Zealand
    07/17/2016
    Q
Can I apply undiluted Boracare on to finished timber?
The timber is kiln dried and I don't want to increase the moisture content.
    A

BORACARE must be applied in a diluted fashion with water to work correctly and absorb into the wood. Boracare and the glycols it contains are designed to replace the natural moisture content of the wood so it bonds and last long term in the piece of timber you are trying to protect. Nisus, the manufacturer of Boracare, states that Boracare can be applied to kiln dried wood or prior to being placed in a kiln.

    Q
Does Boracare leave a shiny/glossy kind of residue?
I used Boracare underneath my foyer. Mixed 1:1 of water:Boracare with drill for 5 to 10 minutes in warm to hot water. Used right away. Some spots have a shiny or glossy look to the wood and I just want to make sure this is normal and it seeped into the wood.
    A

Boracare should not leave any kind of visible residue once it has dried.  If you are seeing spots that look shiny, this is usually because these areas have not yet fully dried.  In most cases, it takes 24-48 hours for a Boracare application to dry thoroughly.

    Q
Should I kill termites in my privacy fence before before removing fencing?
I've discovered a large infestation of termites in my privacy fencing (posts and slates) while assessing for repair. The fence is very old and in bad shape at this point and, especially with the termite discovery, I am just going to replace vs. trying to repair. However, would it be a bad idea to simply dismantle and haul away the fencing with the infestation, or should I try to eliminate the termites in the wood before disturbing the fencing? The fencing is close to my house, so I'm a bit concerned.
    A

If you plan on using pressure treated wood there's no need to treat the area or the wood but we would recommend doing a preventative treatment around your house. If the wood is not pressure treated then we would recommend to treat the private fence. You can do two things, the most recommended treatment would be to treat the new wood panels with Boracare, once dry you will need to stain the panels afterwards prior to putting them in place and using metal posts when putting your new private fence up. The second method is to do a trench treatment with Termidor around the fence, since it is considered a "structure". We don't recommend doing the treatment before you remove the old fence because the removal will disturb the treated areas.

    Q
    Will Boracare kill roaches?
    A

Boracare is not labeled for roaches.  It would be best to use products that are specifically labeled for them, such as the ones that are found in our roach control kits.

    Q
Will the Boracare that I used previously take care of the powderpost beetles in my barn now?
I previously applied one of your products approx. 1 yr ago and some beetles are still present. I don't remember the product name at this time. Where do I go from here? I have powderpost beetles in my barn. What product should i use.
    A

It was Boracare that you purchased before, and provided that you used that correctly when applying and sealed it within 90 days of applications it will take care of the powderpost beetles that are present now. They have to feed on the wood in order to ingest the Boracare at this time to kill them.

    Q
Is there any chance of the Lumber (Walnut and Cherry) being damaged or stained with Boracare?
    A

No, Boracare soaks into the wood itself, and would be a clear product so there would be no staining involved. This product is designed to be used on all types of wood as well so it would not damage the wood as long at it was applied when the wood was in the raw state with no stains, paints, or finishes.

    Q
Can I use Bora-Care to treat my tiki hut?
Just bought a tiki hut here in South Florida. Notice some Brown leaves on the ground. Apon looking at the ends of these leaves I see chew marks. I see on the furniture small white power. Will the Bor-Care product work? And do I spay under the hut as well as on top? Finally, what about the rain and the application of the spray. Will I need to respray?
    A

Boracare can be used as long as the tiki hut is not over water and the wood is not sealed or stained. The ratio that you will use the product at the 1:1 ratio. You will need to inject the product into the kickout holes and then topically spray. You will need to spray all the wood. Be sure to seal the wood on the tiki hut once the product has dried completely.

    Q
    Will freezing make Boracare ineffective?
    A

Yes, allowing Boracare to freeze can make it ineffective.  It should be stored in a controlled temperature area out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. You also want to avoid applying any product in below freezing temperatures because the water part of the mixture can separate and freeze

You really want to avoid applying any product in below freezing temperatures because the water part of the mixture can separate and freeze.
