I got a little overspray on some exterior porous flagstone. I'm pretty sure the lightening effect is only temporary?

    Q
Will placing a cabinet in a freezer kill termites? If so, how long would the cabinet need to be frozen?
    A

We apologize, but we are not aware of any natural methods, such as freezing, that will kill termites. We recommend either using Boracare on the cabinet if there is no finish or paint on it or using Jecta directly in the kickback holes from the termites.

  • Asked by Bob from Moorpark, Ca

    Q
Can I mix Bora-Care with Termidor SC for a single application, if not, how would you apply for an infestation?
    A

No, you would not mix Bora-Care with Termidor SC for a single application.  Bora-Care is a wood treatment product that is great for drywood termites.  Termidor SC  is made to adhere to soil and is poured in a 6-inch deep trench that is dug around the foundation of the home.  So depending on which type of termite you have will determine which product would be best for you.

    Q
How can i tell if Bora-Care has been applied to my crawlspace?
I am purchasing a house. The owners were supposed to have it treated for powder post beetles and termites. I am not sure that they have.
    A

Unless a dye was added to the Bora-Care at the time of application, you would not be able to tell if the wood in your crawlspace has been treated or not.

    Q
Can Bifen XTS be blended with Dominion 2L for drywood termites?
    A

Bifen XTS and Dominion 2L should not be mixed for any termite treatments. Neither of these products are a wood treatment product. We do carry Bora-Care for treating wood surfaces. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Drywood Termites for more information on a successful eradication.

  • Asked by Ken from Los Angeles, Ca
    03/18/2017
    Q
I have a wooden door that I am repairing. Should I use Boracare, Termidor SC, or Adonis WP to treat it?
I have the interior of the door exposed and I want to treat for drywood termites. Which product will be the longest lasting and the best? I have all three.
    A

If the raw wood of the door is exposed, then Boracare is definitely the product you want to use. Mix it at a 5:1 ratio for termite prevention or a 1:1 ratio for an active infestation and spray as many sides of the wood that you can get to. Boracare will soak into the wood and last for the life of the wood to protect it from wood destroying insects and fungus.

  • Asked by Dennis from Gig Harbor

    Q
Will Bora-Care work for carpenter ants?
    A

Boracare should only be used to prevent carpenter ants. We do not recommend using it to treat and active infestation. You can treat and active infestation by using something like Carpenter Ant Bait or by treating directly with a product like Phantom Aerosol or Termidor Foam.

  • Asked by James from Fort Worth, Tx

    Q
Will Bora-Care hurt my cat if she gets into the attic after I spray and it dries?
Will it hurt birds if I spray the trees. I have beetles and ants in the trees. I have seen the ants trying to get into the attic. Is this as simple as spraying the wood or is there more
    A

Pets and people need to be kept out of the area while Boracare is being applied. Once the product dries completely, it is safe for them to return. Boracare is not labeled for use on trees. We would recommend using a general insecticide, such as Suspend SC, on your trees for ants. This can be used every 30 days as needed.

    Q
I sprayed Tim-Bor in my attic last year. Can I spray Bora-Care there now?
    A

Yes, you can treat the same wood with the Bora-Care.  The previous application of Timbor will have no affect on the absorption. Both products are borate-based and become one with the wood after application.

    Q
Would you recommend using Bora-Care on a log cabin or will it hurt the finish?
    A

Bora-Care can be applied to log cabins or other wood surfaces that are in its natural form without a finish, varnish, sealant, paint or stain. Otherwise the solution will not penetrate into the wood to target the listed pests.

  • Asked by Don from Pittsburgh, Pa

    Q
Can Bora-care be used in a bath type application?
Replacing T & G Douglas fir exterior porch floor which is under roof. Would like to submerge each board 1 week prior to install. Is this the best way to treat all surfaces?
    A

Boracare is a very viscous liquid that needs to be thoroughly mixed with warm -hot water and thinned out before application. The label states that it can be applied by sprayer or by painting or rolling the product on but we are not sure that submerging the wood in the solution will be a proper application as it should only be applied until wet and not to the point of run off or oversaturation.

  • Asked by Kathy from Llano, Tx
    04/16/2017
    Q
How long will it take for BoraCare applied at 1:1 ratio to kill beetles?
Have powderpost beetles in a small piece of furniture - wood less than 1" thick. Could I put the piece in a tightly closed plastic bag to help speed the result?
    A

Powderpost beetles can lay dormant for years in the wood and Boracare will not kill them until they are actively feeding.  Even after applying a product like Boracare to all sides of the infested raw wood (ideal situation) you can often still see signs of activity of the powder post beetles for a few years after treatment. This is because the product works through ingestion so as the larvae emerge from the wood (which is whenever they are good and ready) they eat the wood on their way out and ingest it and die. No new adults will be able to leave them in any holes in the wood as again, once they ingest it they will die.

Placing treated wood in a sealed bag will not increase the speed at which this happens.  If it is just one piece of furniture that is infested and you want a quicker kill, you can also contact local furniture finishers or pest control operators who may offer a heat chamber. Heating the furniture up to over 140 degrees for several hours will any pest that is inside where dormant or not.

  • Asked by Tray
    04/27/2017
    Q
Will Bermuda grass come back if Bora-Care was accidentally applied to it at the diluted rate?
    A

Bora-Care is an insecticide used for treating wood boring insects and is meant to be applied to raw wood.  It is not labeled for use on turf grass.  If Bora-Care was accidentally applied to your lawn it will most likely kill it.  Borate, Boracare's active ingredient, kills plant life, including grass, trees and shrubs.
