    Q
Can Bora-Care be sprayed in an airless 900 sq attic?
If I spray bora care 1:1 ratio in about 900 sq airless attic, will it create problems like mold, mildew, fungus? The attic is 3 feet high and has 4 vents of about 4" x 16" with 2 at each sides at attic floor. If there are dust on the studs &joists, by how much the bora care absorption is reduced? Even if it is reduced, would spraying be better than nothing? Thank you very much.
    A

Bora-Care can be sprayed in a non-ventilated area but we do recommend wearing a respirator mask in that case.If there is a humidity issue already, we recommend fixing that problem first with a Dehumidifier if the situation calls for one. If there is a risk of mold, you can treat first with Bora-Care, at a 1:1 ratio, and after at least 48 hours you can treat with Bora-Care with Mold-Care, at a 5:1 ratio, to treat or prevent mold.

    Q
Before install, I treated 3/4 plywood subfloor on bottom side with Bora-Care
Now that plywood is installed on treated joists, Is it necessary to treat top side as well?
    A

Bora-Care will only penetrate through the wood that it is applied to.  So if you have other wood placed on top of already treated wood you would need to treat that as well.

    Q
Will it work on carpenter bees
    A
Bora-care is more food wood destroying pests that ingest the wood rather than just tear at it like carpenter bees do. While some carpenter bees may die from ingesting some of the Boracare particles if its already been applied to raw wood they are drilling into, it would not be considered the best option for them. You can review our Carpenter Bee Control Guide to see the best tips and products used for eliminating and preventing carpenter bees throughout the season.

    Q
I have a slab of soft wood. I need to treat (has bugs) how long until I can handle after using Bora-Care? Make cuts, plane, sand etc.
    A

When using Bora-care for raw wood applications, you can handle the wood for cutting and turning it into whatever you intend it to be once the wood has dried. This can often take anywhere from just a few hours, to a couple of days, based on how heavy you applied it, and how thick the wood was to provide time for full absorption.

I have a log home and am thinking Bora-Care might solve insect problems. The logs are stained can I use this?
    A

Bora-Care can only be applied to raw wood that has not been painted, stained or sealed.  You would need to sand the wood down to the original raw state before applying.

    Q
Can Bora-Care be used on driftwood?
I have a bunch of pieces of driftwood in various sizes (size of my palm up to my husband lugging it back from the beach). Can I use Bora-Care to treat it all? I was thinking of making up a bucket of the mixture and dipping the pieces that I can fit, into it. I am planning to dip the ends of the larger pieces and spraying the parts I can't dip. Is this the best way to go about treating the driftwood?
    A

Yes, you can use Boracare to treat for insects on the wood once it has dried. You can spray, paint, roll, or spray the product onto the wood.  It will penetrate about an inch into each side of the wood make sure you are treating all 4 sides.

Yes, you can use warm soapy water to clean the runoff from the concrete. Bora-Care will not stain or absorb into the concrete.

    Q
Will Bora-Care kill peach tree borers and shot hole borers?
    A

Bora-Care is not labeled for use to target borers on plants or trees, and it only intended to be used on cellulosic materials including wood, plywood, particle board, paper, oriented strand board (OSB), cardboard, and wood composite structural components.  You may consider using Tenguard SFR Termiticide which is labeled for use on on fruit and nut trees around residential sites to target Peachtree Borers, but we would recommend reaching out to your local cooperative extension office for recommendations on products to target Shot Hole Borers.

    Q
Can Bora-Care be used on logs with bark still on?
I need to spray Bora-Care on the sleepers in my 1870 barn. Most of the beams still have their bark on. Moisture content is quite low on most. Will the Bora-Care penetrate through the bark and into the wood? As well most of the sleepers are larger than 8-10
    A

Bora-Care will not penetrate through logs that still have bark on them. The bark will need to be removed from each log for an effective application. If the sleepers are 8-10" in diameter, this will require 2 full applications. The second application will need to be applied once the first application has dried.

    Q
Will Bore-Care go through wood down to the joists?
I have no sub-floor. I have over 100 year-old 1-inch thick pine floorboards installed directly onto joists. If I sand the floors and apply Bora-Care to them, would Bora-Care effectively penetrate into the joists to protect them as well? Is there anything I can do to make penetration more effective?
    A

Since you are wanting the joists to be treated as well, we recommend spraying the Boracare directly onto them as it will not soak through the floorboards into the joists. Boracare may take time to get throughthe floorboards since the wood is very old and would not have much moisture remaining in them. The best way to be sure the Boracare penetrates correctly would be to treat on all sides and get a full coverage spray.

Why does glue not adhere after Bora-Care treatment?
I have treated powder post beetles in oak and am now in process of building furniture with it, but where there are areas that were sprayed the glue just rolls up. Do I need to sand it before gluing?
    A

Yes, if the glue is not holding with the Bora-Care on the surface we recommended sanding before applying the glue.

    Q
Do I need to spray both sides of boards using Bora-Care if they are only 1 inch thick?
I just put board and batten siding on an outdoor shed. These boards were cut from green logs and put directly on the shed. Since the boards are only an inch thick, and Boracare penetrates more than that, is there really any need to spray it on both sides of the boards?
    A

If you can treat all sides of the wood when applying Boracare, that is best. However, if you can only access one side, then it would still be recommended to apply two coats of Boracare at least 20 minutes apart. If the wood is still very fresh, then it is best to let it cure for at least a few days before applying Boracare.

Keep in mind that for prevention you can dilute Boracare at the 5:1 ratio with water, per the product label.

    Q
Why can Bora-Care be applied to pressure treated wood, but Bora-Care w/ Mold-Care cannot?
    A

According to the manufacturer, both, Bora-Care and Bora-Care with Mold-Care can be applied to pressure treated wood, but because Bora-Care with Mold-Care uses the 5:1 ratio it will take much longer for the product to absorb into the wood.

    Q
Nozzle recommendations and best practices when applying Bora-Care in cold weather
Hi there, Question 1: I will be spraying Bora Care on round logs the literature mentions a medium to coarse fan spray at 30-40psi Can you please elaborate? What is the best nozzle angle for logs? 90
    A

In general, the questions you are asking are a bit of an overthink on how to use this product. Boracare can be sprayed, painted/brushed, or rolled onto wood and should be done so in a way that the wood surface is wet but not dripping the product off. The angle of spray, nozzle pattern, droplet size, and distance make no difference. If you will be applying in freezing temperatures its best to hold off on the Boracare application as the cold could inhibit it from penetrating into the wood fully and correctly. Ideally you would need the air temperatures and wood to not be frozen even if the Boracare solution itself is warm. If you have any additional questions about the application of the Boracare you can always call Nisus directly at 800-264-0870.

We strongly recommend referring to Table A, Table B & Table C on the actual product label for Bora Care to calculate how many gallons you'll need based on your specific application purposes.  You may also contact the manufacturer directly with specific product application questions at 1-800-264-0870 or via their website's contact page here.  Please let us know if we can further assist with general product information or placing an order, as we are a distributor of this product.
