    Planning to use BoraCare with MoldCare on our pine logs. Will this inhibit stain absorption?

    Can I apply Bora-Care in the sun or is sundown better?
    Best time to apply it to redwood deck? In full sun or better not sunny?

    Wood just needs to be dry before applying Bora-Care. There is no specifics on the time of day it should be applied. As long as you are not expecting rain in the next 48 hours.  It can take up to 48 hours for it to dry after application.  It should dry clear when mixed as directed and would not affect stain once dry.

    I have barn beams that have small holes. Will Bora-Care work to kill any potential beetles?
    A

    Yes, Bora-Care would be applied at a 1:1 ratio to the areas where you have activity. The 1:1 ratio is for curative treatments, for preventative you would apply at a 3:1 or 5:1 ratio. 

    Please review page 5 and page 10 on the product label for dimensional lumber information. 2 coats may be needed to ensure the Boracare absorbs all the way through the beam.

    Does Bora-Care affect epoxy bonding?
    I have some minor wood rot in a porch floor beam. I plan to chisel out the rot, apply Boracare to the beam, and insert a dutchman secured with Advance Research Technology (ART) epoxy. Will the Boracare adversely affect the bonding of the epoxy?

    No, Bora-Care would not affect epoxy bonding to the wood beam as long as the Bora-Care application has had enough time to completely dry. This usually takes 24-48 hours.

    Does Bora Care with Mold Care also kill mycotoxins?
    When spraying toxic mold with Bora Care with Mold Care will it also destroy mycotoxins or will black mold release mycotoxins after treatment with Bora?

    We spoke with the manufacturer and  were advised that yes, Boracare will also breakdown any  mycotoxins associated with mold. Please see the label for complete application instructions.

    Can I use a paint sprayer to apply Bora-Care or a pesticide truck mounted tank sprayer to apply?
    I have both types of equipment, but want a faster way to install 2 coats of product in a very close quarter crawl space. Was considering using my truck mounted sprayer but I use it Talstar as an everyday chemical on house treatments. I didn't know if that pesticide would effect the final result of bora care or if a paint sprayer would work as a application technique

    Bora-Care should be applied by a hand pump sprayer or painted on as suggested on the label.  Bora-Care is a very thick product and when applied through fine nozzles like a mister or a paint sprayer, it has been known to clog the nozzles on these sprayers.  It is meant to be applied through larger openings in hand pump sprayers or painted on.

    We sprayed our logs before building the barn with Bora-Care.
    We are ready to build 2 years later. Should we treat again? We transported logs and have mold on areas, that were covered with a small patch of carpet to prevent rub marks, that are molding. We do see mold in other areas as well. We have bleqched the wood and pressure washed it it. Logs are set. Should wemtreat with boracare again?
    A

    If the wood that was treated with Boracare was kept out of the outdoor elements so that rain couldn't wash through the wood, and pull some of the Boracare treatment from it, then you would not need to treat the wood again. Mold is a surface issue caused by excess moisture in the surrounding environment. If the mold on the surface has been removed and cleaned, and the environment you plan to use it within will have the wood either protected from moisture or will be sealed after building, you wouldn't need to worry about mold unless a new moisture issue arises. If you feel mold may become an issue again in the future, you may want to use the Boracare with Mold Care to treat the logs with to help prevent against mold in the future, as well as reinforce the original barrier you may have applied with the Boracare 2 years ago.

    I'm having my log cabin stained with a water base stain. Can I add bora care, and what ratio?
    Want to protect against carpenter bees and powderpost beetles.

    Boracare should not be mixed with the stain. Boracare needs to be applied to bare wood and allowed to dry completely before applying the stain. The product label recommends a 1:1 ratio for preventing powder post beetles in logs. Please note that Boracare is not specifically labeled for carpenter bees and has not been tested for this pest.

    I have borers in unsealed 3/8
    Have chaff coming from holes. Treating 1000 sq feet. Treatments were 2 months apart. Still have beetles. Ugh.

    Powderpost Beetles are a pest that can often cause residual damage long after you have treated. The Boracare application you would have completed on the wood would be correct for treating and protecting the raw wood surfaces and having it absorb into the wood. Since powderpost beetles lay their eggs inside the wood and the eggs could lay dormant for up to 30 years, you may see random signs of the pest anywhere in the time frame that you have the wood. Boracare will keep any new beetles from boring into the wood and kill them through ingestion of the wood if they try, and it will kill any beetles/larvae within the wood that try to eat their way through it or out of it. Boracare works through ingestion, so wood destroying pests would have to ingest the wood to get the product in their system to die from it. This means that any signs you are seeing now are beetles that are eating their way out of the wood and ingesting the Boracare and dying from it. Since there isnt a way to know how many eggs were left in the wood there isnt a way to know how long or how often you may see these signs pop up.

    We recommend waiting at least 3 days before sealing/painting/staining (but no longer than 6 weeks) after applying Boracare.

    Can Bora-Care be used to treat stumps to prevent termites and carpenter ants?
    How would I use this product to treat stumps to prevent and kill termites and carpenter ants
    A

    Bora-Care can only be used on cut lumber/wood not any actual plant/tree.  We would recommend to use Dominion 2L which can be applied directly where they are infesting in the stump and around/on the stump for carpenter ants.     Can I mix Boracare with a waterproofing solution to treat a canvas cover?
    I currently have Star Brite Waterproofing and would like to mix this with the Boracare 1:1 Will this still provide efficacy for both products?

    We do not advise to mix any waterproofing product, paint or sealant in the same tank mixture when applying BoraCare. A topcoat with a water-resistant finish such as paint, stain or water sealant is recommended within 6 weeks of the initial BoraCare application for longer performance. This can be done as soon as 48 hrs after the application provided the wood is compltely dry. 

    BoraCare is applied at 1:1 ratio for curative treatments and a 5:1 ratio for prevenative treatements.

    How long does it take an application of BoraCare to dry if applied with a sprayer to barn boards?
    A

    The dry time for Boracare is entirely dependent on how heavy you sprayed, the mix rate you used, and how quickly the raw wood you treated can absorb the product. This can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

    Can BoraCare be used to treat foundation holes and pouring the mixed solution into the holes around the foundation?
    I have a termite problem with a dead tree close to my house, started see termites in walls.
    A

    Bora-Care can only be used on raw, untreated, unpainted wood for curative and preventative treatments against termites and other wood destroying insects. It has no efficacy or ability to treat termites in the soil.

    If termite activity has been seen in the home, you will want to treat by doing Termite Trench Treatment directly against the foundation of the home using Taurus SC. Taurus SC can eradicate an exisiting termite colony within 90 days and provide a 10 year barrier protection against future termites when done correctly.

    Should Bora-Care be applied to the front and back of a new barnwood wall or just one side of the wall?

    For best results, it is recommended to treat all accessble sides of the wood with the Bora-Care solution to ensure the solution absorbs completely through the wood.

    My garden trellis is made of unfinished red cedar and supports a 30 plus year old rose. Working around the rose, I applied Bora Care by brush and roller to most of the wood, which is infested with termites, but am unable to paint or seal the because the rose partially covers the wood. Should I reapply Bora Care periodically, and if so, how often?

    If you are treating wood with Bora-Care that is exposed to rainfall and that cannot be sealed, then yes, you likely will want to reapply the Bora-Care every 3-5 years as needed.

    What is the shelf life of Bora-Care?

    The shelf life of Bora-Care is 3 years if stored in a cool dry area out of any sunlight or extreme temperatures.  Keep in mind that once the product has been diluted, the solution should be used or discarded within 24 hours of mixing.

    Can I use Bora-Care on a painted porch post & railing that has termite dropping below if I power wash it first?
    The porch post already has cracks in it and some of the wood next to it sounds hallow. Will Bora Care still penetrate into the cracks even if the wood is painted, but is slightly cracking & exposed?

    No, for Bora-Care to work properly, it would need to be applied to raw wood only with no paint, stain or finish on it. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions. 

    Instead of Bora Care, if you are unable to strip the paint, you may want to consider using a product like Jecta into inject into the wood. You may view the product label here.

    I am using Bora Care to treat the outside of a full wine barrel planter along with sealing the application with a verathane type sealant. For additional protection, can I use BoraCare on the inside of the barrel without a sealant, or is the sealant going to be necessary because the product is water soluble?

    Yes, it is recommended to seal all wood surfaces after applying Bora-Care to ensure the application is locked into the wood.

    How do I treat whitewashed wood with Bora-Care?
    Our barn has powederpost beetles and much of the wood is whitewashed. How do I apply bora-care to whitewashed wood? Should the whitewash be power-washed off, wood allowed to dry thoroughly, then Bora-Care applied? Would the power washing simply drive the eggs/larvae deeper into the wood?
    A

    Bora-Care has to be applied to raw, untreated, and unpainted wood. If you have whitewashed wood you will need to remove the whitewash so that the Bora-Care can soak into the wood. You would need to allow it to fully dry and then apply. You can whitewash again once the Bora-Care has fully dried as well. If the power-washing drove the eggs deeper the Bora-Care could still get to it as it soaks into the wood but you would need to apply to all sides of the wood.
