Boracare
By Peter on 11/21/2013
We had a fairly bad infestation in 3600 SF of oak we have been air drying. We applied a 1:1 mix on both surfaces. After about a week we started seeing powder post beetle powder in a few places. We are going to give those locations another applications and see how well it workes.

Hope it works as advertised
By Frank on 06/18/2012
The Boracare arrived very quickly so I was able to use it as soon as I was able. I followed the mixing instructions, which recommended a drill attachment stirrer for this viscous product. Application with a sprayer went well and the only downside is that I'll need another case to be able to finish the job. I was using the Boracare on an old barn and the coverage was only about 200 sq. ft. per mixed 1to1 gal. recommended for active infestation control. I can't tell the effectiveness of the product yet on my application as I only used it the day before yesterday.

used BoraCare on all wood in crawlspace and attic after seeing termites swarm. Have saturated wood and will make second applicatiion after allowing two months for product to penetrated the wood. Haven't seen any more swarming, and after second application, anticipate will have permenate protection from future wood damage. I am satisified with this product at this time.
Termites and mold
By Marka on 01/05/2024
We redid the floors in our house and decided to spray Bora-Care below the sub-floor in the crawl space, and on top of the sub-floor before installing the new floors to keep away termites and mold. We will see!!! No problems mixing the Bora-Care and spraying it to apply.

At first this product did not seem to work. I applied it several times. After a brief cold snap where carpenter bees don't come out. When it did warm back up there were only a couple of bees that showed up but did not stay long. So I have to say this product works great where others have failed miserably.
Watch out for drips and overspray - dries sticky
By Sjc on 11/05/2021
I liked this product because it's relatively non-toxic, so I felt comfortable using it as a DIY-er. When mixed with water 1:1 it's very watery and therefore drippy. Since I was spraying it over my head onto a basement ceiling I ended up with LOTS of drips. I used a fantastic sprayer (Chapin Premier) but still wasn't able to keep the product only on the targeted beams. The overspray and falling droplets dried to a sticky film. It wipes up with a warm wet cloth but that was another step to the project I hadn't counted on.

Some sticky spots
By Alana on 10/17/2019
Overnight it looks like beetle infestation kicked up and there's been more dust than normal, a lot more. There are some spots that have sticky droplets that are visible and you can feel. I'm curious as to if these can be wiped down. It's on a nightstand that I lightly coated.

Ordered it, it arrived on date stated with tracking number. Have already applied to the deck. 5:1 ratio H20 : Bora Care Watched a U-Tube of B. Villa applying with pump up sprayer. Though I would try it. Will see down the road if it lives up to Villa's recommendation. My guess is it will.
Pretty Effective
By Mike on 07/05/2017
I had some sweet mesquite that was laying out to dry in my barn. Saw the telltale dust piles and decided to try the Bora Care. Applied it with a pump sprayer. A week later I found that there are only a dozen or so dust piles still forming. Probably a 90% kill rate. My next move is to try injecting the treatment into the remaining bore holes with a syringe. To early to identify any reinfestation.

I'd like to hold off on my final verdict concerning Boracare. I am using it to kill powder post beatles. They are not active right now so I won't know about the effectiveness of the product until this Spring. I will then try to do another review. Now about my experience with using the product. What ever you do make sure to use hot water😨. The stuff is like syrup but mixes well with the hot water. I used a cheap 2 gallon sprayer with no problems. Follow the directions! Use the precautions😷. This stuff is only 40% Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT). It's the other 60% I have concerns about. Heck! Timbor is 98% DOT and it's used a preventative. I plan on contacting Nisus Corporation again to ask about what makes up the other 60%. Also, Nisus has a great PDF file on figuring square footage to be sprayed. Is missed by a half gallon doesn't sound like much but at $80 a pop. This is a good site for how to use the product and figure amount. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://nisuscorp.com/images/uploads/documents-technical-bulletins/techbulletin_newconstructiontreatments.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwi9nuXXtP3OAhVL6yYKHVOIAScQFggoMAA&usg=AFQjCNFZED7OmXfBaRHH2HRdFtg0QvLG8A. This other link is the one I referred to when figuring number of gallons to buy. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://nisuscorp.com/images/uploads/documents-technical-bulletins/techbulletin_loghomes_dimensionallumber.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwiKoYfhtf3OAhWEgCYKHY2wDy8QFggiMAE&usg=AFQjCNEokDVm9Qo6lgaR14Qx0NWCP0CWKw. Even though it says log homes it still deals with all measurements of timber. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Ric PS: The star rating may change, hopefully up😎

Boracare review
By Earlene on 09/14/2012
The product was fairly easy to use, and not too messy. I used a sprayer for it. I'd give the item 5 stars, but I'm unsure of the lasting effects! However, I think I'll be long dead before I'll have to worry about termites again! The ordering process was very easy, and my product arrived in the scheduled time. All in all a very good experience with this company. Thank you!

my amateur experience in application
By Todd on 08/23/2015
I can't report Bora-care's effectiveness on past or present populations of powder post beetles (without a way to gage numbers before and after) but trust that it works if you follow the application directions. I mixed the product with warm water under the recommended usage ratio in a glass jar, shaking it vigorously, and funneled it into a hand plant mister for my small jobs. It considerably darkened my old oak beam, lightened, part darkened, then finally lightened again over time. My hand mister and backpack sprayer both became clogged if I wasn't careful to mix it well. With whatever sprayer tool you use, it's hard to know how much or how little to apply across the wood's area.
Prior planning prevents heartaches later

I can't attest to the effectiveness of this material because I used to treat the lumber I was using to replace some rotting 2 x 4's in a wall. Since termites must have contact with moisture, preventing water seepage is always number one. Mix Bora-Care 50:50 with water and paint it on, allowing overnight drying because it it thick and sticky. Univ. of Georgia Extension termite specialist recommended this product and it is easy to use plus gives me piece of mind.

By Doug on 10/21/2014
I have an on going problem with powder post beetles and have used the product in the past. Shipping may not be Fast but I get my orders fairly quickly. Suggestions: Follow the directions and mix with a paint mixer it is the easiest and best way to get it in suspension. My old hand sprayer puked and I had to run into town and buy a replacement. I bought a cheap sprayer, don't, spend the money on a good one. The quality of your hand sprayer will play a big part on how well you cover the surface. I would up wasting to much with a cheap one.

Great Service. Looking Forward to the product
By Soroush on 09/09/2014
Domyownpestcontrol provided a great service both times I bought this product. This is the second time I am buying a batch to apply. I feel the termite growth has slowed down, but yet looking forward to achieve ultimate results. Last time I bought it was last year. This time the product feels greasier.
So far so good
By George on 08/29/2014
Product arrived in perfect condition, contrary to a few reviews that have mentioned leaking containers. My initial application was easy because I was spot-treating an infested wood countertop, so I mixed up a small batch and applied it with a brush. Very hot water is needed to dissolve the BoraCare but it stayed in solution once mixed. No trace of any powderpost dust since the application, and although it has only been a few weeks, this is a great sign.

I can not, at this time, attest to the effectiveness of this product because it was just applied, but, can say that the price was reasonable and shipping was prompt. Have hopes that this relatively non-toxic product will prevent future destruction by wood destroying insects, particularly, termites found at the attached neighbors property.
