Can I use Boracare to treat a stump? Do I need to remove the bark?

I have a maple stump with two trunks that I intend to leave in the ground. It has what looks like carpenter ant damage on the top of one of the trunks. I'd like to treat it to preserve the trunk. Will the treatment still be effective if I only apply to the top of the trunk? Would I need to remove the bark from the rest of the stump?

Answer:

Bora-Care should only be used on raw cut wood not any tree stump.
