John from Jeffersonville, Indiana writes

Can I use Tenacity to kill nimblewill before fall seeding?

I would like to use Tenacity to kill out some nimblewill and other weeds before I seed with a tall fescue blend of grass seed in the fall, around September 1st. If it may take two applications of Tenacity, when should I use my two applications for best results? IE. first application of Tenacity on July 15 and second application of Tenacity on August 15 then seed my tall fescue blend on September 1st ? Also, for a 10,000 sq. ft yard, how much would I need for two applications?

Answer:

To control nimblewill, you should start applying Tenacity Herbicide in the spring (late-April). You will need to make two or three applications to get complete control.  You can also apply Tenacity in late summer and fall, but you should initiate treatments by August for best results.  If you are spot treating, you will need to use 1 tsp. of Tenacity along with 3 tsp. Non Ionic Surfactant in 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.  Otherwise apply Tenacity at 5 fl. oz. per acre in at least 30 gallons of water per acre.
