  • Asked by Tawny from Laguna Beach, California
    09/28/2016
    Q
How long would I need to cover my pond for when using Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate when treating a tree above it for caterpillars?
I have roughly a 200 gallon fish pond below the trees that I need to spray for an infestation of the redhumped Catapillar. Can I cover the pond while spraying? How long should I wait before uncovering the pond? Will leaves or dead catapillars that fall hurt the water or fish in my pond?
    A

When using Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate you can use it under your tree to treat for caterpillars as long as you cover the pond, and leave it covered until all the treated foilage has time to dry. Per the manufacturer the residual left on that foiliage or the pest that come in contact with it would not harm your fish should any of it fall into the pond after the treated area has dried.

  • Asked by Florence from Lynbrook, New York

    Q
I have an infestation of bag worms and was wondering if it was worth to spray now or should we wait?
    A

Unfortunately spraying for bagworms now is pointless. You can manually control bagworms by simply plucking them off of the infested trees and dropping them into a bucket of soapy water or squishing them.  This control method is most useful during fall, winter and early spring, before the eggs inside the bag have hatched.

It is important to start control methods before a major infestation occurs. Once the bagworms have matured and have formed the "bag" most chemical control methods will no longer work. Using a product like Talstar P before the eggs have hatched in the spring and early summer will most beneficial.

    Q
I am looking for a general treatment for spiders and other normal household bugs that I can spray once a month.
I just purchased a new home and do not want to have hire a pest control company to spray monthly. I live in Arizona where we have a tendency for scorpions, spiders, black widows, ants, etc. What is a good general chemical that I could spray around the outside of the house once a month that would help to prevent pests from entering into the house? I am not sure what the pros use when they spray.
    A
Demon WP would be a great choice for all of the pests you mentioned and is one of the top choices for professionals when those hard to kill insects are the target. The only downside to Demon WP is that it could potentially leave a white powdery residue on dark surfaces. If this is a concern for you, another top contender is Cy-Kick CS. You should not solely rely on pesticides to keep insects at bay. You should also do your part by making your property less favorable to spiders and scorpions. Please take a few minutes to read our article Integrated Pest Management to learn more.

  • Asked by Jacque from Eugene

    Q
Will Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate affect ladybugs through direct contact while it is wet, the next day or the next week after the application?
I want to release Ladybugs but do not want them to come into contact with treated areas. Also, does this product treat for Aphids?
    A

Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate could harm lady bugs that come in contact with it after it has been sprayed. Since the reapplication time is 7-10 days after the first application, we would recommend waiting at least 10 days after applying to release the lady bugs.

Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate is not labeled for aphids. On edible plants, you could use Monterey Fruit Tree Spray Plus which has neem oil and pyrethrin for a great contact kill/knockdown of insects like aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, cabbageworms, and many more. This can be applied up to the day of harvest, please refer to the product label for your specific edibles to be listed. We generally do not recommend spraying directly on flowering blooms so as not to harm beneficial pollinators. You can view all our products for aphid control here.
