Product Overview

Casoron 4G is a selective pre-emergence herbicide that prevents many variety of weeds and grasses. Casoron 4G controls weeds before they emerge from the ground, by forming an herbicidal vapor barrier in the upper layer of the soil when activated by rainfall or irrigation water. Casoron 4G should be applied before weed seed germination and emergence from the soil (usually from mid-winter to early spring). A single application will usually provide season-long weed control.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Perennial Weed Control

Apply CASORON 4G as a soil surface treatment in late fall from November 15 to February 15. Old weed growth should not be removed before application. Do not make surface application to areas which have been cultivated during the fall or summer prior to application.

Annual Weed Control

Apply CASORON 4G either in early spring before seeds of annual weeds germinate or after cultivation has removed the growing weeds. Distribute granules uniformly over the soil surface. If treatment is followed by application of 1/2 to 1 inch of water by overhead irrigation, the lower rates are recommended. Shallow incorporation immediately after application is recommended in southern areas. In other areas, shallow incorporation or sprinkler irrigation is suggested when applications are made during periods of high temperature.

Nut Sedge Control

CASORON 4G can be used for control of nutsedge in non-crop areas only. Apply recommended rates and incorporate immediately to a depth of 4 to 6 inches. Seasonal control of annual weeds will also be obtained with this application.

    5 stars for Casoron

    By Dorothy on 04/15/2017

This was a gift sent to my son to rid the hill from weeds and having to maintain each spring, but I used this product in Montana when my home had small gravel surrounding it. Spread this all around as spring was arriving and NEVER were there any weeds growing all around my home or down the driveway. Everyone wondered how I did that!!

Q
If I put Casoron 4G Herbicide on poison oak growing under and between 30- to 40-year-old Fir trees, will it kill them?
A

Casoron 4G Herbicide is a pre-emergent only, so it will not kill any existing plants such as poison oak. The product label indicates that Casoron 4G may injure conifers if applied in a way that contacts the foliage. We recommend that you wear protective clothing, cut the vines, and then treat the fresh cuts with a brush killer such as Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer or RoundUp QuikPro for best results and to reduce risk to the desirable trees.

Q
I used Casoron on the floor of my greenhouse. Is there a way to get rid of it and the effects?

I didn't realize that the Casoron would stay in the air, etc. of the greenhouse. Needless to say, I haven't had luck growing anything this year. Is there a way to get rid of the effects of the Casoron?

A

Casoron 4G Herbicide does not get into the air and effect plants or soil that way.  It can prevent things growing in treated soil as it is pre-emergent though.  Since it can stay in the soil for at least 1 year, you would need to wait at least one year after application to replant or remove the treated soil and replace with new.

Q
Will Casoron 4G Herbicide kill Mediterranean Sage?

I have a terrible Mediterranean Sage problem have tried commercial Roundup, Crossbow, and Pendulum and it keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

A

Casoron 4G is not labeled for Mediterranean sage at all.  We are not aware of any pre-emergents that are labeled for use on sage to prevent it from coming up or coming back.  Most applications are done with a post-emergent herbicide that is used throughout the growing season to control it as it comes up.  A product like Gordons Pasture Pro is labeled to control Mediterranean sage and can be used at up to 2 oz per gallon of water.  Gly Pho-Sel Pro Dry 75 also lists sage in general on the label and can be used per the label at up to 7 oz per gallon. Gly Pho Sel is one of the highest percentage glyphosate (Roundup-type) products on the market but it is a non-selective herbicide so you will want to be careful with application if desirable vegetation is nearby.
