    Q
    Dichlobenil
can this be used to treat sewer lines to get rid of roots?
    A
No, Casoron 4G Herbicide is not labeled to be used in sewer or septic lines to kill root systems and advises against that use on the product label. However, we do have Hi Yield Root Killer that is labeled for that type of application and use. Hi-Yield Root Killer dissolves the roots that are intruding into the pipes without harming those trees and shrubs outside of the lines. This product will not corrode sewer or drain pipes that connect to septic tanks and will not kill the necessary bacteria needed for septic systems to function. Please read and follow all label driections.

  • Asked by Beth from Alberta
    11/05/2017
    Q
If a few centimeters of snow has already fallen and temps are below zero, can you still apply Casoron?
We usually apply when a light layer of frost is on the shrub beds but no snow...this year we are later but now there is a layer of snow on the beds. Will it work it's way down or stay where it is until it thaws?
    A

The snow has to thaw in order for Casoron 4G Herbicide to work. It will have to be reapplied and watered in if the snow does not thaw within 10 days of application.

    Q
Is Casoron 4G Herbicide harmful to birds?

If birds were to contact an area that was treated with Casoron 4G Herbicide  before it was dry, it could be harmful to them. We recommend to apply when birds are less active, perhaps during the evening.

  • Asked by Sue from Warrenton
    05/08/2014
    Q
Does the active ingredient dichlobenil only act as a preemergent?
There's another product by Lilly Miller with the same ingredient that's sold as a vegetation killer at 2% and I've used it as a vegetation killer in the past, so I'm a bit confused.
    A
Casoron 4G is a preemergence herbicide that kills selective weeds and grasses. Casoron 4G controls weeds before they emerge from the ground, by forming an herbicidal vapor barrier in the upper layer of the soil when activated by rainfall or irrigation water. Casoron 4G should be applied before weed seed germination and emergence from the soil (usually from mid-winter to early spring). What product do you see that works as a post emergent?

  • Asked by Gail from Portland, Or
    05/21/2017
    Q
How soon can I plant annuals in a bed that has been treated with Casoron 4G Herbicide?
The emerging chrysanthamum and rhubarb are dying back. Will they survive?
    A

The product label for Casoron 4G Herbicide specifically states, "Do not plant or transplant into treated soil." You should apply Casoron only around established plants and transplants as directed on the product label. We would recommend waiting at least one year before transplanting into areas treated with Casoron unless otherwise specified for particular plants elsewhere on the label.

  • Asked by Nick from Windermere, Uk
    04/24/2019
    Q
Are Casoron G and Casoron 4G the same product?
    A

There is only one version of Casoron that we are aware of and that is the Casoron 4G. Many customers and businesses may refer to it just as Casoron or Casoron G to indicate that its a granule and not a liquid.

    Q
What are the application rates for Casoron in a hand held spreader (Scotts)?
    A

The rate at which you apply Casoron 4G will be dependent on the weeds you are targeting and in what type of areas and around what type of plants you will be treating. You will need to look over the Casoron Product Label to find the rates specific to your needs which can range between 100-200 lbs of Casoron per acre.

  • Asked by Sue from Warrenton, Or
    05/09/2014
    Q
Is Dichlobenil mainly a pre emergent?
Will this also kill vegetation? Dichlobenil 2% is also sold by a major brand as a vegetation killer, but then sold also as Casoron as a preemergent only. I find this confusing. I would like to a product that does both actually.
    A
Dichlobenil in Casoron 4G Herbicide is a pre emergent. There may be other ingredients in the vegetation killer product that make it a pre and post emergent.  We would recommend to contact the manufacturer of that product for the active ingredient.

  • Asked by Peggy from Roseburg, Or
    09/14/2017
    Q
Can I apply Casoron 4G Herbicide in fall to prevent weeds from emerging in spring?
I would like to apply in fall and then plant my vegetables in spring (plants not seeds). Would this work to keep weeds from getting a head start? Would it be too harsh for the small vegetable starts?
    A

The Casoron 4G herbicide product label states: Do not plant rotational crops, on which dichlobenil is not registered, in treated soil within one year of application.  It is not labeled to be used in soil where vegetables will be planted so we cannot recommend you do so.  For vegetable gardens we have the Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder and the Hi-Yield Herbicide Granules.  Please refer to each product label for complete list of plants it is safe to use with and the target weeds to determine which fits your needs.

  • Asked by Kay from Rochester, Wa
    03/29/2019
    Q
Will Casoron 4G Herbicide be effective if it spread over a ground cover of medium bark?
Mulch was used to keep weeds from spreading or does it need to be directly on soil to work?
    A

Casoron 4G Herbicide is best applied directly to soil and then watered in to create the barrier needed to prevent weeds from emerging.  To help get the Casoron granules to the soil in mulched you must heavily irrigate the area after the application. Casoron is a mild soil sterilant, so it is very important not to put it in areas where it will contact desirable plants or in areas where you will soon want to grow new plants.
