Casoron 4G Herbicide is not labeled for use in lawns and could possibly injure the turfgrass if applied especially on St. Augustine or Centipede since these are already sensitivie turfgrass species.
Please view our St. Augustine Lawn Guide for more information and recommendations.
Casoron 4G Herbicide is not labeled for use around asparagus. Prowl is a liquid pre-emergent option that we carry that is safe to use.
We recommend that you contact the Casoron manufacturer directly as they are the experts on their product and they may be able to offer you some useful advice in this situation. You can reach Chemtura at (800) 423-8569

Thank you,
Unfortunately, Casoron 4G Herbicide is not labeled for mugwort and not for use in oriental lilies. Unfortunately, we are unable to find any pre-emergent herbicides that are labeled for mugwort, or that specifically labeled as safe for applications to oriental lilies.
We suggest reaching out to your local nursery or to the master gardener at your local county extension office for treatment recommendations.
The coverage for Casoron 4G Herbicide will vary depending on the weeds you are targeting (annual, perennial or nutsedge).
For approved application sites listed on the product label, apply 100-150lbs per acre for annual weeds, 150-200 lbs per acre for perennial weeds and 250lbs per acre for nutsedge.
Casoron 4G Herbicide can not be applied as a liquid. Per the label, you should distribute granules uniformly over the soil surface then water in with 1/2 inch of water or rainfall.
Depending on your target weeds, Barricade 4L or Dimension 2EW could be used in a liquid formulation for pre emergent control of weeds. Pleae view the product labels for information on weeds controlled and application rates.
Casoron should be applied at least 10-15 feet away from bodies of water and outside of high water mark areas if water levels should rise. Do not apply on terrain where runoff into bodies of water would occur with heavy rainfall or irrigation.
Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.
We would not recommend Casoron 4G for raised beds or flower/ornamental areas as many species have not been tested over and it could cause damage to the plants.
Snapshot DG would be a better option. Please view the full product label for more information.
Casoron 4G is a selective pre-emergent herbicide that will prevent the germination of listed weeds on the product label and should provide season long residual in a single application. Pre emergents do not kill actively growing weeds, only prevents them from germination,
Pre emergents must be applied in early spring or late fall prior to soil temperatures reaching 55 degrees in order to stop the germination of weeds and prevent the weeds from emerging from the soil. For specific timing recommendations in your region and for the specific weeds you are targeting, please contact your County Extension Office for recommendations. prevent listed weeds from germinatig in the soils many variety of weeds and grasses.
No, Casoron 4G Herbicide cannot be applied to aspargus or any other edibles.
An alternartive recommendation would be Monterey Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder that is labeled for asparagus as a single application.
Per the product label for asparagus, apply after ferns are removed but before spear emergence.
No, Casoron 4G Herbicide is best applied directly to soil with a granule spreader that is calibrated to the product labeled rates per area and then watered in with irrigation or rainfall to create the barrier needed to prevent weeds from emerging.
Casoron 4G Herbicide is not labeled for use around asparagus therefore would not be recommended.
Monterey Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder would be an option for a pre emergent herbcide in established asparagus beds after ferns are removed but before spear emergents. Per the product label, this can be applied as a single application to established asparagus.
Casoron 4G Herbicide should not be applied near desirable trees including conifers. Avoid applications within the drip line or where granules would lodge into the foliage or accumulate and be in contact with the trunk at or below the soil line.
A good general distance would be to keep applications atleast 1 ft outside the drip line or canopy of the tree. Please view the full product label for more information.
Most pre emergents will not prevent tree seeds from sprouting. Casoron 4G Herbicide while safe to use around established Cottonwood trees, does not state that it would stop the cottonwood seeds specifically from sprouting, just annual weeds.
SureGuard SC is a potential option as its a post and pre emergent herbicide for use around established trees and plantations. Per the product label, the manufacturer states the following information:
"IMPORTANT: When applied as directed, poplars (Populus balsamifera, P. niger and P. tremuloides), hybrid poplars (P. sp. x sp.), and cottonwoods (P. deltoids and P. trichocarpa) have shown tolerance to this product. However, this product is a very active herbicide. Exercise responsible judgment and caution until familiarity is gained with this product. Test this product on a small number of plants to determine if this product can be used safely on a widespread basis. Do not apply this product over the top unless trees are more than one year old."
You can often reduce cottonwood fluff by making a cottonwood tree seedless through annual treatment with an herbicide containing ethephon, like Florel Plant Growth Regulator.
PGR herbicides are growth inhibiting, and they will prevent the seeds from forming when sprayed at the appropriate time of year. Getting a head start on treating your cottonwood tree with a growth hormone early in the spring is best and a full coverage spray of the fruit and tree is needed to prevent the seeds from dropping. You would not be able to spray a systemic application at the roots and have it impact the seed at the top.
Casoron 4G Herbicide does not specifically list ferns, lavender or buttercup on the product label as tolerable species, so we are unsure if this product would kill them or not. We would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer directly for more information on this at (800) 356-4647.
We would advise waiting till Casoron 4G Herbicide has completely dried before letting pets back in the area typically after 4-6 hours. The product is also not labeled to be used around lake, ponds, or rivers. We would recommend staying 25 ft away from any bodies of water and do not water in to the point of runoff.
Unfortunately we do not have a product that will control for up to 2 years, but we do carry Eraser Max Super Concentrate Herbicide that will prevent regrowth for up to a year. It will kill any weeds that are actively there since it is a non-selective post, but also prevent regrowth of weeds just like Casoron 4G Herbicide
