    Q
Can I spray Celsius WG now and will it have any effect on the green seeds from buttonweed?
Pulled Buttonweed, but some seeds dropped and see others. What is your recommendation?
    A

Celsius WG Herbicide is a post-emergent so therefore it would not effect the seeds, it would only effect germinated seeds. If you are looking for a pre-emergent. You can consider Pendelum 2G Herbicide and verify with your local extension office for optimal timing for prevention on buttonweed in your area.

    Q
Is Celsius safe for Saint Augustine turf going dormant?
I would like to try a second application to get rid of chamberbitter that survived the first application in September. But now in November, my Saint Augustine turf might be going dormant. I don’t want to damage it with cold weather coming.
    A

Celsius WG Herbicide is labeled as safe to use on Saint Augustine during any dormant/growing season for actively growing weeds.

The product label does advise that weed control is more rapid when soil temperatures are above 65 degrees and slower when soil temperatures are below 65 degrees.

  • Asked by Play from Bridgeport, Tx
    10/12/2024
    Q
How much Celsius WG Herbicide for 25 gal. of water?
Large clumps of Johnson grass scatted across field.
    A

For the control of Johnsongrass, Celsius WG Herbicide recommends applying at the rate of .057 oz per 1k square feet. In order to determine how much water to use, you will need to calibrate your sprayer. Here is a video to assist with that

Per the product label: For broadcast applications, use a minimum of 10 gallons of water per acre. For weed control in dense weed populations, control of weeds under adverse growing conditions, or control of mature weeds, the optimum spray volume is 60 gallons per acre.

Celsius is only labeled to be used on Warm-Season Turf Types Only in Commercial and Residential Sites, it is not labeled to be used in any type of hay field or pasture where animals graze.

  • Asked by Alan from Magnolia, Tx
    09/20/2024
    Q
Can I spray Celsius WG Herbicide around oak trees?
    A

Some ornamentals may be sensitive to Celsius WG Herbicide and since it wasn't tested for use on ornamentals it is best to try and avoid spraying them with Celsius.  We would recommend only spot treating weeds directly inside the dripline of trees/shrubs and avoiding any contact with exposed roots or the trees themselves.

    Q
Can I use a combination of blue marker dye and a wetting agent with Celsius WG?
I am preparing to spray next spring when it starts emerging for Virginia Buttonweed in Bermuda Grass. Since my lawn is small, I will be buying two packets since I gather the button weed is very likely to take two applications.
    A

Yes, a wetting agent/non ionic surfactant is needed when using Celsius WG. Spray indicators can be added at your discretion. It is used to help avoid overlap and not miss patches of grass.

    Q
I have Virginia buttonweed invading Asian jasmine ground cover. Will the jasmine tolerate Celsius WG?
    A
Celsius WG Herbicide should not be applied to groundcovers including Asian Jasmine. We recommend spot treating with a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup QuickPRO very carefully or manual removal of broadleaf weeds in the groundcover.

  • Asked by Ron from Oakdale, Ca

    Q
Will Celsius WG kill bermuda in a fescue blend sod lawn?
I have an invasion of bermuda in my fescue blend of lawn. I have been spraying Turflon Ester. But that just slows it down, Will this product be more effective? I live in the hot Central Valley of California.
    A

No, Celsius WG Herbicide is safe on warm season lawns such as Bermuda. It will not harm it any way. Depending on what type of fescue you have, Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is labeled to control bermuda.

Please be advised that Bermuda grass is extremely difficult to control and you will likely need to make several applications no matter which product is used and multiple seasons at times.  Best time to apply products to control it is in fall as it is starting to go back into dormancy or the spring when it is coming back out of dormancy.

    Celsius WG Storage
Accidentally left my Celsius WG bottle under the sun/heat for 2 weeks. Did it go bad and should I buy a new one, or does it still work?
    A

Since Celsius WG Herbicide is a granule, the heat should not affect it. If any moisture got in the packaging though, you would need to replace it

    Q
Getting rid of Bahia Grass, with Celsius WG Herbicide work?
How many applications does it usually take to get rid of Bahia grass in Bermuda Lawn, if applied in May/June when average daily high temp is 90-95F?
    A

Unfortunately, Celsius WG Herbicide is not labeled to control bahiagrass but you can use MSM Turf Herbicide, it can be used on bermudagrass and it's labeled to help control bahia. It works best when applied in temps between 65 to 85F degrees. It is recommended to make an application early in the morning or in the evening when it's cooler. Weeds, whether grassy or broadleaf, can take a few years to completely control.

    Q
    Will Celsius kill Catbrier?
    A

Celsius WG Herbicide is not labeled for Catbrier also known as Greenbrier, Cat Sawbrier and Sarsaparilla vine. Greenbrier is a very difficult weed to control once established since it has a rhizome system under the ground.

This article from the UGA Extension service has advice on how to treat this plant:

For a glyphosate product, we would suggest Ranger Pro Concentrate and for a brush killer/triclopyr product, Crossbow Herbicide (triclopyr and 2,4-D) or Southern Ag Brush Killer (triclopyr) would be recommended.
