    Q
How can I get rid of ants coming from my heating vents?
    A

We recommend baiting near the heating vent. We offer the Complete Ant Kit that contains everything you need to bait for ants, Advance 375A a protein based bait, Optigard Ant Bait Gel a carbohydrate based bait and 12 bait stations to keep the bait fresh and in place. The ants will eat the bait and carry it bait to the nest, eventually eliminating the colony. We do not recommend spraying insecticide into the heat vent.

    Q
What is the best way to get rid of ants in a shower?
I have one bathroom. I woke up one morning about a week ago to about 7 or eight little black ants snooping around my shower. I smooched them all. And since I have been washing it with soap and a washcloth at the end of every shower, drying it COMPLETLEY, and running my sleeping fan in there during the day for better ventilation. Once dry, I've been sprinkling boric acid all over the shower, and along the crevices of the floors. I live in a rental, and its pretty old. There are some cracks in the caulking running up along where the shower meets the wall, and other places they could be coming in. I've doused those areas as well. However, MOST of the ants that accumulate when I come home are always sitting (dead) in the bottom of the boric acid sprinkled shower. That leads me to believe that they are maybe coming in through the drain or something? Well, those persistent little things still aren't quitting and I'm wanting to kill this problem fast!!! I currently am being controlled by these things, and taking twice as long in the AM to make sure I don't leave the bathroom untreated. I REALLY NEED HELP! I know people say to use the ant baits but I feel like that would be pointless seeing they would just be dispersed and ruin their trails back to their nests when I shower in the morning and The baits would just introduce more as a result. Thanks guys for all your help!

We highly suggest you read over our detailed article called "How to Get Rid of Ants". This gives a detailed breakdown of what steps to take for treating whether using baits or sprays and where to look for nesting sites. The baits in our Complete Ant Kit really are the best option as you will not put them IN the shower, but near and around the shower for them to go to. They are looking for food and water so just because you see them IN the shower when you find them, doesn't mean they wont leave it to get to a food source. The ants cannot eat the bait in the form its in so they take it back to the colony to be broken down first, and then dispersed to the queen and workers to eliminate the entire colony at its source. This does take time but its the most complete way of getting rid of them.

    Q
Which is the best product for killing flying ants? I don't know where they're coming from.
    A
Flying ants are just regular ants that are leaving to start a new colony. Indoors these ants will not be able to complete their mission to start a new colony and will soon die on their own. If they are a nuisance to you, you can use pyrethrin aerosol such as Microcare to knock them down. If indeed you do have flying ants indoors this could also mean that you have an ant colony in a wall void of in some other inaccessible area indoors. You could try to put a little peanut butter and a little honey on a piece of foil near where you are seeing ant activity to see if they will start trailing. If they do form a trail this could point to where they are nesting. You will also be able to switch out the peanut butter and honey for ant bait which in turn will eliminate the nesting ants.

    Q
Will the Complete Ant Kit work for sugar ants?
I cannot tell where they are coming from. If this isn't right for them, what is?
    A
Our Complete Ant Kit is perfect for sugar ants, or argentine ants which is what their real name is.  Usually, you cannot tell where the nest is which is why the baits in our kit is what you should use.  The ants will eat the products in the Complete Ant Kit and take them back to wherever their colony is and feed the bait to the queen and all of the other colony members.  Usually within 5 - 10 days the entire colony will be eliminated.  The ant gel is for placement inside the home, and the granules are meant for outside around the home.  However, since our kit comes with bait plate stations, you can place both the gel and the granules in the bait plate stations so the ants inside the home have a choice when feeding.

    Q
Why are half dead ants appearing everywhere?
I have the Complete Ant Kit. I used the baits where I saw the most activity (Bathrrom and office) No idea where the tunnels are. Now I get half dead ants in the middle of the rooms. Does this means it's working? Or are they not making it back to their nest/tunnel?
    A
It is normal to see dead or dying ants during the ant baiting process. Ants will have to succumb at some point after eating the bait and they are often "kicked out" of the colony after they start acting sick, thus you will see sick or dead ants. Usually the ants have already returned and spread the bait to the colony at this point and the work has been done.

    Q
I need help finding the expiration date on the Ant Kit I bought last year.
I bought your Ant kit back in July 2012 and wonder what the shelf life(if any) is of the products. I got the Optigard Ant Gel bait, and the Advance 375A granular bait. But I see no month/yr expiration. The Optigard says WEL2C08001 and REL 03/12 on the lid, and the Advance says 59011798 11 266 and 200569539 0810 on the back of the jar. I hope that I don't have to purchase new product since this cost me $49. I absolutely LOVE your products, and am a life-long customer. I just could use some answers.
    A
Most products shelf life will vary by how you store it. Baits normally have a shorter shelf life than insecticide sprays as baits are made from food grade ingredients. As with any food based product, over time it can start to mold, break down or become less appealing than other fresh food sources readily available to the insects. If you keep the gel sealed and in a temperature stable environment they will normally have a shelf life of at least 2 years. The granular bait could last around the same time depending on where you stored it and if any moisture has gotten inside of the bottle. The codes that you see are reference numbers for the manufacturers only so that if any products were to be made wrong or not work, they could see what batch it was and when it was made.

    Q
Why do ants keep returning to one location?
I am using your Complete Ant Kit. After treatment (three days), the ants are gone, and there has not been any activity for two to three weeks. They returned back one day in large amounts. This is the fourth time. Three other locations in house took one treatment and never returned.
    A
Ant baits will get rid of the ant colony that is currently in the area, but they will not prevent new ant colonies from moving in. We recommend treating around the outside of your home with a residual insecticide such Talstar P to help eliminate new ant colonies as they try to move into the old ant colonies territory.

    Q
How can I tell what kind of ants are in my house?
    A
You usually cannot tell with the naked eye, but the most common ants in a house are Argentine ants, which are small, trailing ants.  If the ants are trailing one another and you know where they are you can perform a test.  You can place a spoonful of peanut butter and a spoonful of jelly on a piece of paper or tin foil and see which one they go after.  If they eat one of them, then we can suggest a bait that would work.  Peanut butter is a protein, and jelly is a sugar based product.  We have protein and sugar based baits that will work.  If the ants are larger and only seen one at a time randomly, than these might be carpenter ants.  Either way, you cannot go wrong with our complete ant kit, which contains both sugar and protein baits.  Place both out where you see activity and give the ants a choice and it should work.

    Q
Will the Complete Ant Kit be enough for the average size single family home?
    A
The Complete Ant Kit comes with enough product to treat the average house a couple of times. The Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait will cover roughly 1/2 an acre when used as directed on the product label. The Optigard Ant Bait gel comes with four tubes which is plenty to do the initial application and several follow up applications.

    Q
Will Eco PCO WP-X be a suitable residual product for controlling ants in addition to these baits?
I've had ants (look like odorous or sugar ants) coming in various spots in my home. I've located the areas along the house foundation outside where they are trailing from and treated with the Maxforce baits (granules and gels) and these Optigard/Advance baits for months. The trailing stops but the ants return day/weeks later. Not sure why they keep coming into the house, they have not found food for months and there are only one or two at a time, wandering aimlessly, though the baits outside do attract a dozen or so until they die off, then they appear in the house again and the cycle repeats. From your materials looks like new ant colonies could be moving in, and you recommend spraying something around the home perimeter. I was hoping for something not so toxic, and wondered about the Eco PCO WP-X for this. If not, what else would you recommend? I have a dog and practice organic gardening so was trying to stay away from toxic products, but am desperate to rid us of these ants.
    A
Eco Pco WP-X can be used as a residual spray outdoors for ant control. Any ants that cross over the treated areas will be eliminated but the residual will not spread back to the colony. You should also take a close look at the area that seems to get invaded so often to determine what exactly is bringing the ants to that particular area. Is there a high level of moisture? Is there a mulched flower bed? Plants nearby that could be hosts to aphids? Please take a few minutes to read our article Integrated Pest Management to learn more about taking a holistic approach to pest control. Pest control should not equal pesticides alone. There are many things you can do to make your property less favorable to pest insects. You can also read Ant Prevention Quick Tips and How to Get rid of Odorous House Ants to learn more about ant control.

    Q
What to use for ant problem. Seeing midden piles/areas inside house and garage.
I believe they are the small ants ( dead ) of the 'Big Headed Ant' variety.
    A
When seeing ants on the inside of the home, we recommend using the Complete Ant Kit for treatment. This kit provides the sugar and protein food source that the ants are searching for along with bait stations that you can use inside the home and garage areas. The best product for perimeter ant control is Termidor SC. Termidor SC will last 6 months doing it as an exterior perimeter treatment. Spray 1ft up and 1ft out from the foundation around the entire periemter of the structure.

    Q
Can the Complete Ant Kit be used around pet (dog) feeding areas.
I guess my questions is If one of my Golden Retriever Dogs gets to a bait station and eats it, will he become sick and die?
    A
The Complete Ant Kit is not harmful to pets when used as directed. We would recommend to put the bait in areas the dog cannot reach. Please keep in mind that there is only a large enough amount active ingredient to kill small insects, so the dog would have to consume quite a bit.

    Q
Will The Complete Ant kit kill large black ants?
the black ants are about the size of red ants. Not small - like fire ants. i hired a bug company who told me the black ants were NOT carpenter - exterminator company not successful. Ants are inside & out. Home in N.C. - Blue Ridge Mts.
    A
We recommend that you fist check to see if the ants will take a bait. You can do this by doing a test called the  "Peanut butter and Honey" test. Simply put a dab of honey on one end of an index card and a dab of peanut butter on the other end and set the card near an area where there has been ant activity. If the ants seem to be attracted to the peanut butter and honey then baiting with the kit should be successful. If you do have a species of ant that doesn't accept bait you can always use a product such as Termidor SC. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that is picked up on the fine hairs of an ants body and then inadvertently spread through the ant colony by normal social interaction. Most people notice that the entire ant infestation is gone in 1-3 weeks. The only downside to Termidor SC is that it is an outdoor only product. If you need to treat indoors you can use Phantom. Phantom is a lot like the Termidor but it does take a little bit longer to see results and it can be used indoors.

The Complete Ant Kit contains Advance 375A Ant Bait Granules which is labeled for all ants and the Optigard Ant Bait Gel which is labeled for all ants except fire, harvester and Pharaoh ants. We also have Carpenter Ant Kits available that come with products that are specifically geared towards carpenter ants. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office to enquire about the ant species in your region.

    Q
I have had a problem with ants in the house for over 10 years.
I've tried professional baits and sprays to home remedy's like cloves and vinegar. They seem to be getting smaller and smaller they can get in a tightly closed peanut butter jar. I have to take everything out of cardboard boxes and put in zip locks because they will make a whole new home in boxes they seem to like the glue. I think they may stay and travel behind the wall paper.. If I get in the attic and spray like crazy above the pantry they leave for awhile but then they move to more places and I'll see a line in a bathroom and closet and another cabinet. They are really small reddish brown. 100s of them can make a cereal box home. In the bathrooms they tend to travel along electrical or water pipes. water, cardboard and sugars in bread or candy attract them.
    A

We would recommend the Complete Ant Kit. It comes with two different food sources the ants will be attracted to. The Advance 375A is a granular protein bait. The Maxforce FC Ant Bait gel is a sugar bait. The kit also comes with bait stations that are refillable and can be be placed indoors and outdoors around your home.

If you are looking for a spray, we would recommend using Suspend SC. It is a general insecticide that can be used indoors as well as outdoors. The residual indoors is up to 90 days and 30 days outdoors. This will be sprayed along th baseboards and cracks and crevices indoors. This can also be sprayed in your attic as well.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
I live in So Cal and have ants inside that seem to like grease (not sugar).
What is the best way to get rid of them?
    A

Its sounds as if you are treating for Grease Ants, which are also known as Thief Ants. Since Grease Ants (aka Thief Ants) usually have nests indoors and outdoors, we recommend doing a complete inspection to try and locate the nest. You will want to treat both the inside and outside of the home to fully treat for Grease Ants. Examples of outdoor nesting sites can be: under rocks, around walkways, in rotting wood and exposed soil. Treating the perimeter of the home with Termidor SC 1ft up and 1ft out from the structure is recommended since Termidor SC lasts for 6 months when used for ant control.

Indoors nesting sites can include under countertops, in wall and cabinet voids, and behind baseboards. Thief ants are also known for building nests very close to, if not inside the nests of other ants, from whom they steal their food. Protein or grease baits seem to be the most accepted by Greast Ants, but they will sometimes switch over to a sweet-feeding cycle for a time. We recommend using our Complete Ant Kit on the inside of the home to meet both nutritional needs of the ants.
