    Q
Will Contrac attract rats from the neighbourhood?
How attracted rats are to the Contrac Blox? A pest control guy suggested that it wouldn't be a good idea to preventatively use baiting station with Contac. He said that it may attract rats that otherwise wouldn't be around the house. Is this right? Would it really attract rats from, say, 10-20 yards away? Thanks.
    A
Yes, the mice and rodents in the area will be attracted to the Contrac Blox as they are made of a variety of very attractive food based ingredients for the rodents to want to feed on. Any rodents looking for a food source would want to go to the bait in the stations.

    Q
Will Contrac bait attract and kill moles?
    A

We do not advise using Contrac Blox Rodenticide to treat for moles as it is not labeled to used for that treatment. Moles' primary food source is actually earthworms, and they stay underground to feed, so it is unlikely they would even consume a bait such as Contrac. Please refer to our guide on How to get rid of Moles to help further asisst you.

    Q
Will Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide attract squirrels?
    A

Contrac Blox Rodenticide should be applied in tamper-resistant stations to prevent non-target animals and children from accessing the bait inside. Although this product is only labeled for rats and mice, it is possible that a squirrel could be attracted to the bait matrix for consumption since squirrels are in the same family as rats/mice.

    Q
Will Contrac All Weather Blox attract flying squirrels to come into the attic?
Two mouse bait plastic stations containing Contrac All Weather Blox were placed in the attic. The stations were chewed by Flying Squirrels apparently to get to the Contrac All Weather Blox. Is attic use of this product advisable, acceptable, or recommended? Is attic use improper? This apparently caused a flying squirrel infestation.
    A

Since squirrels are in the same family as rats/mice, it is possible the bait matrix in the Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide could be attractive to flying squirrels also. While rodenticides can be used indoors for rodent control, we typically do not recommend baiting for rodents indoors as the bait can draw insects and can also keep drawing the rodents into the home. We would recommend using the Contrac Blox in the tamper resistant bait stations outside the home around the structure. Inside the home, you can use Detour Rodent Repellent to make the attic less appealing to rodents and squirrels and use Rodent Snap Traps or Glue Boards to catch unwanted guests in your attic.

If you know where the squirrels are entering you can use an Tomahawk One Way Door Excluder where they are entering the attic. This will allow the squirrells to exit through the hole, but not get back in. Exclusion Methods with Copper Mesh or Xcluder Wire are great ways to seal up holes to keep mice, rats and squirrels out.

    Q
Are chipmunks attracted to Contrac Blox Rodenticide?
Already using traps for chipmunks but need more in the arsenal.
    A

We cannot recommend that you use Contrac Blox Rodenticide or any other baits for chipmunk control since these products are not registered for that use. There are food attractants in any rodenticide that may be attractive to non-target animals, which is part of the reason these baits should be used in tamper-resistant stations. We can only recommend trapping and repellents for chipmunk control. You may want to contact your local Wildlife/Animal Control Department for any other available options in your area.

    Q
How long does the active ingredient stay active?
I have read the other Q and A about shelf life. I do have an older pail of Contract Bait. The rats are eating it with great enthusiasm, so it still seems to be attractive to them. Does the active ingredient stay effective?
    A

The active ingredient will work as long as the shelf life. The Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide contains food-based ingredients to attract the rodents which is why they will still possibly want to eat the product.

    Q
How does the Contrac Blox mouse bait work?
    A
Contrac Blox contains food ingredients that attract rodents. The rodents then consume the bait. When they receive a lethal amount of bait, they will then expire. Rodent baits should be used in tamper resistant bait stations to avoid accidental contact with children and non-target animals.

    Q
Can Contrac be used around Fruit Trees? I have rats eating the fruit off my trees.
I have hung Contrac Blocks from several limbs on my fruit Trees to get rid of pesky Rats that are eating the Fruit. Is this safe for the Trees if some falls into the soil?
    A

Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide is required by law to only be used in tamper-resistant bait stations within 100 feet of structures and as directed on the product label.  It cannot be just hung/placed out in the open or around edible trees.  The fruit is going to attract the rats first as it is a known food source, to eliminate rats in the area it's really best to pick up any dropped fruit as often as possible to remove their food source.
