    Q
What kind of sprayer works the best for spraying Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate on a pond?
    A

For most applications of Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate, you will dissolve the granules in water and then spray over the water surface with a hand held pump sprayer. Per the product label, you should not apply granules directly to the water unless you have the proper equipment and are already familiar with this treatment. Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate should be applied on a sunny day after mixed with water. You should spray one-half of the water area and wait 14 days before treating the remaining half. This will prevent the suffocation of the fish.

    Q
How much Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate do you mix in a 1gal sprayer for a 1 acre pond?
    A

Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate is a granule algaecide that is applied directly to the water. You should not try to dilute this product and spray it. The granules are used at rates from 0.68 - 5.4 pounds per acre foot of water, depending on the target algae and how heavy the infestation is. Please refer to the product label for complete instructions.

There is a liquid concentrate copper algaecide called Cutrine Plus that you can use if you need to spray algal mats on your pond.

    Q
After spraying Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate, should I go ahead and run the air pump?
    A

According to the product label, There are several methods by which to apply Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate to impounded water. Probably the simplest and most satisfactory method is to dissolve the product in water and spray the solution over the body of the water. A small pump mounted in a boat can easily be used for this purpose. Another method is to broadcast the Copper sulfate granules directly on the water surface from a properly equipped boat. A specially equipped air blower can be used to discharge the product at a specific rate over the surface of the water. Please refer back to the product label for more specific application instructions.

    Q
How long after applying Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate do I wait to use the pond for irrigation use?
    A

There is no specific waiting time after applying Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate to use the pond for irrigation. The label does specify: Do not enter or allow adults, children or pets to enter treated areas until dusts have settled. So depending on how the product is applied, you may want to wait an hour or two to be sure the product has settled. If you are treating very heavy algal growth, then you probably want to wait for the recommended 3 days to hold water dormant until the algae has started to die before using the water.

  • Asked by Rush from Nashville, Mi

    Q
How long does Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate treatment take to kill algae
    A

The amount of time it takes Crystal Blue Copper Sulfate varies, depending on multiple factors.  According to the information provided by the manufacturer on the product label:
"Water hardness, water temperature, the type and amount of vegetation to be controlled, and the amount of water flow must be considered in using this product to control algae. Begin treatment soon after plant growth has started. If treatment is delayed until a large amount of algae is present, larger quantities of this product will be required. Generally, larger quantities of this product will also be required to control algae growth when water temperatures are low (below 60ºF), in hard water, and in water that is free flowing. If possible, curtail the flow of water before treatment and hold dormant for approximately three days after treatment, or until the algae have begun to die. For best results, treat algae on a sunny day when the heavy mats of filamentous algae are most likely to be floating on the surface, where it can be sprayed directly. When in doubt about the concentration required for control, first use the lower concentration. If needed, gradually increase to the higher concentration until the algae are killed."
