    Q
How can I control scorpions living in a mature pine tree located in my Arizona yard?
I've been using Cykick CS every 2-3 weeks and Bifen granules per instructions since April 2011. I go out each night with a black light and kill 6-15 scorpions (I initially killed 20+ per night so things have improved). They're in my yard, on the fences, sidewalks, and pool area. I kill 1 to 5 scorpions just crawling on this particular mature pine tree nightly which is why I believe it's infested. I appreciate any suggestions; the only other bugs I notice are ants.
    A
We would recommend spraying a wide swath of Cy-Kick CS around the base of the tree and then also thoroughly spraying several feet up the tree to help control the scorpions. We would further recommend looking at the reason the scorpions are so attracted to that particular tree. Is there a lot of mulch or rocks around the base that should be removed? Is there an insect population in that tree that the scorpions are feasting on? Are you watering your lawn near this tree too much? Is there leaf debris or piled up lumber near the tree? By looking at and modifying your property you can make it less favorable to scorpions. Scorpions are at any given place for three reasons: food, shelter and moisture. If you can remove or reduce any one of these needs you will reduce or eliminate the scorpions as well.

    Q
How much Cy-Kick CS do you use per gallon to kill scorpions?
    A

You normally mix Cy-Kick CS at the rate of 1-2 ounces per gallon of water, and each gallon you mix up will cover roughly 1000 sq/ft, depending on how heavy you wet the surface area.

    Q
Is it OK to spray an entire sidewalk with Cykick CS?
The product states to treat scorpions by spraying 6-10 feet away from foundation of home. I have a sidewalk that is 2 feet from the house, would it be OK to spray the entire sidewalk to coat with Cy-Kick?
    A
Cy-Kick CS can be applied to sidewalks per the product label: Other than applications to building foundations, all outdoor applications to impervious surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, patios, porches and structural surfaces (such as windows, doors and eaves) are limited to spot and Crack & Crevice applications only.

    Q
What is the coverage area for outside perimeter treatment with Cy-Kick CS?
1- How much product is needed for doing a perimeter treatment around an average (2000 sq ft single story) house? 2- For primarily ant control, how does this product compare to Termidor?
    A
Most all insecticides including Cy-Kick CS are labeled to be applied at a rate of 1 gallon per 1000 square feet.  Most homes usually take 2 gallons of solution to do a good outside perimeter treatment every 2 to 3 months.  So one bottle of Cy-Kick can easily last you a year and a half or more.  Termidor is considered to be the best ant treatment product on the market.  This is because Termidor does not kill the ants right away and the ants end up taking the Termidor back to the colony where it kills them at the source.  Cy-Kick CS will kill the ants much quicker, but the downside is the colony still marches on reproducing ants faster than you can kill them.  For all other insects, Cy-Kick CS would be considered to be better because you want other insects dead as quickly as possible, especially things like scorpions, which Cy-Kick CS is our best selling product for.

    Q
We have springtails coming out of the sink and bathtub in our apartment. Would you recommend Cy-Kick CS?
    A

Yes, Cy-Kick CS can be used indoors and outdoors for springtail control.  Spring tails can be tough to eliminate because they reproduce very quickly. In almost every case where people have spring tails they also have a moisture problem such as a leaking or sweating pipe, poor ventilation in their crawl space, lots of wet mulch right up next to their structure, etc. You must locate and correct the moisture problem to get rid of the spring tails, insecticides alone will not do the job. You may want to look over our article on How To Get Rid Of Springtails for more information on treating and preventing this pest.

    Q
I need a good preventative spay. What do you recommend?
I am looking for a good preventive spay for indoor and outdoor use, does not have to be the same product. No bug related issues, so just something to prevent any future problems. Amarillo Texas is in the top of Texas, we have a 3000 sq ft home. I have pump type 2 gallon sprayer.
    A
Cy-Kick CS is an ideal broad-spectrum insecticide for prevention, maintenance, or active infestations of over 55 common structural pests in residential and commercial applications. SmartCap Technology makes Cy-Kick CS ideal for a variety of surfaces, including porous and highly absorbent areas like concrete and mulch. SmartCap microencapsulation also increase the residual life of Cy-Kick CS to up to 90 days, making it ideal for quarterly pest control treatments. Because Cy-Kick CS is a microencapsulated suspension, it is more resilient in direct sunlight and more easily picked up by tough pests such as cockroaches, scorpions, and mosquitoes.

    Q
Will Cy-Kick CS work on spiral whitefly on palm trees safely?
    A
You will want to use a systemic insecticide such as Dominion 2L to control the whitefly. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the palm. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on palms for white fly.
