    Q
How much Cynoff should I use in a mix of water and honey if I need to bait carpenter ants?
I have carpenter ants in my ceiling and need to leave out bait for the worker ants to bring back to the colonies for the queen. I need the mixture to be effective but slow acting. What ratio should I use?
    A
Cynoff WP has been discontinued by the manufacturer. We would not recommend using products off label. For carpenter ants, you will mix 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. You will need to contact the manufacturer directly for any questions regarding how to make Cynoff WP into any kind of bait.

    Q
Is Cynoff WP safe to use on rose bushes without damaging the plant?
My rose bushes are being eaten by leaf cutter ants. Can I safely use Cynoff on them and if so, how often should I apply?
    A
Cynoff WP will kill leaf cutter ants that are directly contacted with the spray but will have no result on the ants that stay in the nest. Leaf cutter ants can be a difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies are large and the ants make their own food so poison baits only have limited effects on this species of ants. According to several university websites MaxForce Ant Bait Granules containing hydramethlynon are some what effective, though they will usually eliminate only about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and will need to be reapplied several times.  DeltaGard granules is one of the only products actually labeled for leaf cutter ants. The product label recommends treating the mound directly and lightly watering the granules in. Again it may take several treatments to get the desired results. We also recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations for products that have worked for other people in your region.

    Q
    Cynoff WP for sand hornets/wasps?
Will this product work effectively to treat sand wasps/hornets emerging from a lawn (above a sandy septic leach field)? Is there a more effective product your could recommend?
    A

Cynoff WP has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

A product that is labeled to be used in your lawn for hornets and wasps is Bifen I/T. It can be broadcast across the lawn as well as used inside around the cracks and crevices as well.

    Q
Beetles are killing our pine trees. Would Cynoff WP be effective if sprayed on the trees?
Even our felled trees, which my husband is turning into flag poles, have something boring outward. We have read that cypermethrin is best for these beetles. Is that the active ingredient in this product?
    A
Cypermethrin is the active ingredient in Cynoff WP.  Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a product called Dragnet. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations.

    Q
Will Cynoff WP kill cicada killer wasps?
(Please do not try to dissuade me, I don't care that they are non aggressive and I have been told that they don't attack. Not interested in living with them. Do not know exactly where nest is, will have to spray under porch area blindly. Is this the product to use? Also, does the Eco PCO Jet X can kill cicada killers?
    A
You are right, cicada killers are not known to sting and they are a very beneficial insect that kills other insects. Cynoff WP will kill cicada killers but you must treat each individual hole as these insects are solitary and do not live in the same nest. Eco PCO Jet X will kill just about any flying insect if they are hit with a direct spray. (Eco PCO Jet X is not currently available. We recommend Wasp Freeze as an alternative.)

I use red worms (eisenia foetida) in an indoor compost bin to convert food scraps to a natural fertilizer. Will Cynoff kill them if I use near the area where my composter is?

The red worms would actually have to come in contact with the Cynoff Wp for it to kill them.

    Q
    Will Cynoff WP kill bagworms?
i already bought cynoff wp to spray my house for spiders, and was hopfull it would work on bag worms in cedar trees
    A
Cynoff WP is not labeled for bagworm control. This is most likely because the product was mainly marketed for structural pests and was not tested for bagworm control. It is labeled for use on ornamental trees however so you could try it. We of course recommend using a product that is labeled for bagworms such as Talstar P. You can learn more about how to eliminate bagworms by reading our article Bagworm Control.

    Q
Will this product control caddisflies? Also, what effect does it have on plants?
    A
Cynoff WP should eliminate caddisflies that land on areas that have been treated with the product. Cynoff WP will not have any effect on the flies that do not actually land on the treated areas. Cynoff WP can be sprayed on most non edible vegetation but we recommend spraying it on a small inconspicuous area before treating all of the plants to be sure no burning will occur.

    Q
My Las Vegas home has wooden floors with concrete footings over a crawl space with a soft sand floor.
My Las Vegas home has wooden floors with concrete footings over a crawl space with a soft sand floor. What areas inside the crawl space should be treated for scorpions? Should I use liquid and/or powdered insecticide?
    A
A wettable powder insecticide such as Cynoff WP will do a great job for scorpion control. You should treat all around the base of your home's foundation, and you can also treat around the perimeter of the crawlspace, if needed. Be sure to spray in the areas where scorpions actually harbor, rock beds, garden areas, brick walls, under landscaping timbers, and also spray around the perimeter of your home.

    Q
Can I use Cynoff WP dry with a duster?
I have a jar of Cynoff WP that I use mixed with water in my tank sprayer. I have an application where I need to get to carpenter ants inside a wall. I was thinking of using this product dry with a duster. Seems like it would work?
    A
Cynoff WP can not be used dry as that is considered an off label use. Applying the Cynoff WP as a dust would likely mean you are over applying the dust to treated areas and could cause unsafe conditions. We do have many insecticide dusts available as well as the hand dusters needed to apply the dusts.

    Q
Will tomato or other crop plants absorb this through their roots?
Fire ants like to build nests up against my tomato plants or fruit bushes. If I break up the nest and spray with this thoroughly, will the plants absorb this into their system/fruit?
    A
Cynoff WP is not intended for use around edible vegetation and has not been tested to see if it can be translocated through the plants. You must keep applications of Cyper WP outside of the drip line of the root system of the tomato plants to insure safe applications. You can use fire ant bait in bait stations near the tomato plants to help with the current infestation.

    Q
Should I also spray Cynoff WP under the home?
The home is 100 years old, and the foundation is staggered brick with openings about 2" square.
    A
You can spray Cynoff WP under the home to achieve a clean out of the pests that currently harbor in that area. To help prevent future infestations of the home, apply to a band of soil and vegetation 6 to 10 feet wide around and adjacent to the home. Also, treat the home's foundation to a height of 2 to 3 feet where pests are active and may find entrance. Apply as a coarse spray to thoroughly and uniformly wet the band area, using 1 gallon of spray mix per 400 square feet.
