    Q
What do you recommend for leaf cutter ants?
    A
Leaf cutter ants can be a difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies are large and the ants make their own food so poison baits only have limited effects on this species of ants. According to several university websites Maxforce Complete Bait Granules containing hydramethylnon are some what effective, though they will usually eliminate only about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and will need to be reapplied several times.  Deltagard granules is one of the only products actually labeled for leaf cutter ants. The product label recommends treating the mound directly and lightly watering the granules in. Again it may take several treatments to get the desired results. We also recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations for products that have worked for other people in your region.

    Q
How long do we need to wait before the dogs can go back to the treated area after applying DeltaGard G Granules?
    A

Pets are permitted back in the treated area once dry, typically a few hours after application and you water in.  DeltaGard G Granules are a pet and children safe product when applied correctly because it is broadcast over lawn and garden areas and is applied in a small quantity.

    Q
I live in Lancaster, Pa. We have a problem with cockroaches. They are referred to as Asian water bugs.
Will DeltaGard G Granules take care of my problem with the cockroaches in my yard, around my patio, deck and in the mulch? Will all of the products in this category work on the roaches. Most of the reviews seem to be re: ants...
    A
DeltaGard G Granules is labeled for roaches and should work fine for controlling them. You would want to apply every 2 to 3 months and make sure you water in the granules for faster results once you apply it.  You can also apply before a rain event instead of watering the granules in yourself.

    Q
Are Deltagard G granules effective for a scorpion problem?
I have read on many forums that people combine cy-kick with delta granules for a scorpion problem. Do the granules work well?
    A
While Deltagard granules are not labeled to kill scorpions directly the product will help get rid of many other insects which the scorpions use as their food source. When the other insects are gone the scorpions will naturally find your property less favorable and will move on to better hunting grounds or face starvation. Cy-Kick CS on the other hand should be used as a barrier spray around your home and any scorpion that ventures onto the treated area will be killed. By using these two products together you will be putting together a strong scorpion control program. Controlling scorpions will require a combination of both chemical and non-chemical measures. Please take a few minutes to read our article Scorpion Control to learn more ways to make your property less favorable to scorpions.

    Q
Is Delta Guard a Bait for roaches?
    A
DeltaGard is not a bait, it is an insecticide granule that is broadcast outside and then watered in. DeltaGard is labeled to help control roaches that cross over areas that have been treated with the product. If you are looking for a bait granule for roaches you can use Advion Insect Granule Bait, Maxforce XComplete Granular Bait or Intice Fine Granular Bait.

    Q
How often to reapply DeltaGard to a lawn using a broascast spreader
I am unable to find how often DeltaGard G needs to be applied to a lawn. The bag says at least a week apart, but not how many applications are needed in a given season. I live in Houston, Texas.
    A
You would want to apply DeltaGard G Granules - 20 lb. bag every 2 to 3 months and make sure you water in the granules for faster results once you apply it.  You can also apply before a rain event instead of watering the granules in yourself.

    Q
Which granule is best for springtails?
The granules I've found on the site for springtails either have Lambda-cyhalothrin or Deltamethrin as an active ingredient. Which would be most effective for springtails?
    A
Both active ingredients would work very well for springtails. DeltaGard GDemand G and Talstar Granules each have synthetic pyrethroids as active ingredients and each would work very well for spring tails. Our most popular spring tail granule is Talstar.

    Q
What is best spider and mosquito killer?
I habe 10,000 sq ft yard - swimming pool but no other standing water - lots of spiders in pool in summer, jumping spiders etc can't enjoy a lie on a raft what kills them and large mosquito population as we live backed up to wooded area - what is best a. granular and b. liquid type applications to kill both these insects?
    A
DeltaGuard G Granules would be a great choice for outdoor perimeter or broadcast applications to control spiders along with many other insects. Also, Talstar P is the premier liquid concentrate for mosquito control. You would simply mix 1 oz of Talstar P per gallon of water and spray bushes, shrubs, and low lying tree branches paying close attention to the underside of the leaves. Both the DelatGuard G and Talstar P would be a great product to use in the areas you specified. Your are not spraying the water directly and only spraying around the plants, cracks and crevices. Run Off is not an issue as long the treated area is allowed to dry before rain. Such a small amount of active ingredient is left after dilution. Only enough to harm small insects. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
How to address digger bees? Our entire yard, about an acre, is infested with digger bees....thousands of holes. It has become a safety issue for kids and dogs. Any recommendations for a granular product for a large area?
    A
It sounds like they could possibly be Cicada Killers. To treat Cicada Killers, you can discourage the wasps from nesting in your yard by cutting your grass on the highest setting and by adding a thick layer of mulch to flower beds during the Cicada Killer Wasp season. These wasps do not like over saturated lawns either, so over watering during their season will help prevent them. Unfortunately, there is no fool proof way to prevent cicada killer wasps. Cicada Killer wasps thrive in disturbed environments, such as landscaped yards and places where bare soil is exposed.  For prevention, you can try to use a granular insecticide such as Talstar PL  Granules in the couple of weeks before this pest is known to emerge. For current infestations, you would need to use Delta dust in each individual burrow.

    Q
How far away from vegetables / nut/fruit trees do you have to be when applying DeltaGard G Granules?
    A
The manufacturer states that when applying DeltaGard G Granules, you should apply them at least 10 feet away from a garden or the root line of a fruit/nut bearing tree.  DeltaGard G Granules bonds to the top of the surface and will not get down in the roots, but 10 feet away is a good practice.

    Q
I raise caterpillars that eat Pipevine. My pest control guy laid Delta Gard around the perimeter (cont. below)
of my house and it got into the Pipevine, poisoning the caterpillars. My fault, I should have thought of this. My question is, how long before the ground and the Pipevine are safe again for caterpillars and insects?
    A
We do know that the residual of DeltaGard G Granules is 2-3 months. However, we recommend contacting Bayer 800-331-2867 to determine when it will be safe for the catepillars again.

    Q
Is DeltaGard G Granules effective for ticks? Can I use DeltaGard Granules inside?
    A

DeltaGard G Granules cannot be used indoors. Granule insecticides need to be watered in to be activated, something you would not be able to do in the house. Indoors you could use a product like Onslaught  or Tengard SFR to control ticks. DeltaGard G Granules can be used to help eliminate ticks outdoors. You can read how to properly apply DeltaGard G Granules for tick control on page 5 of the product label on our website.

  • Asked by Fred from Del Rio, Texas

    Q
We keep chickens for their eggs and our chickens eat pests in the yard we are treating.
We are primarily treating the yard because of ticks. If the chickens feed on the ticks and other pests from the treated yard, is it safe to eat the eggs or will the poison be transferred to the eggs we eat?
    A
Unless the chickens are consuming the DeltaGard G directly there should be no effect on the bird or their eggs.  You must make sure your chickens are out of the area while you apply DeltaGard G and then they can return to the area as soon as it is dry after irrigating the product in.

    Q
Should DeltaGard G Granules be used in a yard with no lawn?
My pest control service sprinkled the granules in perimeter ground cover and flower beds, but also throughout the rocks that replaced our lawn. This area does not get watered. Will it still be safe for pets?
    A

DeltaGard G Granules can be applied in other areas besides lawn areas. Watering in the product will activate the active ingredient. It will not harm pets that enter the treated area. In the areas that are initially watered in, you would want to keep the pets our of until dried.

    Q
What will treat my yard for roaches?
    I have cats outside -
    A

Outdoor roach control can be difficult because of the moist conditions in your yard will always attract more roaches from surrounding areas. You can apply a granular insecticide like DeltaGard G Granules to help control the roaches in your yard. This product can be broadcast across your lawn and be sure to water in the granules. This product is pet safe, but pets should remain out of the treatment areas until completely dry.

    Will DeltaGuard eradicate Bermudagrass mites?
I'm having difficulty finding any product that will kill or even control Bermudagrass mites. I have an area in my back yard that has the tell-tale “witches brooms” and the grass in those areas is thin and not thriving.
    A

Deltamethrin, the active ingredient in DeltaGard G Granules has been shown to treat for Bermudagrass mites. Take a look at the article by the University of California Extension office that may help with some more information.
