How Demon WP Insecticide Works

Demon WP is a residual insecticide concentrate with the active ingredient Cypermethrin. Cypermethrin is in the synthetic pyrethroid class of insecticides. It is a man-made active ingredient that attacks the central nervous system of insects that come in contact with or ingest it. Demon WP is diluted with water and applied with a gallon pump sprayer. After it dries, Demon WP continues to work for up to 3 months.

Demon WP Target Pests

A variety of crawling and flying pests including (but not limited to) ants, boxelder bugs, cockroaches, crickets, earwigs, scorpions, spiders, and wasps

PESTS CONTROLLED WITH THIS PRODUCT: Ants, Aphids, Assassin Bugs, Bees, Boxelder Bugs, California Oakworm, Carpenter Ants, Carpenter Bees, Centipedes, Chiggers, Chinch Bugs, Cluster Flies, Cockroaches, Crickets, Earwigs, Elm Leaf Beetle, Fire Ants (Mounds), Firebrats, Fleas, Flies, Millipedes, Mites, Mosquitoes, Pillbugs, Scorpions, Silverfish, Sod Webworms, Sowbugs, Spiders, Termites (above ground only), Ticks, Wasps

Target Uses of Demon WP

Demon WP (Water-soluble Packets) Insecticide is for crack and crevice and/or spot applications for residual and contact control of Ants, Carpenter Ants, Cockroaches, Crickets, Spiders and certain other insect pests. The Demon WP water-soluble packets make mixing and use very easy when used with a 1 gallon compressed air sprayer. (See our selection of sprayers in our Sprayers section).

Demon WP (Wettable Powder) is excellent for larger, tougher pests such as cockroaches, spiders, scorpions, or stink bugs because there is a high concentration of active ingredient. Demon WP is labeled for a wide variety of pests, however, making it an extremely popular general use insecticide for perimeter treatments outdoors or crack and crevice treatments indoors.

The wettable powder formulation also makes Demon WP ideal for porous surfaces such as concrete since the individual particles of active ingredient are larger and can more easily stay on top of the surface.

Demon WP leaves a white powdery film that may be visible on darker surfaces. For applications where this is a concern, consider using a liquid concentrate instead.

Demon WP Insecticide Application Instructions

Each foil envelope of Demon WP Insecticide in Water-Soluble Packets contains four water-soluble packets of Demon wettable powder (WP). The foil envelope must be opened for use. Because water-soluble packets readily dissolve in the presence of moisture, do not allow them to get wet before adding to the applicator tank.

Wear dry gloves when handling the water-soluble packets. Handle with care because excessive handling may cause rupture of the water-soluble packet. Unused water-soluble packets should be stored in the original foil envelope, folded over to minimize exposure to moisture.

Demon WP Insecticide in Water-Soluble Packets are intended for dilution with water for applications. For best results, dilution should be achieved if the following steps are taken:

  1. Fill applicator tank 1/2 with water.
  2. Add desired Demon WP Insecticide in Water-Soluble Packet(s).
  3. Allow 1-2 minutes for dissolution of water-soluble packet(s).
  4. Agitate, stir or shake applicator tank.
  5. Finish filling applicator tank and agitate again before use to ensure satisfactory suspension.

Note:

  • Upon standing without agitation for more than 1 hr., the applicator tank should be agitated, stirred or shaken again to achieve satisfactory suspension.
  • Make up only amount of application volume as required.
  • This product should not be applied with oil.

Tank Mixing

Demon WP in Water-Soluble Packets may be tank mixed with other currently registered pesticides unless expressly prohibited by the product label. A small volume mixing test with the other products is recommended to ensure compatibility. Observe all restrictions and precautions which appear on the labels of these products.

* Repeat treatments as necessary, but not more than once every 7 days.

1 envelope contains 4 water-soluble packets and makes 2-4 gallons of finished solution.

Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios for Demon WP:

  • 1 packet or 1 scoop (0.33 oz.)/gal. of water – 0.1% – maintenance, more frequent applications, foliar applications
  • 2 packets or 2 scoops (0.66 oz.)/gal. of water – 0.2% -- clean-out, severe infestations, exterior applications which receive greater direct sunlight, scorpions
  • For Perimeter Barrier Applications around Structures – Mix 1-2 scoops of Demon WP in 1-5 gallons of water to cover 800-1600 square feet. Higher volumes may be needed for dense vegetation or landscaping materials.

Demon WP is for use in the following areas:

Demon WP is for crack and crevice or spot treatment for residual and contact pest control in, on and around buildings and structures and their immediate surroundings and on modes of transport. Permitted areas of use include, but are not limited to, industrial buildings, houses, apartment buildings, laboratories, buses, greenhouses and the nonfood/feed areas of stores, warehouses, vessels, railcars, trucks, trailers, aircraft (cargo and noncabin areas only), schools, nursing homes, hospitals (non-patient areas), restaurants, hotels and motels, and food manufacturing, processing and servicing establishments, food granaries, food grain mills, and pet kennels. Demon WP is also for use on lawns, ornamental trees and shrubs around residential, institutional, public, commercial, agricultural and industrial buildings, and parks, recreational areas and athletic fields.

Indoors

See above for complete mixing instructions.

Cockroaches, Spiders, Crickets, Scorpions, Silverfish, Ticks and Firebrats
Apply as a coarse, low pressure treatment to areas where these pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, behind and under refrigerators, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices; also see Outdoor Surface Use on the product label.

Ants
Apply Demon WP to any trails, around doors and windows and similar areas where ants (including carpenter ants) may be found. Apply perimeter barrier treatments to prevent infestation as described below; also see Outdoor Surface Use on the product label.

Bees, Carpenter Bees and Wasps
Thoroughly treat nest and entrance, surfaces and surrounding areas with Demon WP where these insects alight; also see Outdoor Surface Use on the product label.

Assassin Bugs, Boxelder Bugs, Sowbugs, Pillbugs, Millipedes, Elm Leaf Beetle and Centipedes
Apply around doors and windows and similar areas where these, or similar perimeter pests, may be found or where they may enter premises. Apply to baseboards, storage areas, and other locations.

Outdoors

See above for complete mixing instructions.

For Perimeter Barrier Treatments

To help prevent infestation of buildings, apply to a band of soil and vegetation 6-10 ft. wide around and adjacent to the building. Also, treat the building foundation to a height of 2-3 ft. where pests are active and may find entrance. Apply as a coarse spray treatment to thoroughly and uniformly wet the foundation and/or band area, using 1-5 gals. of treatment solution applied to 800-1600 sq. ft.

Outdoor Surfaces

Apply with either hand-held or power application equipment as a residual spray to surfaces of buildings, porches, screens, window frames, eaves, patios, lawns, refuse dumps, garages and other similar areas where these pests are found. Also, may be used as a spot treatment in applications to lawns in landscaped areas in and around residential, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings, and similar areas where these insect pests are active.

Fire Ants (Mounds)

For individual fire ant mounds, apply Demon WP as a drench. Gently sprinkle a total of one gallon over the surface of mounds up to 12 inches in diameter. Use 2 gallons for larger mounds. Thoroughly wet mound and surrounding area. Treat new mounds as they appear. Pressurized sprays may disturb the ants and cause migration. If possible, applications should be made on warm days after recent rainfall. All colonies in the vicinity should be treated, including those that have not yet constructed a mound.

Scorpions

Treat and remove accumulations of lumber, firewood and other materials that serve as harborage sites. Apply as a coarse spray treatment to the point of drip.

  • Demon WP is not appropriate for applications using a hose-end sprayer.
  • See product label for complete outdoor application instructions.

Demon WP Insecticide Features

  • Water-soluble packets are convenient and simple to use.
  • Pet safe after dry, when used as directed.

Extra Tips

  • Some settling may occur after tank mixing Demon WP. Be sure to agitate the tank after resting, and only mix the amount of product you intend to use within 24 hours.
  • Store concentrate out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures for maximum shelf life of 3+ years.
  • Not labeled for use on edible plants.
  • Exposure to direct sunlight will break down residual more quickly, so applications may need to be made more frequently in these areas.
  • Repeat treatments as necessary, but not more than once every 7 days.
  • Demon WP is not suitable as a space spray with equipment such as misters, foggers, or aerosol equipment. The product will clog or damage the equipment and is not labeled for this use.

    Phenomenal Product

    By Matt on 06/02/2009

Excellent product. I have been using Demon WP Insecticide for MANY years mostly for exterior barrier treatment and in and around garages. I was very impressed. I will never forget the first time I used this product. I sprayed a heavy line in front of our 3 car garage which was getting bombarded by all kinds of crawling insects. It created about a 10-12" line on a hot & sunny day and it dried very quickly. I did it a second time thinking it evaporated, again it dried within a few mins. Came home from work the next day and a solid line of dead bugs exactly where I sprayed. Was as if it was an invisible electric fence. At this point I was sold on this and nothing else. I have continued to use it for years without fail. I found it lasts quite a while but depends on how much direct rain the treated surface area gets. Recommend 100%

    Awesome

    By George on 03/22/2009

"It just works" says it all. I have been using Demon WP Insecticide for 10 years. Forget what you read about multiple applications per year. Maybe outside, but inside, unless you wash or vacuum it away, it lasts forever. I haven't used it in 2 years indoors and it's still killing. I thought, after two years, though, another application couldn't hurt. The first time you use it, when you wake up the next morning, you will be in awe of the dead insects in your house. Just do every base board, even in cabinets and closets and every threshold into your house, garage, carport, etc...threshold exteriors need to be repeated if exposed to the elements. This stuff is the last word in pest control. Don't waste your money on supermarket and building supply store junk and pest control companies that come out and use this same stuff, and bill you $250.

    This stuff is awesome!

    By Kevin on 08/28/2007

I have 2 large dogs in my house. Had fleas really bad. I tried every type of bug bomb- Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart had and it seemed like they multiplied. My parents turned me on to this product Demon WP. I sprayed my baseboards, windows, doors, weep holes in the brick, the entire perimeter of the house, the soffit on the house, and the perimeter of my yard. After all that, I still had 2 pouches left, so I went ahead and sprayed my lawn. I have not seen another live bug in the house for 2 years. I may not have applied it the way I'm supposed to, but this stuff is awesome. Highly recommended.

Great product!!  I've been using this product for 2 years and living by the ocean, we have our fair share of palmetto bugs, roaches and every crawly bug known to man. Demon WP keeps the house insect-free and considering I have a bug phobia, this means a great deal knowing that there aren't any unwelcome pests crawling around our home. Anyone having a problem with bugs should try this product...you'll be glad you did!!

Q
How long until the Demon WP spray starts working?

I've only seen 2 dead roaches 5 hours after spraying Demon WP everywhere. One still alive and well in my dishwasher. They seem to like being in the dishwasher. How long is it supposed to take to kill the roaches? I am super neat and clean everything in sealed tight plastic baggies. All food is in baggies and in the refrigerator and the freezer. I sprayed everywhere even a little in inside wall plug ins. I sprayed in all holes, crevices, any small crack and crevice. How can they survive in my dishwasher? Yes, I sprayed in there too I couldn't stand it anymore. I sprayed under the dishwasher too. Pulled out refrigerator sprayed all over and under the stove. Shouldn't I see a lot of dead roaches by now? I sprayed at 11am today. Whats going on? I used 2 packets for one gallon of water. What's the story here?

A
Demon WP does not provide an instant knockdown of insects even if the insects are sprayed directly. You will see results over the next couple of days as the roaches come into contact with the treated areas and receive a lethal dose of the insecticide and they then succumb to the effects of the product. It is very important that you read and follow the product label to avoid contaminating sensitive areas. You can use a high quality roach bait gel such as the Advion Roach Bait Gel to treat areas where spraying would not be appropriate (counter tops, cabinets, drawers). The roaches will consume the bait and then go back to their nesting area and spread the bait which will help eliminate the roaches more quickly than spraying insecticides and IGRs alone. Getting rid of roaches is not a process that only takes only a few hours. Moderate roach infestations can take a few weeks to get rid of and severe infestations can take several months even when using all of the products needed (insecticide, IGR, roach bait) and sanitation is up to par.

Q
How long does Demon WP take to kill German roaches?

I have been spraying Demon WP (every weekend) for a month now. There are less and less roaches. Now, I am just wondering how it works on them. Are they still able to lay eggs?

A
You should not need to spray indoors more than once a month for roach control if you are using Demon WP. Using Demon WP alone will not stop roaches from breeding and laying eggs. We recommend that you use an IGR (insect growth regulator) such as Gentrol to help stop juvenile roaches from reaching sexual maturity. We also recommend that you use a roach bait gel such as Advion Roach Bait Gel in cabinets, around counter tops, in drawers and around appliances to get rid of the roaches that hide in places that cannot be sprayed. By using all three products together, you will have a roach control program that will effectively get rid of your roach infestation. We offer all three products together in our Roach Control Kit #2. How long it will take to get rid of the infestation will depend on how heavy the infestation is and how good the sanitation is in your home. You can expect it to take 6 weeks to several months.

Q
Will demon wp kill or deter lizards and geckos?
A
As long as the geckos and lizards are out of the area while you are doing the actual application of the Demon WP it shouldn't effect them. You will most likely see a reduction in the gecko and lizard populations on your property though as you will be eliminating their food source (insects).

Q
How long does Demon WP take to kill a fly if it perched on a sprayed surface?

if a fly perch on a sprayed surface that has been treated or sprayed with demon wp,how long will it take for the fly to die?

A

Depending on the size and health of the fly and the amount of Demon WP it contacts, it generally would take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours for an insect like a fly to die after contacting an area treated with Demon WP. For a very quick kill for flying insects, we recommend Maxforce Fly Spot Bait or Alpine Pressurized Fly Bait.

Q
What is the residual effect of Demon on coastal grass?

I would like to spray 45 acres for termite treatment and grasshoppers. How long should I wait before grazing cattle on the treated field?

A
Demon WP Insecticide is not labeled to be applied to areas where animals graze. To answer your question the residual of Demon Wp is 30 days. We recommend contacting your Local Cooperative Extension Office to find out what product would be safe and effective for you to use in your area. Once you have been given a recommendation, we can be sure to ship those products to you.

Q
I used DemonMax for ticks in my house - cracks, floorboards, etc. why am I still seeing tiny ticks!

I used 1oz for a gallon of water and added a growth regulator. I sprayed every room after vacuuming and carpet cleaning. I washed my dogs with a tick shampoo and I sprayed my couch as well....why are they still here? Will this product work?

A
How long it takes the ticks to die after they come into contact with a treated area will depend on a number of factors. It will depend on the maturity of the tick as well as how long they stayed on the treated area, how long it has been since the area was treated and the concentration that was used to treat the area. Demon Max is a great product for tick control - and you used the correct dosage. Typically it can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a day or so for them to die. It can take several weeks for you to stop seeing ticks indoors because the ticks like to stay hidden which also means they could be staying out of treated areas and eggs may hatch out prolonging the infestation. We recommend doing follow up treatments every two weeks at the highest usage rate of 1 oz of product per gallon of water until you do not see any ticks.
