    Q
Can you tell me if the grass/plants/ have to be watered down before I apply D-Fense SC with a sprayer?
    A

The grass and plants do not have to be watered down prior to applying the D-Fense SC solution for most applications. Depending on the insect you are treating for some you should irrigate before treatment and some you shouldnt. If it's a lawn infesting pest like mole crickets or chinch bugs, it helps get the product to the level of the insects in the lawn by irrigating first to pull them closer to the surface. Irrigating after spraying will only wash the product away. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Mike from Gilbert, Az

    Q
Can D-Fense SC be mixed with Transport Mikron and sprayed at the same time?
My old pest control company used this and Transport Mikron for most effective control (according to them). I'm assuming its ok to mix the two products and spray at the same time?
    A

No, it is not necessary to mix two products, such as D-Fense SC and Transport Mikron together when spraying. Mixing two products together has the potential to build up a resistant to them more quickly. These products can be used in a rotation with each other. If you are wanting to use a product to enhance the effectiveness of your products, we would recommend using Exciter. This is a synergist that provides a knockdown and Transport Mikron or D-Fense SC will provide the residual effects.

  • Asked by Kolly from Arizona
    10/07/2015
    Q
Is Demand CS or D-Fense SC better for scorpions?
Deltamethrin (Defense SC) or Lambda-cyhalothrin 9.7% (Demand CS)
    A

Both D-Fense SC and Demand CS are labeled for scorpions. Generally speaking, scorpions are drawn to dry areas, and their main sources of food are usually small insects such as crickets and spiders. Keeping your home free of these insects will make it much less likely that scorpions will be a problem, so general pest control is always advisable. If they do get into your home, they are usually found in secluded dry areas such as closets and garages. They have also been known to hide in piles of clothes, particularly ones that have not been moved recently. Eliminating these hiding spaces will go a long way in making your other control efforts more effective.

  • Asked by Jeanne from Fl
    12/16/2017
    Q
How do I measure out D-Fense SC from the bottle?
Do I open the cap on the long throat to get product to flow to short measuring cup then replace it to pour into mixing container? Since it is so in need of care, I am cautious about trying without knowing method. All instructions on mixing and application not on showing how to get it out of bottle
    A

The D-Fense SC has two pour spouts because one is for measuring. You squeeze the bottom of the bottle and the product will go up the straw on the side and into the measuring cup to be mixed. Then you just need to use the cap on the small reservoir side to dispense the product. The cap on the other side is more for professionals who are mixing larger tanks of product to do many treatments or high-volume treatments. For general maintanance, you will use 0.25 fl. oz. of D-Fense SC per gallon of water. This can be sprayed every 21 days. Be sure to remove any children and pets from the area you are treating until the product has had time to dry.

  • Asked by Patrick from Phoenix, Az
    06/04/2018
    Q
Will D-Fense SC break down more quickly in the hot, intense sun in Phoenix during summer?
    A

D-Fense SC can break down easier in direct sunlight than micro-encapsulated or polymer-coated insecticides like Suspend Polyzone. D-Fense SC has an outdoor residual of 30 days where Suspend Polyzone can last up to 90 days outdoors.

  • Asked by Theresa from Seattle, Wa
    04/14/2016
    Q
How long does D-Fense SC last after mixing? Can I use NyGard in it?
Hello, I left a long message yesterday but I can't find a reply. I mixed the SC Defense two nights ago with NyGard. Is it still good to use? Will either one or both still work? Also, there are black carpet beetles in the asphalt composite right outside where my garage door closes - the entire length of the garage door. Same thing with my back door - just to the left of the garage door but about a foot higher. What should I use to treat this? Is it worth it to find the nest(s). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Theresa
    A

D-Fense SC should be used within 24 hours of mixing. Nyguard IGR can be mixed with this product. We would not recommend using the mixed solution after 24 hours. We would recommend mixing up another batch to get the best results possible.

  • Asked by Michele from Wheelersburg, Oh
    05/10/2018
    Q
How long does it take to get rid of bedbugs using D-Fense SC?
    A

While D-Fense SC is labeled for bed bugs, bed bug control has much better success if you use a variety of products. We would suggest using one of our Bed Bug Kits to ensure that you have everything you need for a complete treatment.  How long it takes to get rid of bed bugs will depend on the level of infestation you are dealing with.  It is recommended that you treat every 7-10 days until you have gone a full 30 days with no new bites or signs of bed bug activity.  You may want to look over our Bed Bug Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing this pest.

    Q
If the D-Fense SC is mixed already for 2 days is it still good?
    A

Unfortunately the D-Fense SC? should be used within 24 hours of mixing. Any insecticide concentrate you use including D-Fense SC you will only want to mix up how much product you plan to use at a time.

  • Asked by Tex from Iowa
    09/25/2017
    Q
Will D-Fense SC kill hide beetle larvae?
Will this kill Hide beetle larvae?
    A

D-Fense SC is an insecticide that will kill adult beetles. You can add an Insect Growth Regulator that is labeled for Dermestid beetles such as Gentrol IGR Concentrate to your D-Fense SC solution to help control the immature stages of these and other listed insects. Be sure you are removing any infested items and cleaning the area thoroughly before applying insecticides.

  • Asked by Jeff from Fair Oaks, Ca
    06/03/2021
    Q
D-Fense SC no comparison to Suspend SC - why?
I've been using Suspend SC for several years with much success. I saw the cheaper "generic" version and gave D-Fense a try. I applied in same manner/mixture as I've been applying Supsend for years. I've never seen more ants. It worked more like a fertilizer! No idea why but the price difference is not that much so I'll go back to Suspend unless you have any advice.
    A

D-Fense SC and Suspend SC contain the exact same active ingredient. Therefore they are the same product. We suggest alternating your chemical every few years to prevent resistance buildup which could be happening in your case. The each only kill the insects that contact a treated area as well. We would recommend reviewing our ant guide here to help eliminate them more effectively.

  • Asked by David from Orange City, Fl (central Florida)

    Q
Maintenance recommendation of D-Fense SC is 21 days; this seems impractical to me?
Can I increase the strength of spray mixture to 1 oz. per gallon, and increase the spray interval? Any recommendations? A maintenance interval for our home of 6 months has been successful in the past. Thank you.
    A

D-Fence SC states on the label you can use up to 1.5 oz per gallon when treating a severe pest infestation or when longer residual is desired. Please refer to label for application details.

  • Asked by Bill from Haymarket, Virginia
    05/31/2019
    Q
Does D-Fense SC kill red spider mites? They are all over my deck.
    A

D-Fense SC is only labeled to control spider mites inside.  Bifen IT would be a better option.  You can spray around the perimeter of the deck as well as the edges and all plants/grass around the area.

  • Asked by Bob from Orange Park, Fl
    03/18/2019
    Q
Why the restriction on broadcast treatments to floors or floor coverings with D Fense SC?
I treat the perimeter of my rooms with both carpet and tile for fleas and spray several inches up the wall and onto the floors. Why shouldn't I spray the rest of the floor?
    A

D-Fense SC has only been tested and approved for crack and crevice applications inside.  It would not be safe to apply as a broadcast to carpets where it would come into prolonged skin contact.  For inside treatments of active flea infestations, Onlsaught would be a better option.  Please take a moment to look over our Flea Control Guide for more treatment tips and information.

  • Asked by Ed from Folkston, Ga
    04/12/2016
    Q
Is there a poison or deterrent I can mix with exterior paint to deter Borer Bees in SE GA?
I used to mix my own boat bottom paint many moons ago to deter underwater growth while the boat sat at the dock. I have a huge problem with the big Boarer Bees drilling 3/8" holes in my Pole Barn rafters. Is there a poison or deterrent I can mix with exterior latex and paint on these beams to stop this problem. The bees drill/eat/nest in pressure treated wood and I have heard the only way to stop it partially is by heavy painting. I am extending the Pole Barn and would like to spray the beams and rafters before install. Can you recommend anything I can add to my paint. I can spray with a full face respirator, no one can reach the beams after install, and there are no children around.
    A

D-FENSE SC may be mixed with latex coatings and oilbased coatings such as stains, varnishes and sealers for use to kill crawling and flying insects when exposed to treated surfaces.  Please see our Carpenter Bee Treatment article for more information about treating for this pest.

  • Asked by John from Westfield
    11/06/2018
    Q
How dangerous is is D-Fense SC towards the environment? What is a safe distance for a pond near your home for you to be able to apply D-Fense SC without contaminating the water.
    A

D-Fense SC is safe if used as directed.  We do not recommend applying within 25 ft of a pond as it is toxic to aquatic life. It is safe to apply and allow to fully dry prior to the rentry of anyone including children and pets. Only the applicator should be present during the treatment. It should be applied 15 ft away from edible trees and gardens.
