    Q
Can I apply Dimension and Spectracide or other 2,4-d product simultaneously?
I would traditionally apply Spectracide Weed Stop for my spring weeds. Can I apply Dimension 2EW at the same time, possibly even mixed? I don't believe Dimension runs a risk of stressing the lawn, but I wasn't sure if this would be too much.
    A
We are unfamiliar with the Spectracide product so we are not sure if this application would be okay. We recommend contacting the Dimension manufacturer directly for more information. You can reach Dow by calling 800-992-5994.

  • Asked by Manny from Escondido, Ca

    Q
I planted Tall Fescue seed this last April (Late) and had nice looking yards in front and back.
However, the crabgrass and other weeds took over. I waited until the yard got established (28 days) to start spraying and killing! I used 2,4D and have been using Drive XLR8 to kill the crabgrass. Now I have about half a lawn left! I live in San Diego inland Climate 10 where it gets in the low 90s some summer days. Usually in the mid 80s. I want to overseed the tall fescue this fall (Fall is the best time to plant fescue and other cool season grass) but I want to apply a crabgrass pre emergent. When would you suggest I treat for crabgrass and plant my seed? I plan on seeding mid to late October. Thanx for your help!
    A

    According to the product label:

    Reseeding, Overseeding, or Sprigging
Reseeding, overseeding, or sprigging of treated areas within 3 months after a single application of this product, or within 4 months after a split application program totaling more than 0.73 oz per 1000 sq ft (2 pints per acre), may inhibit the establishment of desirable turfgrasses.
    Late Summer or Fall Application:
This product can also be applied in the late summer or early fall (late August through November) at the Program 3 use rates listed in the table below. A fall application followed
by an appropriately timed spring application provides season-long weed control. Do not exceed the maximum use rate per year. For Poa annua control see Section titled “Poa annua (Annual Bluegrass) Control” below.
    Program 3:
Use Program 3 for preemergence control in turf: (a) where turfgrass is cut relatively low (e.g., golf fairways); and (b) where turf maintenance or weed control was not conducted during the previous year. This program provides 4 to 6 months of preemergence crabgrass control and may also be used for early postemergence control up to crabgrass tillering at sites where turfgrass is cut relatively low (e.g., golf fairways). Make subsequent, sequential pre and/or postemergence applications where longer periods of control are desired. Split applications may also be made, with the rates in the Use Rates table being split across two
applications made 5 to 10 weeks apart. Split applications may provide improved weed control.

  • Asked by Jeff from Az

    Q
Can pets be exposed to treated areas with Dimension 2EW after it rains?
You mention it is safe to allow pets in the yard after Dimension dries. Was this referring to the initial application of the herbicide/water mixture and not the equivalent of 1/2" of rain required to activate/spread the herbicide? In other words, should animals be kept away from the yard until after the "soaking process" has dried out. This would seem to take a few days possibly. BTW, thanks for all these Q and As; very helpful.
    A
The pets need to be off the lawn after the initial application of Dimension 2EW until the product completely dries. After the first initial rainfall dries, the pets can re-enter the treated areas also. After that the product will not reactivate. Please let us know if you need anything else.

    Q
I have two large inclined retaining walls in my backyard. I presume I can use this product to prevent weeds
    A
Dimension 2EW would be a great pre emergent to use around the retaining wall. Please be sure to check the label to make sure any desirable turf would not be harmed.

  • Asked by Tom from Hatford, Ct
    06/09/2014
    Q
Can I apply dimension at the same time as broadleaf weed killer 2, 4 D?
    A
Dimension 2EW is a pre-emergent and an early post-emergent for different weeds. This should be used before the weeds emergence and for early emergence of others. The Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is a post emergent. This means it is used when the weeds have already emerged. Using them together will not effective.

  • Asked by Jeremiah from Mn

    Q
I have Surflan - it works on a lot in my landscaping, but dandelions and thistles are driving me crazy. Does Dimension handle them and if not what do you suggest?
    A
Dimension 2EW is also a pre-emergent herbicide like Surflan. Dimension 2EW is not specifically labeled for thistles and dandelion. Please click on the link for more information on treating these. If they are actively growing, you will want to apply a selective post-emergent herbicide. Battleship III is our most popular selective herbicide. The advanced "three-way" formulation contains Triclopyr, Fluroxypyr and MCPA in an easy-to-use liquid formulation. Battleship III controls annual and perennial broadleaf weeds including Dandelion, Chickweed, Black Medic, Knotweed, Plantain, Oxalis, Clover, Cocklebur, Thistle and many other species. Please refer to the product label to ensure it is safe to apply to your species of turfgrass.

    Q
How soon can you reseed Fescue after using Dimension 2EW Herbicide
    A

After application of Dimension 2EW Herbicide, you can reseed 3-4 months after application. Per label:

    Q
In Indiana, what best time use Dimension to control speedwell and chickweed in bluegrass lawn?
    A

Pre-emergents like Dimension 2EW should be used before the weeds germinate in the fall time. We would recommend checking with a local master gardener in your area to give you an exact time. Here is the link:

  • Asked by Randy from Jacksonville, Fl
    01/08/2015
    Q
If I plan to resod and entire lawn with St. Augustine how long after application of Dimension must I wait to
lay down the new sod? Last season the lawn was destroyed as a rental and was heavily covered with mature crabgrass and has been so for two seasons. Currently it is bare dirt and in the process of tilling in Black Cow for nutrient value. I would like to get the grass down as soon as possible. What are your recommendations? Would it be best to just get the sod down, and treat next dormant season after the lawn is established and hope for the best?
    A
Dimension 2EW is not labeled for residential lawns prior to plugging or sodding for pre-emergent control. It would be best for you to put the sod down first and then use a pre-emergent next year.

  • Asked by John from Houston, Tx

    Q
Dimension 2EW and Gallery 75 DF mixing instructions
I am going to mix both Dimension 2EW and Gallery 75 DF in a Chapin 61900 backpack sprayer and use on my Houston, Tx St Augustine grass. I am following 2EW program 1 - 0.55oz and I think if I am reading correctly 0.50oz of Gallery 75 per 1000 sqft. (that sure does not like much at all). Do I use the recommended amounts from both labels since I am mixing the 2 together? Also after the I apply this on Feb 1 how soon can I reapply again? I have crabgrass, clover and spurge in my yard.
    A

Yes, you will mix the amounts as specified on the label. It does not sound like a lot, but it is enough product to treat the area in at least two gallons of water.

Re-applications and timing will depend specifically on what program you choose to use. Please review page 4 of the product label to determine the program that will best suit your needs for Dimension 2EW. The same will go with Gallery 75.

  • Asked by Mike from Tri-cities, Wa
    02/16/2015
    Q
How soon can I replant a tree after a pre-emergent application with Dimension 2EW?
I plan to plant nursery trees this spring, but after an application of Dimension 2EW has taken place. How long should I wait before planting?
    A
Dimension 2EW is labeled to be used over the top of ornamental plantings so while it would not harm the trees if applied before planting you would be disturbing the soil barrier that Dimesion creates if planting after application and it may be as effective as it should be.  It would be best to apply after you have planted the nursery trees.

  • Asked by Chip from Bokchito, Ok
    05/13/2015
    Q
Would this be used as a fall pre-emergent?
Most of the information pertains to applying it at the correct time in the spring. Would this be an effective fall pre-emergent for southern Oklahoma pasture land or is the spring application all that is needed? Is there a better product for fall application?
    A
Dimension 2EW can be used as a pre-emergent treatment in early spring, summer, late summer and fall. When you do your applications will depend on what you are treating for. Please refer to the label for Dimenison 2EW to check the plans and rotation for specific weeds.

  • Asked by Dave from Bandon, Or
    05/25/2017
    Q
Will Dimension 2EW Herbicide kill/control annual bluegrass in an established lawn?
Lawn is in southwest Oregon, not sure of the seed mix, probably fescue, Kentucky bluegrass etc. Poa annua is gradually spreading in 3 year old lawn. I am looking for a post emergence product.
    A

Dimension 2EW Herbicide can be used to help prevent poa annua from emerging but will not effect any actively growing poa annua.   Most products that are labeled for poa annua cannot be used on KBG as they are both cool season bluegrass types. We recommend that you spot treat the poa annua using a non-selective herbicide such as GlyPhoSel Pro and then reseed the areas.

  • Asked by David from Ivor, Va
    07/22/2017
    Q
Can Dimension 2EW Herbicide be used on a Bermuda 419 lawn?
Treating approximately 15,000 sq feet and using a 2 gallon pump sprayer.
    A

Dimension 2EW Herbicide is a pre-emergent that is mixed at 0.28 - 0.73 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. depending on the target weeds. Please refer to the product label for application rates specific to your treatment.

The label states: Do not use on Tifgreen 328 hybrid Bermudagrass as undesirable turfgrass injury may result. Other common and hybrid Bermudagrass varieties have shown to be tolerant of Dimension 2EW.
