Does Sevin Lawn Insecticide Granules treat and kill tapeworms in the soil?

Answer:

Sevin Lawn Insecticide Granules is not specifically labeled to treat tapeworms nor are we aware of one on the market to treat for tapeworms in lawns. Tapeworms come from fleas carried by pets, rodents, and other wildlife therefore treating your lawn and surroundig areas to control the flea population, will help reduce the presence of tapeworms that can be picked up by household pets. Sevin Lawn Insect Granules are labeled for fleas at the rate of 4lbs per 1000 sq ft and water is required to activate the granules. Water the application with atleast ½ inch of irrigation or light rainfall.
Another popular treatment recommendation for fleas outdoors is using a liquid insecticide + IGR (Insect Growth Regulator). Liquids allow you to treat the exterior foundation, around windows, doors, under eaves of the roof but also landscape beds and spraying the foliage on shrubs, trees, bushes, flowers, etc and other areas where fleas will congregate, breed and rest.  Talstar P tank mixed with NyGuard IGR would be a great monthly treatment applciation using Talstar P at 1 fl oz  + 12ml of NyGuard IGR per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft of area.  Fleas like cool, damp and areas where there is moisture and shade. Focus on any areas of dense foliage and repeat applications of insecticides should be done every 30 days for active flea infestations.  For oral medication options, we recommend a monthly dewormer for tapeworms and also consulting with your Veternarian.
