Product Overview

For a more economical option of 2.15 gallon size, please check out Premise Pre-Construction Insecticide.

Dominion 2L is an excellent termiticide and insecticide used for subterranean, drywood, dampwood termites and carpenter ants that contains the exact same active ingredient and percentage as Premise 2 and I Maxx Pro 2F. Dominion 2L can be sprayed directly on an active termite infestation or poured into the ground around a home or building to protect against subterranean termites. Dominion 2L is also non-repellent, meaning that termites will crawl over the product without detecting it, and spread it to each other by touch and food sharing, eventually eliminating the entire infestation. Yields 50 gallons of finished solution per bottle.

How To Apply Dominion 2L Termiticide

How Dominion 2L Termiticide Works

Dominion 2L Termiticide/Insecticide is a versatile non-repellent liquid concentrate with the active ingredient Imidacloprid. Imidacloprid is in the class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, neuro-active insecticides that are modeled after nicotine. Imidacloprid works by disrupting inhibiting stimuli transmission within an insect’s nervous system. More specifically, imidacloprid blocks a certain type of neuronal pathways which are much more prevalent in insects than mammals.

Termites and ants do not detect Dominion 2L and pick up the active ingredient through contact and ingestion. Because the active ingredient works slowly, ants and termites continue their regular activity and pass the active ingredient throughout the colony through touching and food sharing, eventually eliminating the entire colony.

Dominion 2L also works as an insecticide for turf and ornamental pests. Dominion 2L works as a foliar spray, killing insects on contact, or as a systemic insecticide. As a drenching treatment, Dominion 2L works from the ground up, being absorbed through a plant’s root system and killing insects that feed on that plant, such as aphids and whiteflies, by ingestion.

Target Uses of Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate

Dominion 2L is a liquid concentrate termiticide and insecticide for use outdoors around residential and commercial structures. As a termiticide, Dominion 2L is extremely popular as a ground treatment, either pre-construction or post-construction trenching for the prevention and treatment of subterranean termites. Dominion 2L has the same ingredient as Premise 2 Termiticide, but at a much lower cost. Indoor applications of Dominion 2L are limited to spot treatments for live termite infestations.

Dominion 2L is also an excellent systemic insecticide for a variety of turf an ornamental pests. Dominion 2L can be applied as a foliar spray on ornamentals and turf, or as a soil drench or injection around trees and shrubs. Dominion 2L can also be used as part of ant management programs to control aphids, scale insects, mealybugs, and other sucking pests on ornamentals to limit the honeydew available as a food source for ant populations.

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate Application Instructions

For subterranean termite control, the purpose of chemical soil treatment is to establish a continuous chemical treated zone (horizontal and/or vertical) between the wood and other cellulose material in the structure and the termite colonies in the soil. Structures containing wells or cisterns within the foundation of the structure can only be treated using the treated backfill method. Using a 0.1% solution (0.6 fl. oz. per gallon of water), use 4 gallons of finished solution per 10 lineal feet of 6 in. by 6 in. trench around the structure. For soil treatments to be covered by concrete slab such as under carports, porches, or basement floors, apply at a rate of 1 gallon or sufficient volume of solution to accurately and uniformly cover 10 square feet.

See our article How to Do a Subterranean Termite Treatment for further details of trenching treatment.

Dominion 2L can be converted to a foam to treat voids or hollow block to create a continuous treated zone or to treat active infestations of subterranean termites in structures at expansion rates of 5:1, 10:1, or 20:1.

  • For carpenter ants, use 0.6 fl. oz. per gallon of water to treat around the perimeter of a structure, concentrating on areas where pests may enter the structure.
  • For turfgrass, make applications preceding or during the egg laying period of the target pest. Most favorable applications will be achieved when applications are made prior to egg hatch of the target pests, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient through the thatch. Do not make applications when turfgrass areas are waterlogged or the soil is saturated with water. Applications cannot exceed a total of 1.6 pints per acre per year.
  • For ornamental applications, the product must be placed where the growing portion of the target plant can absorb the active ingredient. The addition of a nitrogen containing fertilizer, where applicable, into the soil may enhance the uptake of Dominion 2L application can be made by foliar application or soil applications, including soil injection, drenches, and broadcast sprays.

* For soil drenching of trees and shrubs, use 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. per inch of trunk diameter or per foot of shrub height and apply through soil injection or soil drench.

Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios for Dominion 2L:

  • 0.3 fl. oz. (9 mL)/gal. of water – 0.05% - some termite treatments
  • 0.6 fl. oz. (17 mL)/gal. of water – 0.1% - most termite applications, perimeter treatment for carpenter ants
  • 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz. (14 to 17 mL) per 1,000 sq. ft. – 1.25 to 1.6 pt/Acre – Turf grass applications, ornamental broadcast applications, flowers and groundcovers – use highest rate for suppression of chinchbugs and mole crickets
  • 1.5 fl. oz. (45 mL) per 100 gal. of water or 6.0 fl. oz. per Acre – foliar applications to trees, shrubs and ornamentals
  • 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) per inch of trunk diameter or per foot of shrub height – soil injections/drench

Dominion 2L is for use in the following areas:

Termite treatments around structures and building construction; turfgrass (including sod farms), landscape ornamentals, fruit and nut trees (non-commercial), trees, shrubs, flowers and groundcovers, and interior plantscapes; turfgrass in home lawns, business and office complexes, shopping complexes, multi-family residential complexes, golf courses, airports, cemeteries, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and sod farms; in and around industrial and commercial buildings and residential areas: trees, shrubs, evergreens, flowers, foliage plants, groundcovers, interior plantscapes; state, national, and private wooded and forested areas (soil injection and soil drench applications); Pome Fruit trees: Apple, Crabapple, Loquat, Mayhaw, Pear, oriental Pear, Quince; Pecan trees; Grapes

Indoors

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate can only be used indoors for localized treatment of active termite infestations.

Outdoors

Perimeter Pest Control: Treat soil, turf, or ground cover adjacent to the structure where ants are trailing or may find food or harborage. Apply to flower, shrub or ornamental plant beds adjacent to the structure where ants may find food or storage. To control ants tunneling in soil apply a 0.05% to 0.1% solution as a drench or soil injection at intervals to establish a continuous treated zone. Treat along the edge of walls, driveways or other hard surfaces where ants are tunneling beneath the surface. Maximum application is once per month. Do not use against native or imported fire ants, pharaoh, or harvester ants.

Turfgrass: Apply Dominion 2L in sufficient water to provide adequate distribution in the treated area. Use equipment which will produce a uniform, coarse droplet spray, using a low pressure setting to eliminate off target drift. Do not apply through any irrigation equipment. Use 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz. per 1,000 square feet. For chinch bug suppression, apply 0.6 fl. oz. (17 mL) before hatching of the first instar nymphs. For best control, irrigation or rainfall should occur within 24 hours after application to move the active ingredient through the thatch. Avoid mowing are until after irrigation or rainfall.

Foliar applications: Use 1.5 fl. oz. per 100 gal. of water for foliar pests on trees, shrubs, flowers, groundcovers, etc. Begin applications before the onset of high pest populations and reapply as needed. For broadcast applications, use 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. Use enough water to mix the product and thoroughly apply to the treatment area. Do not use less than 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For best results, irrigate after application to incorporate Dominion 2L into the upper soil level.

Soil drench: For trees, use 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. per inch of trunk diameter (or per foot of shrub height for shrubs). Apply uniformly as a drench around the base of the tree in not less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone. For soil injection, Use enough water to mix the product and inject an equal amount of solution in each hole. Use low pressure and sufficient solution for distribution of the liquid into the treatment area. For best control, keep the treated area moist for 7 to 10 days. Do not use less than 4 holes per tree or shrub.

    Unsure at this time

    By Gary on 04/28/2011

    Verified Purchase

I had a major infestation of flying drone termites in my house. I trenched around my entire house 6-8" down and 4-5" away from foundation where I could and drilled a 1/2" hole 18" deep at the stoop and driveway every 10" and applied Dominion 2L at the rate shown for heavy infestation. I still had them in my house 5 days later though not as bad. I then went to the basement and exposed the exterior framing at the foundation and proceed to spray the BoraCare. 1/2 way through this process I found huge piles of dirt and trails a plenty underneath my front door. At this time I saturated the wood using the Dominion 2L. It is now over a week since then (2 weeks since treating outside) and I am still finding one or two termite upstairs everyday.

    Expert ResponseExpert response:
Dominion 2L is a non-repellent termiticide, meaning it does not kill the termites right away.  The product is a delayed kill so the termites above the ground have time to take the product back to the colony and the queen that is below ground.  This ensures that the colony is completely eliminated.  For this reason Dominion 2L and all other non-repellents including Termidor, take up to 90 days to kill a termite colony.  So it is normal to see activity for up to 90 days after treating your home.

    Dominion 2L Product Review

    By Patrick on 04/29/2010

    Verified Purchase

I don't know why the wood adjacent to my bath tub wet-wall was moist? I found no leaks and the plumbing vent to the roof was well sealed. Condensation? The bath drainpipe and water inlets come up through a hole in the slab. The subterranean termite varmints tunneled 10' or 40' under the house slab and surfaced at this point of exposed earth attracted by the moist wood. They swarmed the first warm days in Spring. I treated the exposed earthen area with the Dominion 2L termiticide and then filled it in with sand which is known to obstruct termites. I treated the slab, wood framing, floor and molding with a 2:1 water to Bora-Care mixture. I sprayed Bora-Care down from the attic and drilled holes in the walls where there was no other access. I finished by treating the ground around the house with Dominion 2L. This is my first experience with a termite infestation and my problem appears to have been solved for under $170. I Thank DoMyOwnPestControl.com for providing professional products at fair prices.

    Effective

I used this material to treat a very large tree in my yard that was being attacked by termites and large black ants. I previously used products from Home Depot; a complete waste of money. Within one day, I could not find any activity.

    Good Value

    By Robert on 05/21/2010

    Verified Purchase

I found the process not that difficult.  I used a short pickax to dig the trench, and needed 2 containers of Dominion. I found the tech support from the website to be great, but still have to wait a while to see if all termite activity ceases.  So far so good, no new mud tubes, and its been 3 weeks since the application.

    Dominion 2L works as advertised

    By Robert on 06/12/2010

    Verified Purchase

I trenched around my house (using a small pickax) and applied Dominion 2L as directed by the very helpful staff at DoMyOwnPestControl.com. It's a month and a half later, we replaced a threshold that was eaten up, and there doesn't appear to be any signs of termites.  This wasn't easy, but it saved a bundle. Also the carpenter ant gel sold on this site is very effective. Thanks again!!

Q
Can you inject Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate into a tree to treat borers?

Have borers

A

When using Dominion 2L Termiticide for bores, it is labeled to be applied as a soil injection which includes grid systems, circle systems, basal systems, and soil drench applications. This product cannot be injected into a tree for borers. Also, please keep in mind injecting product into a tree directly needs to be done by a trained specialist with the right equipment, otherwise more damage could be done to the tree.

Q
Can Dominion 2L be sprayed directly onto hemlock branches to treat for wooly adelgid?

Have already poured solution in ground holes around hemlock tree.....

A

Dominion 2L will be most effective when applied as a soil drench for pests such as wooly adelgids. If you have branches that are very badly infested, then you may want to trim these branches rather than trying to control a heavy population there. If you would like to use a product that will have a faster topical kill for existing adult adelgids, then you could use a pyrethroid insecticide such as Talstar P.

Q
How much Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate and water mix do I use to pour around the base of a 12-foot tall crepe myrtle?
A

Depending on the target pest, Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is applied at 0.1 fl oz to 0.4 fl. oz per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) Apply uniformly as a drench around the base of the tree in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop the solution from reaching the root zone. Please refer to the Table Chart on page 33 of the product label for the target pest.

Q
Does Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate kill ants, roaches, bed bugs, crickets, aphids?
A

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate cannot be used inside so is not labeled for bedbugs nor is it labeled for common crickets.  It can be used as a perimeter spray outside around the foundation for ants and roaches or as a systemic soil drench on plants/trees for aphids.  You can review the product label for the list of insects it controls and application instructions.

Q
My neighbor recommended Dominion 2L, but in the crystal form to treat white flies. Do you have the crystals?

She told me that it would treat white flies in my palm trees and in my ficus trees, but to fertilize at the same time. What do you think? Please let me know.

A

Dominion 2L is not in the form of crystals, it is a liquid concentrate. It is is labeled for white flies as a systemic control. It is not a fertilizer. We recommend for white fly control that you measure the height of shrubs and diameter of the trees and apply the solution as a soil drench. You can apply Talstar P for a foliar spray (on not edible trees and shrubs) while the systemic control is working for immediate control.

Q
Will spraying Dominion 2l at the base of the slab against the dirt and slab do any good at termite control?

I saturated the ground around the slab of my house several times.

A

Dominion 2L is to be applied in a trench and drilled holes for the best subterrean termite treatment. Applying topically on the slab or soil will only eradicate insects that travel on top of the soil.

Q
After treating a 'crawl space' perimeter and piers what safety precautions should be made?

Noted all 'interior' applications are limited to spot treating only. Wondering what steps should be taken after treating a crawl space, since air from there can often easily move up to the house itself though floor boards.

A
All of the treatment in the crawl space should be made inside a trench which you will cover back up.  Dominion 2L is a very safe termiticide and does not have fumes so no precautions are needed inside the living space.  We have sold this product for years to thousands of customers that have used this product inside crawl spaces and we have never had a customer that had any issues.

Q
Is Dominion 2L applied on the ground or on top of the foundation?
A

Dominion 2L Termiticide/Insecticide can be used in the soil and/or around the foundation. Where you are using the product will depend on what you are treating for. For termites, you will dig a trench around the structure and apply directly to the soil. For pests, such as ants, you will apply topically one foot up and one foot out.

Q
What rate & injection method would I use to apply Dominion 2L for ash borers?

I purchases Doninion 2L to treat some ash trees. I want to apply the product directly to the tree to avoid runoff. I have heard of people simply drilling holes in the root flair around the circumference of the tree, and filling them with the undiluted pesticide. Is this an acceptable method? What rate of Doninion 2L is recommended for the ash boring beetle? Your website says

A

We recommend a root drench using the higher rate of 0.2 oz of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter at breast height to treat insects like ash borers. We do not recommend drilling into trees or roots unless you are already an experienced arborist who has performed this type of treatment successfully before. Drilling will stress the trees, and if they already have ash borers, the trees are likely already under quite a lot of stress. An alternative treatment would be doing a bark band application of a dinotefuran product, such as Safari 20SG. Safari translocates very quickly through plants.

Q
Will perimeter treatment using Dominion 2L be sufficient on a paver floor?

I have a shed that has visible termite tubes. The shed has a cement footer around the perimeter but has pavers laid on sand for the interior of the 12x16 shed. My question is "Will perimeter trench treatment using Dominion 2L be sufficient to kill throughout the entire floor"?

A
The perimeter treatment with Dominion 2L will provide a great barrier treatment. The only concern is that the pavers will give cracks and access areas underneath the shed floor. If by chance the termites are deep in ground they do not come into contact with the Dominion 2L that you use for the barrier treatment, they will still be able to come up through the pavers through cracks and crevices. We recommend drilling into the pavers and pouring the mided solution directly into the holes. This ensures that you reach the soil underneath the floor directly. Come off the interior shed wall 2-3 inches, and drill 18-24" deep holes every 10 -12 inches apart. We recommend doing this in a checkerd board pattern over the entire slab. Mix 3.2 fl.oz / 4 gallons of solution and pour directly into drilled holes (each hole will hold approx 1/2 gallon of solution) You can refer to our article "How to Perform a Termite Treatment"
