    Q
Is Dominion 2L effective in killing Formosan Subterranean Termites?
I have heard different stories about Formosan Subterranean termites and how they are the "super termite", and that certain termite treatments are not effective in getting rid of the colony. Right now I can only afford Dominion 2L to treat my house, will this get rid of a Formosan Subterranean termite colony?
    A
Dominion 2L is effective on all subterranean termites - and Formosan termites are a type of subterranean termites - and will work just fine at eliminating them.

    Q
How do you get rid of termites inside the home?
Someone already asked this, but the answer wasn't clear. The article "How To Do A Termite Treatment" only explained how to set a trench system, not how to get rid of termites in the home.
    A
If you have termites in your home, you have to treat them directly with a liquid treatment. The termite baiting system is only meant to go into the ground around the perimeter of your house to prevent new colonies from entering your home.  If termites are already in your house then that means they have already found food. They will not leave your home to go to the termite stations.  If you have termites in your home, we recommend doing the liquid treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article and then inside the home where you know you have the termites you will treat them directly by injecting the Dominion 2L into the wall or cutting a hole into the wall and spraying on the wood or however you can get the product to the termites. It only needs to touch a few termites to work.

    Q
I noticed subterranean termites tubes in my garage.
I started poking the wood (all of it) and found a small area in the garage that was infested which I will have replaced. Unfortunately I didn't research before spraying with Spectracide Termite and carpenter ant killer from HD so they probably moved location. Since researching I have found that the 6"x6" trench with 4 gallons of Termidor per 10 linear feet of trench is the solution. I do not want to pay the pros for this so I would like to do this myself. After reading the labels it looks like a 4 ft. trench is required for the sides of the house that have a basement. Since the basement is not finished and I have access to all the beams can I just spray the wood with Dominion 2L or something else? I found the termite gallery outside of the garage which is the part of the house that is on a slab and no other mud tubes outside or in basement so can I get away with a 6"x 6" trench all the way around? I am a 50 year old 120 lb. Woman and do not mind hard work, but 4 feet deep is a little much. I looked at Boracide, but it seems like this is for drywood termites. I had the house treated by pros in the past so the basement has plugged holes. I checked the wood in the basement and did not find any activity? If there is nothing I can apply directly to the wood can I drill through the plugs and inject Termidor using a hand pump then re-plug the holes (I would rather not have to do this)? Thank you for your help.
    A
You do not have to dig the trench 4 feet deep.  You should do a 6 inch wide x 6 inch deep trench around the entire house, everywhere the ground comes up to the structure and apply at 4 gallons per 10 lineal feet.  Inside the garage where you have had activity, you should treat that area directly by drilling holes into the infested wood and injecting the Termidor or Dominion 2L product directly.  These 2 treatment options should take care of your issue.  Just keep in mind that Termidor or Dominion are not wood treatment products, so they will not protect the wood long term like they do when they are in the ground.  However, if they touch live termites in the wall or in the wood, the termites will take the product back to the colony as it was intended.

    Q
    Dominion 2L and birds
We will be treating one of our trees with D 2L which we purchased from you. What if any impact will this have on the birds that might be eating The insects on the tree? Specifically, what about Humming Birds that inhabit and feed in the tree n question...
    A
The Dominion 2L should have no effect on the birds that eat the insects. Once the product has dried, the level of poison on the surface is only enough to kill something the size of an insect so no secondary poisoning should occur. If you are worried about hummingbirds ingesting the poison from the nectar of the blooms, there again should be no effect once it has dried. To get a better understanding on how this product works and the effects if any it would have on birds or anything larger than an insect, you can contact Control Solutions at (281) 892-2500.

    Q
What treatments do you recommend for the Emerald Ash Borer? Can I spray the bark or sprinkle the material under the tree?
    A

Dominion 2L<span font-size:13.3333px"=""> is labeled to use on trees to help protect against boring beetles. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 10-14 days after applications to encourage uptake.

    Q
Does Dominion 2L lose it's potency over time when stored? Will it work on smaller ants?
I used Dom 2L last year for a carpenter ant problem. It worked great! I was just wondering if I stored it indoors over the winter would it still be as effective next year? Also, my mom's place in Fl has a bad ant problem. The ants are very tiny about 1/16th of an inch. I had to use a magnifying glass to make sure they were ants. I tried using Terro and they ate a whole bottle and seemed to multiply. I was wondering if Dom 2L would also take care of them
    A
As long as the product was not allowed to freeze or over heat Dominion 2L will last for several years in its concentrated form. Dominion 2L should take care of any ant species that crosses over treated areas.

    Q
Where to apply Dominion 2L as a drench?
I plan to use Dominion 2L on my post oak trees to control tree boars. I have read the label that came with it and I think I understand the mixture rates. However, I do not know where exactly to place the drench. Do I drench at the drip line, at the base of the trunk or somewhere in between? Also, can Dominion 2L be injected directly into an infested tree - if so how and where? One of my oaks is infested and I wondered if direct injection may give it a better chance? Thanks
    A
You can apply Dominion 2L as a drench any where between the base and drip line of the tree. You want to make sure that  you keep the soil moist for up to 7 days after applicaiton to ensure the product will be more quickly soaked into the root system. We do not recommend Injecting Dominion into the live tree. Please follow the product label for instructions.

    Q
I have recently noticed my home has some spots infested with termites in my attic. I'm not sure which type they are but I want these things gone. Would I be better off with the Dominion 2L or Termidor SC? Thanks in advance for your help.
    A
Subterranean termites and dry wood termites are two very different insects that require two very different treatments. We recommend that you get your termite infestation identified before you select a treatment method to be sure you are choosing the proper treatment method. Here two articles that can help you learn the differences between the two types of termites: Drywood Termites or Subterranean Termites. If you are still unsure after reading the articles you can always call in a professional company. Almost all termite companies will offer a free inspection and they will tell you what type of termites you are dealing with and how they recommend treating for the. At that point you can choose to hire them or do it your self. Termidor SC is the top termite product on the market. Termidor SC is completely undetectable by termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony. Termidor SC controls all types of termites including Subterranean, Formosan, and Drywood termites though the application method will be different for each type of termite. Bora-Care is the product we would recommend for treating the wood in the attic if you have drywood termites. We offer fast, free shipping. Please let us know if you need anything else. 866.581.7378

  • Asked by Lee from Burlington, Nc

    Q
Would Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate be as effective on white grubs as a granular product?
    A

Yes, Dominion 2L Termiticide works just as well for grub control as using a granular product as long as the amount of the active ingredient, Imidacloprid is the same. What makes either a granular or liquid product successful is the amount of water that is used at application since water acts as the carrier. Please see our Pest Control Guide for Grub control for a step by step guide on how to do a full treatment and what the best products are.
