    Q
Can I use Dominion 2L products to prevent termites? Must I dig a trench?
    I do not have termites.
    A
Yes, you can use Dominion2L to prevent Termites. If a colony moves in, this product will eradicate them by transfer kill. You would want to dig a 6inx6in trench around the structure. By applying Dominion 2L in the trench, you will be protected from subterranean termites for up to 7 years.

    Q
Does Dominion 2L leave a residue on concrete for ants to pick up?
Our home has a 2' wide concrete apron around most of the perimeter at ground level. The ground apron meets the block foundation. The block foundation extends 18” up from the concrete apron where it meets the siding. So there's really no soil to treat directly in contact with the foundation. We were going to spray Dominion 2L much like one would use Termidor for ant (not termite) control-- 1' up the foundation and 1' out from it and around the door and window frames-- but it looks like imidacloprid only binds to soil/foliage. Would Dominion leave a residue on the concrete foundation/apron or the door frames so that if the ants walked over it, it would eventually transfer back to the ant colony? If so, would this treatment need to be repeated every 30 days or so?
    A
You are exactly correct in how to apply the product around the foundation of the home and it does leave a residual behind. The longevity of the residual for termite control bonds to the soil for 7 years, but when used as a perimeter spray it will last at least 30 days on concrete/grass to control the ants. They will pick up the product without realizing it and transfer it back through the entire colony.

    Q
i have a few questions, first of all how effective is this product against drywood termites?
    A
If dealing with drywood termites there are better options available. You would typically remove and replace the piece of wood they are infesting, treat the wood with a product designed to absorb into the wood like Boracare which will last for the life of the wood, or inject a foam like Premise or Termidor Foam into the galleries where you know there is activity. If you already have dominion, you can use it to spray into the galleries and it will kill the ones that are currently there and the residual will transfer through the colony, however the residual is only about 6 weeks on the woods surface so it doesn't provide a long term protection like Boracare would.

    Q
    Does dominion work on wasps?
I use termidor to treat wasp nests that are in wall voids, when i cant get to the nest and need a slower acting pesticide to let the wasp spread it to each other. would i be able to use this product instead?
    A
The Termidor is a great product to use for direct treating a nest in wall void and of our non-repellant delayed kill products it is actually your most cost effective. Dominion is not labeled to control wasps or any flying/stinging insect so we could not recommend it for use as we are unsure if it would work for your needs. Another option would be what we normally recommend to all of our customers which is applying a dust like Tempo 1% Dust into the hole they are entering and leaving through. The dust will not kill them instantly and will get picked up on their bodies and wings and transfered through the nest to eliminate it entirely.

  • Asked by Trisha from Dequincy, Louisiana

    Q
I purchased termidor for a trench around our house. And dominion as agree drench. Will close proximity work?
We just built a house on piers. We purchased termidor for the house. Do we trench around the perimeter an also each of the 52 piers? We also purchased a bunch of rough cut lumber for a barn. We noticed each piece that touched the ground was eaten up and infested with termites. I sprayed demon wp and killed the visible termites but I know there are more. Can I use either of these products And spray directly on termites I see under wood around our 5 acres? Last question, we have several trees on the property. I have seen active termites at the base of each tree. I'm not sure if they are in the trees but all of the trees look sickly. What product should I use and how do I apply it to the trees?
    A

If you know where the termites are active we do recommend directly treating that area with Dominion 2L. You should trench and treat around the exterior walls, inside crawl spaces, and trench and treat around each pier for best results. Any part of the home that touches the soil should be treated around.

Termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees so you most likely will not find any products that will work as a ground barrier around the trees.  Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Termidor would be the best product to use for that, as it last 10 years in the soil, whereas Dominion will only last 5-7 years.  It is only labeled to be used adjacent to the structure though.

  • Asked by Alvin from Miami, Florida
    11/18/2013
    Q
I want to use Dominion 2L for white flies on plants on the porch. How much should go in 1 gallon of water?
I plan to apply 6-8 ounces of solution three times a month.
    A
It is important to be sure you are following the instructions on the product label for usage amounts allowed per acre per year.  When treating for white flies as a soil drench Dominion only needs to be applied twice a year.
You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.
We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
Will spraying Dominion 2l at the base of the slab against the dirt and slab do any good at termite control?
I saturated the ground around the slab of my house several times.
    A

Dominion 2L is to be applied in a trench and drilled holes for the best subterrean termite treatment. Applying topically on the slab or soil will only eradicate insects that travel on top of the soil.

Please review our termite treatment article below for addtional treatment information.

    Q
Will Dominion 2L kill/deter carpenter bees from my log home?
I previously purchased Dominion 2L and Delta Dust to treat my log home against carpenter ants and carpenter bees. If I spray Dominion 2L on the fascia of my home will it kill the carpenter bees that are hovering around?
    A

Dominion 2L is not a detterent, it is a non-repellent. It is not labeled for carpenter bee control. It can be applied a foot up and a foot out directly up against the structure for crawling insects that forage inside the structure and in the soil trench/drilled holes for termite treatment and protection. Delta Dust can be applied to cracks and crevices, voids and the holes that the bees bored in the wood and/or siding. Please apply a liquid insecticide concentrate to the structure's surface for eradication. I have included an article below that I you will find helpful.

    A
Yes, you can use the Dominion 2L instead of the Bayer Advanced with no problem.  Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label for the current application rate.

  • Asked by Tim from Naples, Florida

    Q
Can Dominion 2L be used for Spiraling White Fly in Southwest Florida? If so, can it be applied as a root drench and at what rate?
    A
Dominion 2L can be applied as a soil drench for treating spiraling whiteflies. It will be applied at 0.1-0.2 fluid ounces per inch of the trunk diameter (D.B.H.) or height of the shrub. It will take approximately 2-3 months to work throught the root zone so we suggest applying a foliage application of Bifen IT (to non-edible trees and shrubs) at one ounce per one gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. This can be applied monthly on the exterior of the structure.

  • Asked by Jaime from Vacaville, Ca
    12/12/2015
    Q
Can Dominion 2L be mixed with Talstar P?
    A

Dominion 2L should only be applied to the exterior of the structure for ants, termites, soil drenches etc for listed uses on the product label. It should not be mixed with Talstar P. Talstar P can be applied quarterly to the interior cracks and crevices and exterior listed areas. Dominion 2L is a non-repellent, but Talstar P is not, so mixing together would not be advised.

    Q
Why does Dominion 2L have a shelf life of three years when it has outside life of 7 to 10?
I am already having a termite company come the first time prior to finding out about this product we just put in Cedar as a wainscot in our living room and partial dining can Dominion 21 be sprayed on the cedar?
    A

Dominion 2L once in the soil will bind with the soil and stay there approx. 7 years. Yes, on the shelf if stored in a cool dry area will remain at top efficacy for up to 3 years. Dominion 2L is not labeled to be applied to wood to be used indoors. If you are looking for a product to treat and prevent wood boring pest, Boracare would be the best option.
