    Q
Can Dominion 2L be used as ground defense around fruit trees?
I want to protect my new fruit trees (apple, apricot, blueberry, and cherry) from subterranean termites and black carpenter ants. Can I use the trench perimeter method to protect my fruit tree and still be safe eating the fruit? How far away should the trench be from the base of the tree?
    A
Dominion 2L cannot be used in the manner you have described. Carpenter ants and termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees so you most likely will not find any products that will work as a ground barrier around the trees. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the entomologist or master gardener on staff or contact your local agricultural department for more information.

    Q
Can you use Dominion 2L to eliminate stink bugs?
I use this for carpenter ant control - can I use to get rid of stink bugs?
    A

The Dominion 2L is not labeled to treat for stink bugs and we would not recommend using for this pest.  We have put together an Overwintering kit that is just for stink bugs. This kit includes Demon WP insecticide with Cypermethrin, Eco PCO dust and a hand duster for easy application. You should treat once a month through November for best results

    Q
Can I spray Dominion 2L through my ortho hose end sprayer for grubs?
    A

Dominion 2L which will allow you to use smaller amounts to treat your lawn and shrubs in smaller amounts. You will use 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz per 1,000 sq ft for broadcast applications in whatever amount of water it takes you to cover that area. (Water only acts as a carrier so the exact amount of water used is not important.

    Q
Is Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate a good concentrate for grubs?
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate works well for grub control. What makes it effective is the amount of water that is used at application since water acts as the carrier. Please review our article on How to Get Rid of Grubs for successful control.

    Q
How does Dominion 2L compare to Termidor?
    A

Dominion 2L and Termidor SC are both non-repellent termiticides. One of the features of a non-repellent is that the product is undetectable by pests--they walk over it and touch it without knowing it, and then they are able to transfer the product to each other eventually wiping out the entire colony of termites or ants. Termidor SC does have a slightly longer residual in the ground. Termidor lasts about 10 years in the ground, and Dominion 2L will last around 7 years. Dominion 2L is a much better deal money wise; you can make double the amount of solution for a little more than half of the price.

    Q
Would Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate be as effective on white grubs as a granular product?
    A

Yes, Dominion 2L Termiticide works just as well for grub control as using a granular product as long as the amount of the active ingredient, Imidacloprid is the same. What makes either a granular or liquid product successful is the amount of water that is used at application since water acts as the carrier. Please see our Pest Control Guide for Grub control for a step by step guide on how to do a full treatment and what the best products are.

    Q
How do i use Dominion for indoor potting soil drench?
I have been using Bonide house plant granules (0.22% imidacloprid) in the soil of 2 large jade trees and other smaller pots in my sunroom to combat mealy bugs systemically. The Bonide label specifies how much product to use based on the diameter of each pot. Now that summer is here I can take the plants outside to spray them. As a foliar spray specifically for houseplants, the Dominion 2L label recommends 45ml/100gal which works out to be about 2.5ml or ½ teaspoon per gallon. That’s easy enough as a foliar spray but I want to drench the soil in each pot so the plants can continue to take up the imidacloprid through their roots. Since I have Dominion 2L, I’d prefer to use a liquid solution instead of using the Bonide granules in each pot. Question: Given that the label states Dominion 2L can be used as a foliar spray for indoor plants, do you see any problem with using it in the potting soil of indoor plants as well (like the Bonide granules)? The Dominion 2L label recommends a soil drench of 3ml-6ml per inch of tree trunk diameter mixed with enough water to deliver that amount of imidacloprid evenly. The label is referring to outdoor use but I’m wondering if that translates to indoor trees as well. For example, my indoor jade trees have trunks with 6” circumferences (1.91” diameters). To me, that means each jade tree that size would need 6ml-11ml of imidacloprid in their potting soil. I’d probably use 1½ teaspoons (7½ ml) Dominion 2L in a gallon of water for each jade. Question: Do you agree? But, what solution would I use for my smaller potted plans that don’t necessarily have trunks to measure? I don’t see anything on the label about a potting soil drench for indoor plants; the soil drench solutions for outdoor perimeter use (termites, ants etc.) are way too potent I believe. Question: Do you think it would be effective to use the foliar spray solution (1/2 teaspoon/gallon) on the leaves and then drench the soil with the same? I’m not convinced of this idea. It seems that the amount of water the product is delivered in is not as important as the specific amount of imidacloprid delivered per size of plant (or pot). Thanks for your help when you have time.
    A
You are pretty much spot on, on most of your calculations. There shouldnt be any problem using the Dominion 2L in the soil of the potted plants in a drench method. The amount you calculated for the jade tree is correct for the drenching of its roots. For plants that do not have a trunk circumferance large enough to really matter, treat the plant as a shrub and go by heighth to determine the correct amount of solution to use per foot of shrub height. The .6 ounces is foliar dilution only so it wouldnt be the best option to just use automatically if the plant is smaller and calls for less. Also, you are absolutely CORRECT in that the water acts as the carrier of the product so making sure the amount per plant is right is the biggest key. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

    Q
What is the application rate for soil drenching with Dominion 2L Termiticide on a Live Oak Tree that measures 187" in diameter?
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide is applied at 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees at the base of the tree inside the drip line. For a tree measuring 187” in diameter, the rate of Dominion 2L needed would would come to 18.7 to 37.4 fl oz for soil drenching. The minimum amount of water recommended for trees is 16 oz of water per inch of trunk diameter but can use more if needed. Based on the product label recommendation of 16 oz of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees, a minimum of 23 gallons of water would be needed. Keep in mind, water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved.

After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

Please review the product label for more information.
