    Q
Can a surfactant be used with Dominion 2L to treat termites in Oak trees via trench to help absorption?
If so which one do you recommend?
    A
We do not recommend using a surfactant with Dominion to treat for termites. The surfactant would take away from the non repellancy of the Dominion. If you have termites in a tree you would need to treat the nest directly by drilling holes into the dead parts of the tree where the colony is infested. The part where the termites are residing is dead and may not absorb the product as if it were taking in nutrients properly the section of the tree wouldn't be dead. Direct treatment is best for that reason, and also because the dominion as a drench would take several weeks to fully translocate through the entire tree. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Used Dominion 2L exactly per label for trenching and I still have ant hills????
Questions on Dominion 2L?? The ants are building more anthills on either side of my treated area, and even right on top of it. Does it work right away? It's been over a week. The fluid was milky / chalky and I diluted, dug, sprayed and poured exactly per your video and per the label. These are red and black soil ants. It was applied as a termite barrier but I thought it would also kill the ants. If the ants are thriving I don't think it is effective on the termites. Does it take a long time to work? Thank you for any advice you can provide.

    Q
Concerning Dominion 2L - I understand that it is a great product and than you for your equally great prices!
Concerning Dominion 2L, my neighbors have had termite problems --- but knock on wood, I don't. But it is only a matter of time until they find my house. I want to be sure to keep my house termite-free. I never put mulch near the house --- I only have bare soil next to my house. Dominion 2L will absorb into the soil and rain will eventually wash it further down into the soil just like with any other chemical. Here is my point and my question: I was thinking of mixing as your video suggests and then pouring it on the top layer of soil instead of the hard work of digging a trench all around the house. Over the coming cooler months of late Autumn and then followed by the Winter months and then well before the next termite season arrives in the Spring, the product will most certainly be well absorbed and washed into the soil surrounding my house. In other words, there is plenty of time for the product to get washed deep-enough into the soil before the next termite season arrives. I know that might not exactly be the preferred methodology but it would sure be better for my aching back. Do you see any noticeable problems?
    A
We do not recommend only treating the top layer of soil with Dominion 2L for termite treatments. Insects that crawl on top of the soil will be the only ones that will come into contact with the treated areas. Termites live beneath the soil and that is why the trenching method is the preferred treatment application for adaquate coverage. We understand that it is a labor intensive job and that is why the labor costs for professionals is pricey for some homeowners.

    Q
I bought Dominion 2L to treat for ants entering my home. What is the mix ratio?
I think they told me to mix 2oz. per gallon of water in a hand sprayer and spray 2 feet up the out side wall and a band 2 feet wide on the ground,is that correct. Thank you.
    A
For outdoor topical ant treatment applying Dominion 2L, the mix should be 0.6 fluid ounces per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. You should only apply one foot up and one foot out directly around the structure. Please let us know if you need anything else.

    Q
I am concerned about Dominion 2L, which was "pumped into" the soil of a large oak tree in my back yard.
It was used to control borers. It was used in the front yard on two red bud trees for the same purpose. I have talked to other tree specialists who said that Dominion 2L was a strange product to use for this. I am concerned that it may remain in the soil and affect my quality of life. There is a stream under my property and I live relatively close to a lake. I am building a swimming pool in the area of the large oak tree. All the bees in my yard disappeared after the Dominion was applied. What Texas entity can test the soil for me? If this was not the correct product to apply, who can I report the alleged tree specialist to?
    A

We cannot comment on any work performed on your property by any professional. We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of Dominion 2L for additional information. They can be reached at 281.892.2500 (Control Solutions).

  • Asked by Robert from Sacramento, Ca

    Q
Is Dominion 2L legal to sell to California residents?
I have termite tubes below hardwood floor and tubes behind refrigerator. What termiticide is best and legal for Calif? Thanks.
    A

Yes, Dominion 2L is legal to be sold to California residents. If they are subterranean termites, we would recommend using Termidor SC. It lasts for 10 years in the soil. You will dig a 6 by 6 inch trench around the structure of the home. You will pour 4 gallon per 10 lineal feet. Dominion 2L is a good option but only lasts for 5 years in the soil. If you are treating for drywood termites, you will have to treat the wood directly. We would recommend using Boracare. You will use the dilution of 1:1, meaning 1 gallon of Boracare with 1 gallon of hot water. You will do two coats of this on the infested wood. This should only be applied to untreated wood. We would recommend getting the specific termite identified before buying a product to use.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by David from Atlanta, Ga

    Q
How would I perform a soil drench treatment in my house is on a slope?
I would like to buy Dominion Termiticide to apply as a barrier around the house and set and forget (for 7 years at least). Several sides of my house has steep declining slopes against the house. What is the best method of trenching and applying to account for the slopes. I'm afraid that trenching 10ft then pouring the diluted mixture will run off. Thank you.
    A

You can do the soil drench treatment by digging a 6x6 inch trench around the foundation and pour 2.4 fl oz of Dominion 2L into 4 gallons of water per 10 feet. With the sides of the house with the slope make sure you are doing a backfill method. With the backfill method you want to treat the soil that was removed when digging the trench before placing it back into the trench. If you need any more information about our performing a soil drench treatment you can look on our Termite Treatment guide

    Q
Is Dominion 2L applied on the ground or on top of the foundation?
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide/Insecticide can be used in the soil and/or around the foundation. Where you are using the product will depend on what you are treating for. For termites, you will dig a trench around the structure and apply directly to the soil. For pests, such as ants, you will apply topically one foot up and one foot out.

    Q
Would it hurt to treat with Talstar P after a perimeter drench with Dominion 2L?
    A

We normally would not recommend to apply Talstar P over the same area a Dominion drench has been applied. It could cause the Dominion to pick up some repellency. Now, if you are only looking to apply a foliar spray to a tree or shrub you drenched with Dominion that would be just fine as long as that plant is non-edible.

  • Asked by Scott from Metairie
    11/08/2016
    Q
How much Dominion 2L would I use as a soil drench for whiteflies?
    A

For proper application the trunk diameter is important when treating whiteflies.

You will need 0.1 to 0.4 fl. oz.  of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.4 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. (For heavy current infestations, higher label rates are recommended). The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
What product is best to try and prevent trees from succombing to emerald ash borer?
I have cimarron ash trees (about 30 and in key locations in my development) about 10 inches in diameter bought from a nursery and planted about 20 years ago. All the white ash trees in my area are slowly dieing with the emerald ash borer. I assume these cimarron ash trees are vulnerable? if so, what product should I purchase to try and protect them and what time of year should I use it? How much shoulod I buy?
    A

We would recommend using Domnion 2L. It is labeled for use on trees for emerald ash borers as a preventative and a curative. This only needs to be done once a year. The mixing ratio is 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of the trunk diameter. This needs to be mixed in at least 5 gallons of water and poured around the roots of the tree.

  • Asked by Kenneth from San Antonio, Texas
    03/13/2017
    Q
How do I pour Dominion 2L on the trunk of Arizona Ash trees for web worms?
I know to pour 1 foot up from the ground. Could not find any info in the instructions.
    A

We apologize, but we are not certain exactly what pest you are targeting with your application. To treat trees with a systemic insecticide for sucking pests such as aphids, scale, whiteflies, you would use 0.1 to 0.2 ounces of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter and apply this as a drench around the base of the tree and root system. Please see the product label for complete application instructions.

If you have bagworms or tent caterpillars on your trees, then a systemic insecticide such as Dominion 2L will not be effective for these pests. Bagworms can be treated with a topical insecticide such as Talstar P before they are inside their protective bags. Tent caterpillars and other caterpillar stage insects could be treated with Talstar or with a natural Bt product such as Natural Guard Caterpillar Killer Spray with Bt.
