Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is labeled for grubs and is for use in all lawns types. For best control apply prior to egg hatch as directed on the product label.
We highly recommend to continue your trench of Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate next to your pony wall as well. This will give you a complete barrier for Termite Treatment and prevention.
When used as directed on the product label, Dominion 2L will not harm your trees or plants. Dominion 2L is actually labeled to use directly on trees and other plants for control of plant infesting insects. Please read the product label to learn how to correctly use Dominion 2L on vegetation.
When using Dominion 2L to treat for aphids you would mix 0.1 - 0.4 fl oz per inch of the trunk diamter in no less than 10 gallons per 100 sq ft of treatment area. You typically want to start about 12 inches from the base of the tree and out to the drip line.
Dominion 2L will be most effective when applied as a soil drench for pests such as wooly adelgids. If you have branches that are very badly infested, then you may want to trim these branches rather than trying to control a heavy population there. If you would like to use a product that will have a faster topical kill for existing adult adelgids, then you could use a pyrethroid insecticide such as Talstar P.
If you are considering using Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate for a termite treatment around the mobile home and there is concrete around the foundation, then you would need to drill holes into the foundation in order to apply the termiticide to the soil under the concrete. You would need to use a large hammer drill with an 18 or 24 inch drill bit about every 12 inches, then you would still apply 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet around the foundation. You can read more about this treatment in our Termite Prevention Article.
Dominion 2L is a great option for a soil drench on your trees. There are no resistance issues with this product that we have encountered.
We do also have products such as Zylam and Safari that can be used for emerald ash borers.
Dominion 2L lasts for 7 years when applied to the soil in a trenching application for termite control. It will last for 30 days when applied topically around the foundation of a structure.
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is not labeled for use on potted plants. Bonide Systemic Insecticide Granules would be a better option. This product will provide up to 8 weeks of control and has the same active ingredient as Dominion 2L.
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is not a wood treatment product. Depending on what you are treating for, you may be able to use a product like Bora-Care instead.
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is applied at one gallon every 10 sq ft. Some of our customers also use a 5 gallon bucket and pour the 5 gallons over 50 square foot sections which will be much faster than using a hand pump sprayer which comes out slowly. It is very important to apply more around the perimeter edges of the slab, around plumbing pipes that will come through the slab, and along expansion joints if you know where they will be. Since these are the more likely entry points of termites you want to make sure you treat more heavily around these areas. You should take general precautions when applying any product which would be to wear gloves, protect your eyes if it is windy, and treat only in the designated area where your slab will be poured. You will need at least 2- 27.5 fl oz bottles to treat 640 sq ft (64 gallons at one gallon every 10 sq ft).
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is not labeled for argentine ants. If you need to treat around the outside of your home, we would suggest a product like Termidor SC. Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait would be a good choice if you need to treat indoors.
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is labeled for Flathead borers on ornamental trees only. Monterey Once A Year Insect Control II is a product that also has the active ingredient of Imidacloprid, and it is labeled to control Flathead borers on fruit trees. Please refer to the label to make sure the fruit trees you need to treat are listed.
We recommend a root drench using the higher rate of 0.2 oz of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter at breast height to treat insects like ash borers. We do not recommend drilling into trees or roots unless you are already an experienced arborist who has performed this type of treatment successfully before. Drilling will stress the trees, and if they already have ash borers, the trees are likely already under quite a lot of stress. An alternative treatment would be doing a bark band application of a dinotefuran product, such as Safari 20SG. Safari translocates very quickly through plants.
When applying Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate as a drench around the base of the shrubs/bushes in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area is best.
It would not be recommended to apply Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate through a root feeder. However, there are a few other application options besides the root drench that you could do.
Soil Injection: Grid System: Space holes in a grid pattern on 2.5 foot centers, extending to the drip line of the tree.
Circle System: Apply in holes evenly spaced in circles, (use more than one circle dependent upon the size of the tree) beneath the drip line of the tree extending in from that line.
Basal System: Space injection holes evenly around the base of the tree trunk no more than 6 to 12 inches out from the base
You want to make sure that you keep the soil moist for up to 7 days after applicaiton to ensure the Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate will be more quickly soaked into the root system.
Dominion 2L can only be sprayed in attics if you are spot treating termites that happen to be there. It is also labeled for carpenter ants. Please see the product label for specific mixing rates and application instructions.
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is not labeled for Crane Flies. We would recommend Talstar P to spray the perimeter of the home, bushes, trees, shrubs, etc for control of Crane Flies. Talstar P should be used early to mid season to control the larvae of crane flies. This application should be made between August-February during times when the ground is not frozen. If treatments are made in March-April, they may only provide supression. You can consult with your local cooperative extension office for details on timing of application in your area specifically.
