Dominion 2L Termiticide - Questions & Answers

You would mix 0.6 oz of Dominion 2L per gallon of water to spray for carpenter ants around the outside perimeter.

Dominion 2L is mixed at 0.6 fl oz per gallon of water for treating carpenter ants. You will treat up against the structure (1ft up and 1 ft out) twice per year.

Dominion 2L is mixed at 0.6 fl oz or 3.6 teaspoons per gallon of water. Please refer to the product label for additional mixing and applications for this product.

It all depends on how far away the well or cistern is away from the property.  Here is the verbiage off of the instruction label for Dominion:

TREATMENT AROUND WELLS OR CISTERNS: Do not contaminate wells or cisterns.
Structures With Wells/Cisterns Inside Foundations: Structures that contain wells or cisterns within the foundation of a structure can only be treated using the following techniques:
1. Do not apply within 5 feet of any well or cistern by rodding and/or trenching or by the backfill method. Treat soil between 5 and 10 feet from the well or cistern by the backfill method only. Treatment of soil adjacent to water pipes within 3 feet of grade should only be done by the backfill method.
a) Trench and remove soil to be treated onto heavy plastic sheeting or similar material or into a wheelbarrow.
b) Treat the soil at the rate of 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet per foot of depth of the trench, or 1 gallon per 1.0 cubic feet of soil. Mix thoroughly into the soil taking care to contain the liquid and prevent runoff or spillage.
c) After the treated soil has absorbed the solution, replace the soil into the trench.
Structures With Adjacent Wells/Cisterns and/or Other Water Bodies: Applicators must inspect all structures with nearby water sources such as wells, cisterns, surface ponds, streams, and other bodies of water and evaluate, at a minimum, the treatment recommendations listed below prior to making an application.

1. Prior to treatment, if feasible, expose the water pipes) coming from the well to the structure, if the pipes) enter the structure within 3 feet of grade.
2. Prior to treatment applicators are advised to take precautions to limit the risk of applying the termiticide into subsurface drains that could empty into any bodies of water. These precautions include evaluating whether application of the termiticide to the top of the footer may result in contamination of the subsurface drain. Factors such as depth to the drain system and soil type and degree of compaction should be taken into account in determining the depth of treatment.
3. When appropriate (i.e., on the water side of the structure), the treated backfill technique (described above) can also be used to minimize off-site movement of termiticide.

When using Dominion 2L as a soil drench to trees and shrubs it should last for a full 12 months, however if you have a heavy pest problem you can retreat the soil after 6 months. 

We contacted the manufacturer of the Dominion 2L to verifiy if our suspicions were correct. The Dominion would harm the bees if the Dominion were applied topically as a foliar spray and they came into direct contact with that surface. A systemic application of the Dominion would not harm the bees as it would only bee absorbed by the types of insects that actually feed on the tree down past a certain level of the trees outer layers. You would not need to transplant any of your plants or flowers as this would not affect the bees or the pollen the plants produce. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

You can use Dominion 2L insecticide to treat scale on your crepe myrtle trees. You would apply this as a drench around the root system of each tree while the trees are actively growing. This is typically done in spring after petal fall. You would use 0.1 – 0.4 oz of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter at breast height diluted in water in a bucket or watering can and poured around the base of each tree. We generally recommend that you pair a soil drench with a topical spray such as a horticultural oil or a pyrethroid such as Talstar P for fastest results when treating for scale. 

Dominion 2L is NOT labeled to be applied indoors. It is used on the exterior of the structure only.

Dominion 2L is labeled to use on trees to help protect against boring beetles like Emerald Ash Beetles. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 10-14 days after applications to encourage uptake.

I assume you are talking about drill holes in concrete for termite control.  These holes can be re-treated using Dominion 2L.  You should read our "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article which explains how to treat a home for termites including the drill holes.

You need to get the Dominion into the ground, so you would typically want to drill holes in the tree stump, and around the tree stump into the ground, and then inject the Dominion inside any holes.  It will touch the termites that are inside and underneath the stump and eliminate them completely.

Dominion or Termidor could be used in the trench around the house and would be great to do so.  Termidor would last longer in the soil, 10 years or more whereas Dominion is about 5-7 years.

We would recommend using Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate. This is labeled for use on trees, as well as around the perimeter of your home for ants. This is also labeled for other insects as well. Be sure to spray the area directly where the ants are. The mixing ratio is 0.6 fl. oz. per gallon of water.

Dominion will not cover spider mites no matter which way you use it. A better option would be a foliar spray with something like Talstar which is a general insecticide which works well on a variety of mites; or you could go with Avid which is purely a miticide which will cover spider mites and a large variety of other mites specifically. Make sure to follow the product labels and reapply as it state for heavy infestations. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

If it was just a sprinkle, then no.  But if it rained enough to fill the trench and dilute the product quite a bit, then you probably should retreat, or at least add another couple gallons per 10 feet if the trench is open just to be safe.  Normally, the Dominion should be applied only when it is not going to rain for 24 hours.

Dominion 2L is not labeled for use on edible plants and any food plants treated with the product should be discarded. There are other products that share the same active ingredient that are formulated for use on edibles such as Imidapro 4SC or Monterey Fruit Tree and Vegetable Systemic.

Dominion 2L should be applied (1 ft up and 1 ft out) directly up against the structure once every 6 months for a topical barrier for carpenter ants. We also recommend that you bait for them. We carry the Dominion 2L along with a gel bait and a granular bait in our Carpenter Ant Kit #2.

You would not have to drill into the holes into the side of the brick of your home. Trenching around the home is the proper treatment method and you would only drill across concrete barriers like garages or porches where you couldn't trench. Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate can be used to treat for mealy bugs. The label states to use 1.5 fl oz Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate per 100 gallons of water as a foliar spray not a systemic. This would break down to approx. .015 fl oz Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate into 1 gallon water.

When using Dominion 2L, you should mix .6 ounces per gallon of water, or 2.4 oz. per 4 gallons of water.  Four gallons of solutions should be applied to every 10 lineal feet in a 6 inch wide by 6 inch deep trench all the way around the foundation of the home.
