    Q
Is Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate the best treatment for birch trees for birch borers and leafminers?
Can I use it in a hose sprayer as well as a soaker around the base of the tree?
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate can be applied to a birch tree for birch borers, leafminers and other listed pests. It is not recommended to apply with a hose end sprayer. It is suggested to perform a soil drench around the base of the tree and it will translocate up the tree.

    Q
Can you inject Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate into a tree to treat borers?
    Have borers
    A

When using Dominion 2L Termiticide for bores, it is labeled to be applied as a soil injection which includes grid systems, circle systems, basal systems, and soil drench applications. This product cannot be injected into a tree for borers. Also, please keep in mind injecting product into a tree directly needs to be done by a trained specialist with the right equipment, otherwise more damage could be done to the tree.

    Q
Will Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate kill aphids?
    A

It is usually recommended to do both a topical treatment as well as a systemic treatment for aphids. Our most popular choices for these are Talstar P (topical spray, water-based concentrate- use 1 oz per gallon of water) and Dominion 2L (systemic, applied as a root drench; use 0.2 oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees or per foot of shrub height for bushes). You may want to take a look at our article on Aphid Control for more information on treating this pest.

    Q
Can Dominion 2L Termiticide be sprayed on to grapes for Japanese beetle without destroying the grapes?
    A

Dominion 2L is not labeled for use on edible plants and any food plants treated with the product should be discarded.  You would not want to eat anything from the tree for at least one year or one growing season.

    Q
Can Dominion 2L be used indoors?
I want to spray the expansion joints (where the concrete slab meets the wall) with Dominion 2L. Why is it not recommended for interior use? If not recommended, what could be sprayed?
    A
Dominion 2L is not labeled for indoor use as a pest control spray meaning it is not permitted to apply to baseboards and out in the open.  We are not sure the exact reasons, but the manufacturer has placed this restriction on it.  However, you can use Dominion 2L indoors for termites.  You can spot treat inside for termites by treating inside wall voids or expansion joints since you are not spraying out in the open.

    Q
How do I treat my house with Dominion 2L?
There is a deck in the back of my house therefore I cannot trench. The front of the house is cement and I cannot drill, but I am able to crawl inside under the house. Can I just spray dominion around the concrete block of my house and let it drip down to the soil, or can I just spray on the wood bolt to the concert block since I saw tunnel from the soil up the block to the wood?
    A
Dominion 2L and all other termiticides have to go into the ground by digging a trench or by drilling holes.  Dominion 2L will not last on wood or concrete, so it does not good to just spray it on these surfaces.  Also, spraying on top of the soil does not work because termites do not walk on top of the ground, they enter a home from under the ground.  Are the boards in the back of your house running parallel to the house?  If so, you can remove two rows and trench and then replace them.  You should dig a trench in the crawl space and place the product in the trench and also trench and treat around the piers.  However, most termites enter the home from the outside perimeter, so you can very likely get termites from the outside if you do not do some sort of treatment outside.

    Q
How do I treat around Concrete Stairs for termites?
Pretty sure most of these concrete stairs are soil/gravel filled (not solid.) Do I treat the soil around the perimeter of the stairs or drill directly into the stairs at the top near the exterior wall of the house? (some are 3-4' high) Also, we have a crawl space so I will be doing the foundation perimeter there, will doing this cover that area enough so I can skip the stairs?
    A
When you are treating around dirt filled concrete stairs or porches, you should trench around the base and perimeter of the stairs or porch first.  Then, you are supposed to drill through the top of the stairs against the foundation or exterior wall of the house as you indicated.  This is to get the product into the dirt that is filled in the concrete stairs or porch.  You should absolutely treat the entire inside of the crawl space as well, but this will not take place of drilling the outside stairs.  You should do both.  This is because you never know where termites are going to try to get into your home and it is always recommended to cover all your bases and do the most complete treatment as possible.

    Q
How do I apply Dominion 2L Termiticide in block foundation?
Should each cinder block be drilled into each cavity (2 per block) or should be done every few blocks? Also once drilled how should Dominion 2L be used?
    A
When treating a block foundation, you should drill a hole in each void so there would be 2 holes per block.  The holes should be no more than 18 inches high.  Usually you want to drill on the second row of blocks high from the ground.  In addition to drilling the holes you should also trench and treat the outside foundation wall and the inside foundation wall if you have a crawl space.  After drilling the holes, you are supposed to apply 2 gallons of solution per 10 lineal feet into the blocks.  For filling trenches and drill holes going vertically into slabs, you should apply 4 gallons per 10 lineal feet.  Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Can I use Dominion 2L for tree & shrubs instead of Annual Tree insect control by Bonide?
This product has the same active (Merit) like Bonide Annual Tree & shrub but higher concentration. From a price point of view, can I buy and use for shrubs to save on costs?
    A
Absolutely. Dominion 2L contains the same active ingredient as the Bonide product that you mentioned and Dominion 2L is labeled to use as systemic insecticide. The directions for this type of use start on page 8 of the Dominion 2L Product Label.

    Q
Can I use this as a topical flea/tick treatment and/or preventative on my dogs?
In researching otc spot flea/tick preventatives for my dogs, I came across this product. I see that it contains the same ingredient, Imidacloprid, as K 9 Advantix. Purchasing those tiny pre-measured doses of K9 Advantix is VERY costly, so I thought I would see if I could buy a bottle of this and dispense 1mL/25lbs as directed on the Advantix. I have 3 sixty lb Boxers.
    A
We can only recommend uses for a product that are allowed on the label.  Even though Dominion is the same active ingredient as what is in K9 Advantix, the label does not permit placing the products directly on your pets.  Therefore we cannot recommend that use of the product.

    Q
How should I use Dominion to treat infested tree stumps?
I've purchased a house, which has several old cedar stumps in the back yard. Three of the stumps are infested with termites. One has a large ant colony deep in the stump. They are not the black carpenter ant, but the smaller brownish ones (moisture ants?). I purchased Dominion 2L to apply around my house, but I would like to know how I can use it to treat the termites in tree stumps. Thanks for your help.
    A
You need to get the Dominion into the ground, so you would typically want to drill holes in the tree stump, and around the tree stump into the ground, and then inject the Dominion inside those holes.  It will touch the ants and/or termites that are inside and underneath the stump and eliminate them completely.

    Q
How to avoid paying annual maintenance fee after subterranean termite treatment?
In 2008, I found subterranean termites in the basement. My house was only 12 years old! I had orange oil treatment done which was a major expense. They told me it should last about 7 years, but warranty was only 2 years. Their annual termite protection plan costs $450. One of the technicians left your flyer and that's how I found you! What should I do to keep my house, termite and other pests free from now on? I heard that my area (city, county) is TOTALLY infested with termites. I have an unfinished basement, two stories of living spaces(1900 sq), attic, and garage with finished walls.
    A
If you really want to protect your home against subterranean termites, than you should do an in ground treatment with a non-repellent termiticide.  To do this, you should read our How To Do A Termite Treatment article which explains step by step how to treat your house as if a professional company would.  If you do this correctly, you should not need to re-treat for 7 years and you will not need to pay a company a yearly renewal fee.

    Q
I am going trench out side of house with Termidor. Have termites in basement inside walls.
Do I drill 12 inches apart and use 1/2 holes? How much solution do I pour or pump in each hole? Which would be best to use termidor or dominion? How long is termidor to last vs dominion?
    A
When drilling through a slab you should use a 1/2 sized drill bit and the holes should be no more than 12 inches apart.  Just like outside, you should apply 4 gallons per 10 lineal feet inside.  So if you have 10 holes over 10 feet and need to apply 4 gallons over those 10 holes, it works out to be just a little bit under 1/2 gallon per hole.  Termidor and Dominion are both great products.  Termidor will last for 10 years and Dominion will last for 7, however Dominion is much cheaper than Termidor.  Dominion has been very popular because it is such a good deal right now.

    Q
If Dominion has been used in the soil around my house, is it safe to grow herbs in this soil. Im assuming not
If Dominion has been used in the soil around my house, is it safe to grow herbs in this soil. Im assuming not but how can I know if the soil has been contaminated by its use?
    A
You should not plant an herb garden that will contain edible vegetation in the same soil that was treated with Dominion 2L. Dominion 2L persists in soil for at least 5 years and it is not labeled to be used in places where edible plants will be grown. If you really do want to plant a herb garden in an area that was treated with Dominion 2L you will need to remove all of the soil and replace it with untreated soil. You should note though that if the soil is removed and it is in the termite treatment barrier zone you will be left with a hole in your termite barrier.

    Q
How long does a bottle of Dominion 2L stay viable for?
After a bottle of Dominion 2L is opened and re-closed (not never been opened nor left open without a cap), how long does it stay viable for? I'm asking this because I did not know whether it is better to buy more small bottles of Dominion 2L versus buying one large bottle. I won't be using it all once. I will be using it gradually.
    A
As long as you store the bottles of Dominion 2L out of direct sunlight and out of extreme temperatures you can expect Dominion 2L to stay effective for at least 3 years from the date of purchase. You should note that Dominion 2L is only available in 27.5 fl oz bottles.

    Q
I am using Dominion 2L Termiticide on a termite infested stump...
I purchased Dominion 2L to use on an old stump that is infested with termites. The stump is about 6-8' from the house. There are no signs as of yet that the termites have been in the house. What is the best way to apply to the stump? Also, should I dig a trench in the soil around the perimeter of the stump and apply there as well?
    A
You can drill into the stump and then inject Dominion 2L into the stump using a hand pump sprayer. You can also choose to trench around the stump and apply the product to the trench. If your house has not received a termite barrier treatment in the last 5 years you should plan trenching and treating around your home as well: How To Do A Termite Treatment
