  • Asked by Mike from New Market, Tn

    Q
Can Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer be used on Turf Type Tall Fescue Lawn for actively growing crabgrass?
    A

Yes, Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is safe for Bermuda grass, Kentucky bluegrass, buffalo grass, fescue, ryegrass, and zoysiagrass. It is not for use on St. Augustine, centipede, bahiagrass, bentgrass or dichondra, or fine fescue (unless the fine fescue is a seed blend).

Drive XLR8 is a great post emergent for actively growing crabgrass. For best results, a methylated seed oil surfactant like Duo Stick should be tank mixed for better coverage and faster burndown. A second application may be required for control of crabgrass.

    Q
Can I mix Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer with Dismiss in a tank sprayer? Also, will it harm bermuda? I am in GA.
    A

Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer requires the use of a methylated seed oil surfactant for best results and one is not required when using Dismiss so it would not be recommended to tank mix the products together in a single application.  Both products are safe on bermuda when used as directed on their respective labels.

  • Asked by Erik from Martinez, Ca

    Q
Will Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer kill on a dwarf fescue/bluegrass seed blend lawn?
    A

In California many varieties of crabgrass are resistant to quinclorac, which is the main ingredient used to control it across the country. The active ingredient Quinclorac in Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is safe for fescue but resistance is possible.

Q4 Plus which is quinclorac and sulfentrazone together for the crabgrass, or Tenacity which is a completely different active ingredient all together. Tenacity though works bests as spot treatments for post emergent control, and the manufacturer suggests only targeting young crabgrass with it as mature large clumps will take multiple applications or may not see complete control when at that growth stage.

Make sure every spring you are using a pre emergent like Dimension 2EW or Pendulum 2G Herbicide to prevent the crabgrass seeds from germinating so you do not have to treat for it later in the growing season. Pre emergents should go down right at or just before soil temps reach 55 degrees consistently.

  • Asked by Byron from Va

    Q
How soon after applying Drive XLR8 can I apply Gordon's Lawn and Pasture fertilizer 20-0-0 Liquid Fertilizer?
Last thing I want to do is to green up the crab grass I'm trying to kill.
    A

We typically recommend waiting atleast 24 hours up to 7 days in between applying herbicides and fertilizers to avoid overstressing the turfgrass unless previous applications have shown tolerance to using a fertilizer and herbicide together.

The Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer does advise that a liquid nitrogen fertilizer can cause some yellowing therefore a small test application would be recommended if deciding to tank mix.

Please review the product label for tank mixing instructions prior to mixing in your sprayer.

    Q
How much Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer would be used in 25 gallon ATV boom sprayer and how much area will that cover?
I think the flow rate is 1.5 gpm
    A

Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is applied at the rate of 1.45 fl oz per 1 gallon of water per 1000 sq ft. A MSO Surfactant such as Duo Stick should also be tank mixed at 0.16 to 0.48 fl oz per gallon of water for best results on weed control.

If using a 25 gallon sprayer, you will use 36.25 fl oz of Drive XLR8 + 4 fl oz to 12 fl oz Duo Stick to cover 25k sq ft.

  • Asked by Joe from Salisbury, Nc
    07/24/2022
    Q
Can Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer be used between overnight lows of 70 and daytime highs in the 90s for a prolonged period?
    A

To avoid any turf damage, Drive XLR8 should be applied when temperatures are between 65-85 degrees. It would be best to apply in the early morning or in the evening when temperatures are at their lowest so that the product has sufficient time to dry before temperatures get above this range. If temperatures are above 85 degrees, you should wait to apply the product when temperatures are lower. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions before use.

    Q
    Can I re-apply Drive XLR8/DyneAmic
14 days after the 1st application to spots I missed plus to spots I did not miss that don't seem to be responding? Or should I wait the full 3 weeks. After 3 weeks is a 2nd application recommended?
    A
You could potentially reapply Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer at a 14-day interval as long as you are treating established turfgrass and the turf is not otherwise stressed. Typically, you will need at least 14 days to start seeing the full results of an application of this product. Be sure that you are using a methylated seed oil surfactant such as Duo Stick for best results.

  • Asked by Abdul from Memphis Tn
    09/06/2022
    Q
Will Drive XLR8 Herbicide kill bentgrass in a bermuda lawn?
    A

Colonial Bentgrass and Seaside Bentgrass are listed as suseptible to applications of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer while Creeping Bentgrass is listed as moderately tolerant to the herbicide.

Refer to Table 1 and Table 2 on page 8 of the product label for addtional information. The addition of a Methylated Seed Oil Surfactant is needed to use with Drive XLR8 for best results.

The best treatment to eliminate bentgrass in bermuda lawns would be to spot treat with a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup QuikPro and then reseed/resod after 2 weeks.

Freak rain shower after Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer application
Applied Drive XLR8 and 4 hours later Raines for about 5 minutes. Do I reapply or am I good?
    A

As long as the application of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer had time to completely dry before rainfall it should be fine. If it was a heavy rainfall to cause puddling or runoff, we would recommend a follow up application.

  • Asked by John from Frontenac, Ks
    08/05/2011
    Q
I have dallas grass, crab grass and water grass.
Is there anything that will kill these without killing my fescue?
    A
Unfortunately there is nothing that is labeled to selectively kill dallas grass, and not your fescue.  So for the Dallas grass you would spot treat it with a glyphosate product, which would kill the Dallas grass and also a little bit of the surrounding fescue grass. Then re-seed with fescue in those areas where the surrounding fescue was killed.  For your crabgrass you can use Drive XLR8, which may also take care of the water grass.

  • Asked by Ron from Ormond Beach, Fl

    Q
Drive to Kill St. Augintine and Torpedo Grass
I plan on replacing St. Augustine with Zoysia in the spring. Would it be more efficient to use Drive XLR now to kill everything instead of using RoundUp Pro Max?
    A
You may fair better with using the Roundup or any other Glyphosate product like it if you plan to take it to bare ground to reseed anyways. If there are more weeds and weedy grasses like crabgrass than actual lawn that would ensure you got all of the problem plants. Whereas using the Drive will eliminate many problem weeds/grasses however may not eliminate all of the ones in your lawn if they aren't all on the product label.

  • Asked by Chris from Georgia
    04/22/2014
    Q
I put down a weed and feed back in March, but weeds are still there but slowly dying.
Would it be smart to re-apply the weed and feed or simply go with a fertilizer?
    A
To reapply, all depends on what region you are located in and what you are treating for. If you still see weeds coming up, we may recommend using Drive XLR8 Please review the product label to see if this product will treat your specific weeds and not harm your lawn.
