Didn't work for me
By John on 04/28/2023
First, the instructions give you application rates per 1,000 square feet. I'm doing spot spraying and I need to know ounces per gallon in the sprayer. I guessed to the high side, and hit some large plants. Virtually no impact.
Expert response:
We apologize you did not achieve the intended results. Drive works best on young newly emerged weeds, more mature weeds may require repeat application. Drive also requires the use of an MSO surfactant for best results. We would welcome the opportunity to troubleshoot the application to help get you the results you need. Crabgrass smarter than me
By Jason on 08/17/2020
I have used Drive XLR8 along with Duo Stick 3 times over the past 45 days. I have had zero luck. A few sprigs here and there turned purple for a few days but nothing ever turned white and died. First batch was 1.5oz per gallon, nothing happened, second batch was 2.5 oz per gallon and again nothing. Last batch about a week ago was 4oz per gallon and nothing. I have added the correct amount of duo stick for each spraying but zilch. It has been an extremely wet summer for TN so the product has had plenty of moisture to get absorbed into the roots. Guess I have some serious superman crabgrass or I just do not know what I am doing. Time to try a different product because the crabgrass in my yard is taking over the entire yard very quickly.
Kills the Crabgrass Un-harms the Good Grass

Drive XLR8 Works
By Gene on 07/23/2014
This did a job on my crabgrass. Its been 1 1/2 since spraying and one mowing later it appears to have gotten most of the crabgrass. I may have to follow up in a few areas that had an extra heavy concentration. It did not do anything to the yellow sweet clover I had and only wrinkle the buck horn a little but did not kill as best as I can tell. Then again, maybe it wasn't supposed to.
Not Bad
By John on 09/06/2015
My fine fescue lawn was completely infested with crabgrass and chickweed. I wanted something that would knockout the crabgrass and weeds in one application. Based on other's reviews, I purchased (2) two 1/2 gallon containers of Drive XLR8 and sprayed my lawn using a 15 gallon tow behind sprayer. The chickweed was and crabgrass was completely dead within 2 weeks. However, I still have an infestation of smooth leaf crabgrass that the Drive XLR8 did not had no effect on. Also, the crabgrass that had previously died came started to come back to life within a month after spraying. I ended up purchasing a few quarts of Bayer Weed Killer with Crabgrass control to spray the smooth leaf crabgrass. That took care of the smooth leaf crabgrass as well as the crabgrass that had began to show life once again. Though the Drive XLR8 works well, (with the exception of not killing the smooth leaf crabgrass) it is quite expensive compared to Ortho, Bayer or Spectracide. Next time I'll just go with the cheaper stuff that seemed to do the same job.

Crabgrass control
By Kevin on 08/24/2015
This is the second year in a row I've used Drive xlr8. I use a pull behind sprayer, electric pump tsc 40 gallon. 60 0z of xlr8, pint of southern surfactant and it kills crabgrass. I have sandy soil and was infested. Next year I should be down to a pump sprayer.

Excellent for Crabgrass in NJ
By Mike on 09/21/2012
Just applied this to my 25000 Square Foot Lawn at 1.45 ounces per 1000 Square Feet. Used a 20 Gallon Pull Behing Sprayer on Fescue and Bluegrass Lawn. Excellent Results, all crabgrass was killed and lawn was unaffected. Noticed results in 3-4 days over entire lawn. I had 3 dry days after spraying as well. Thanks.

Drive
By John on 09/25/2011
Easy to remember, a neighbor told me about it. The mixing instructions were easy enough to follow and one has to know what application he is making. The sprayer I am using mixed it automatically once I knew the tbsps/gallon to set on it. The crab grass simply started to disappear after a few days.

XLR8
By Gjroman on 10/08/2014
The fall application appears to have killed the crabgrass which was my intent. Spring will indicate if it was a job well done. Why can't the spec simply say how many oz. of product to use per gallon of H2O for various applications?
Expert response:
When applying herbicides, it is most important to apply to correct amount of product per area for the best results. Because your water is only a carrier, how much water is needed to accurately distribute the herbicide will vary greatly depending on the type of equipment, density of vegetation, and moisture content in the soil. We recommend calibrating your equipment with water first to determine what mixture works best for your application and with your equipment.

XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer
By Bill on 10/03/2016
So far, it doesn't work. I have spot crabgrass in a Bermuda lawn in Southern California, so I mixed a gallon of herbicide and surfactant. I have spot sprayed the crabgrass 3 times (a week apart) and it looks quite healthy. I may try a heavier concentration than the package recommendation, but would also appreciate any suggestions.

K.O. for crabgrass!
By Jarrod on 08/28/2016
Works excellent. I mixed it with methylated seed oil to cut through the wax coating and had great results. Couldn't get one gallon of mixed product to cover a 1000 sq ft though - more like 500. Targeted just the crabgrass, nothing else - just what I needed!

Killed Clovers
By Chuck on 07/08/2015
I had a lot of clovers coming up and taking over the grass. Doesn't kill the things sprouting from acorns but those aren't as much of a pain to pull. A week later they were back, but it is easier to spot spray or pull some small ones than it is to pull 50 sq feet of clovers. I am in Maryland, used 4 oz per gallon in a backpack sprayer with 1oz per gallon of MSO added. I applied once and then 20 days later. For the second half of the yard I applied once then 18 days later. Grass only browned around where clovers were. A week after the first application there was some browning. A week after the second, clovers were gone.

Has yet to work for me. I had a BAD crabgrass outbreak.
By Stanley on 07/13/2017
In a matter of a week my entire back yard was taken over. I ordered XLR8 thinking it would cure my problem. I only have a gallon sprayer but that just happen to be about the amount I spray while walking 1000 square feet (or so I thought). I mixed the 1.45 ounces as directed with the seed oil and walked my yard spraying 6 days ago. The crabgrass has tuned a ever so slight yellow, but is still mostly green. I used an areal sf calculator app to break down my lawn into 1000 foot section rectangles and it turns out I needed to mix my gallon tank at least 6 times. I only mixed it 3 times originally. So tomorrow I will give it another try and amend my rating.

100% Satisfied!
By David on 10/17/2021
I was searching for a product that would help me take back control over my lawn from crabgrass. After neglecting my yard earlier in the year due to an excessive amount of rain and flooding, by late August my lawn was inundated with crabgrass. I ordered the kit and first followed the directions and mixed a 4 gallon amount in a backpack sprayer. I spot sprayed that amount around the perimeter of the house and waited about 5 days. The crabgrass was noticeably doing in 3-5 days. Once satisfied that the chemical had not harmed my Tall Fescue, I mixed a 20 gallon amount in a tow-behind pump operated aerator sprayer and covered about 2/3 of an acre. This product did exactly what it said it would. Kills crabgrass and doesn't harm Tall Fescue. Truly a satisfied customer.
Drive XLR8

Skeptical at first. I have been searching for a post emergent crabgrass killer for years. I bought Drive a few weeks ago and mixed it with a surfacant as the labels instructs. Used in a 3 gallon tank sprayer. Within 3 days crabgrass turned brown and died. Made a second batch and went over the spots I missed a week later. My yard is a fescue blend crabgrass free. Drive is a excellent product and well worth the money.

Drought
By Rathman on 08/24/2015
Drive does work but not in drought...mixed 1.5 drive per gallon an .05 non ionic surfactant...i also did run sprinklers night before. They yellowed out then came right back...didnt rain for 2 days had irrigation turned off also turned back on in 3 days. Then did 2nd app...same yellowed came back...an 2nd time ground had perfect moisture two intake chem...unhappy.
Expert response:
We are sorry to hear the Drive was unable to perform due to drought! Unfortunately the stress of drought causes the plants not to be able to properly take up liquid which does indeed mean that herbicides cannot perform as needed.

It works great!
By Les on 08/14/2020
This stuff works so well you MUST follow label for rate of application. I will admit to being one of those guys that will add an extra couple ounces per gallon to assure kill. Not with this stuff...it doesn't take much. I also love that it kills broad leafs as well...so when spraying crabgrass and you see that occasional dandelion you can hit it.
Seven days
By Tim on 07/15/2017
I sprayed Drive XLR8 on Sunday, July 9th. Temp was ~78 but clearly heading to the mid 90s that day. I used roughly 2oz per gallon. The change to the crabgrass was obvious by Wednesday morning. The weeds took a nose dive by Friday and were dead by Saturday morning. I took daily pictures hoping to load them here but don't have that option. Drive XLR8 worked extremely well for me.

Used for growing crabgrass and it works.
By Larry on 09/04/2020
Found this same product at a local co-op for $60.00. Disappointed on line buying was higher than retail store. Product works as advertised. Drive XLR8 is a high concentrated chemical and goes on at a very low rate per 1000 sq.ft., which extends the coverage over thousands of feet out of one half gallon. Also this product works on migrant broad leaf weeds, so it's a bonus product as well.

Herbicide That Works !
By Jc on 08/29/2018
I applied Drive XLR8 on a Saturday morning, along with the Prime Source Duo Stick Adjuvant, on my fescue lawn that had several patches of mature crabgrass. By Monday afternoon, 95% of the areas I spot-sprayed indicated crabgrass that was dying (light tan color) and wilting. I mixed a gallon of the product according to the label directions. Bottom line, this is Herbicide that works !

Drive XLR8
By Jim on 05/01/2017
This stuff is unbelievable. I have 2 acres of grass. I have battled weeds and crab grass for years. I picked up a 30 gallon sprayer I tow with my lawn tractor. I used Drive XLR8 last year. It killed all the crabgrass and weeds. This year I only had 2 dandy lions..my neighborhood was covered. I did not spray yet this year. Is this a pre-emergent?
Expert response:
We are happy to hear that this product worked well for you. However this is a post emergent so it will only work on what you already have. If you are looking for a pre-emergent too, while Drive is not a pre-emergent, you will often see a reduction in weeds because you eliminated them in the last season and it takes time for them to build back up in some case. In the future you may want to put down http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/dimension-2ew-herbicide-p-1494.html or http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/prodiamine-65-wdg-generic-barricade-p-2495.html.

Crabgrass Killer That Worked
By James on 09/08/2015
I have 2 1/2 acres and lots of crabgrass. Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer has been the best I have used to kill the crabgrass and other weeds in my yard. I am spot spraying where some did not die when I used my tank sprayer. I hope to have all the crabgrass gone using Drive XLR8.
