yes it works
By Fyrcapn on 10/07/2016
I use this with a surfactant. it is expensive but you only use 1.5 oz per gal. The draw back is if you wait (like I did ) till sept or so, the crab grass really takes hold and spreads (south Carolina) so you end up with large dead patches. Its amazing how that stuff spreads. I know the grass will fill back in again. I used amine 400 with it and did not have any bad grass damage. war on weeds and war on crabgrass, it never ends. next year --pre-emergent then touch up with drive earlier than sept.

Crabgrass killer suoreme
By Sam on 08/31/2016
This stuff totally killed the crabgrass D E A D! However, it didn't do anything else to any of the other weeds in my pitiful Bermuda lawn in Georgia. I do have some Trimec 992 coming to take care of the broadleaf weeds and I also put down some Dimension 2EW for pre-emergent for the fall and I'll reapply the Dimension in probably Februaury before the spring warming and crabgrass seeds and Poa start to sprout again. Drive is the crabgrass slaying product it claims to be.
worked reasonably well
By Don on 06/20/2020
I used Drive XLR8 (with recommended surfactant) as a spot treatment on crabgrass. The lawn itself was 1-2 months old blackjack bermuda (i.e. seeded). The Drive had little to no harmful affect on the bermuda. I'm opting to do touchup spot treatments every 2 weeks for a couple more treatments. reason is two-fold: instructions admit that crabgrass w/ 2-4 tillers may need extra treatment. Also, when doing spot treatments, I miss some of the crabgrass plants. The good news is that after 2 weeks it is obvious which crabgrass weeds are dying and which are not. I'd estimate I initially had a few thousand crab grass plants; at least half of those are dead after my 2nd treatment. The plan is to knock the crabgrass back some more and let the bermuda stolons do their thing. Next year I'll use pre-emergent and hopefully have minimal crab grass to control. Obviously I couldn't use pre-emergent when seeding a lawn. Though the lawn is probably only 15% crabgrass with rest being bermuda, I'll admit treating entire lawn instead of spot treating likely made more sense. Spot treatment is just more my thing.
Best I've found for mature crabgrass
By Dave on 08/13/2016
Better than any herbicide you can purchase at a box store. I've been fighting crabgrass for years and have tried numerous products. Pre-emergent never seem to last through the growing season and other products are not very effective on mature plants and require several applications. Noticeable results in three days and after a week I would say it is a 99% kill rate. I have 4.5 acres and only applied with 2 different boom sprayers. I properly calibrated my sprayers and mixed Drive per the manufactures recommendations. A little pricey but money well spent.

Not Impressed
By Matt on 07/11/2011
For the cost and effectiveness, I would not buy this product again. Using the recommended doage, the herbicide only stunted the growth of some weeds, and even killed some of the grass. Most of the weeds remained unchanged. I am going to try going beyond the dosage to see if this works, but as of right now, it is not worth the hefty price tag.

It Most Certainly Works
By Greg on 08/01/2016
Mixed 2 gallons water, 6 TBsp of Drive, 8 TBsp of 2 4-D Amine (broad weed killer), and 3 TBsp of Methylated Seed Oil (recommended to increase effectiveness). Used a tank sprayer to spot treat on a lawn with Kentucky Bluegrass and fescue. It rained about 10 hours after spraying...didn't matter one bit. In ONE day the crabgrass and clover was yellowing and dying and all the other grass was totally fine. Amazed at how fast and effective it is. Highly recommended. I can't vouch for how effective it is without the seed oil, but seeing how effective it is with it, I suggest you use it. If this doesn't work for you, you're doing something wrong.

Not impressed so far
By Jason on 08/30/2015
I sprayed drive xlr8 over my lawn a few weeks ago per the mixing instructions and haven't noticed good results. The front lawn I even went over twice during the same application. I've only noticed about 10% of the crab grass turn brown. I plan to re-apply since I have an abundance of this stuff. Poor results may be because the crabgrass is so mature (it was applied in August). I had anticipated better results after reading the reviews.

Waiting to see
By Jerome on 09/03/2022
Hard to write a serious review as it's only been a couple of days since applying the chemicals. After carefully reading all the instructions for the kit, I safely mixed the chemicals and applied the solution using a pull behind, 15 gallons tank with boom sprayer. My target weed is crab grass that made it through the spring pre-emergent application I did. After a couple of days, I have noticed some browning on the crab grass. But there are other areas that aren't affected at all by the chemicals. Still waiting to see after 5 days. What i thought was crab grass might not be crab grass after all. I honestly couldn't tell if this "KIT" is good or bad. Still waiting to see.

Most Amazing Crab Grass Killer
By Mike on 10/01/2012
I'll have to say that I was very skeptical about this product when I found it online. I bought it only beacuse nothing else worked. I have a mix of fescue and bluegrass in NJ. I applied it according to the directions at: 1.45 oz per 1000 sq ft. In 3 days all of the crabgrass was dead and the fescue/bluegrass was unharmed. I seeded the dead areas and all is good. Highly recommended.

DRIVE out crabgrass and other weeds
By Scott on 09/09/2022
Been purchasing all lawn and insect chemicals from domyown for past three years-commercial grade effective products that groundskeepers and exterminators use and unavailable at local big box or garden centers, Great. prices, fast sometimes free shipping, easy online ordering, able. to view product label and application instructions. Applied Drive as directed with surfactant using Chapin battery backpack sprayer Used primarily for mature crabgrass that escaped pre-emergent treatment in spring, especially along edge of driveway and sidewalk and also for several. spots of white clover and black medic Within 2 days noticed crabgrass turning yellow eventually reddish brown It's been 2 weeks, little if any crabgrass, clover and black medic total kill, no harm to lawn Compared to products found in. big box stores is considerably more effective higher concentration and more economical. Drive 18.92% Quinclorac @ high app rate of 1.5 oz/gal=$1.49/1000 sq ft Weed-b-gon with crabgrass control only 2.13%. Quinclorac @ app rate of 4 oz/gal=$1.68/1000 sq ft, used this last year with very poor results Highly recommend Drive!

Worth the price!!!
By Joe on 08/29/2016
After trying several selective herbicides to only have the crabgrass turn slightly brown and bounce back, I decided to spend the money for drive xlr8 and the suggested methylated seed oil. After 1 application on a sunny day, I noticed most of the smaller crabgrass was browning within 24 hours. After 3-5 days, most was dead. Some of the larger areas took a second application but at least I have my yard back. 4/5 because of price, but it's worth it.

Best $86.50 I've Spent On My Lawn
By Anonymous on 08/27/2013
Over many years, my 1 acre of turf has been invaded by a number of weedy grasses. The most annoying and hard to control for me has always been crabgrass. I'm talking big areas of nothing but crab invading otherwise decent fescue. I'm always on time with the proper pre-emergent crabgrass fertilizer/herbicide from the big box retailers, but it never seems to do my lawn much good. This year, preparing to do some fall lawn renovations, I picked up this herbicide. I made the first application in late August when my crabgrass was absolutely thriving. I have a backspack sprayer, and a hose end sprayer. After carefully reading the directions, I measured up the correct dosage to treat 15,000 sq. feet and mixed it up with the recommended non-ionic surfactant. I used my hose end sprayer to evenly disperse the mixture over the proper number of square feet, and the results after a few days were remarkable, even without rain to help the product absorb into the plants and work more effectively. I would estimate that the first spraying killed or severly damaged 75% of the crabgrass that was alive and thriving in my yard. In addition, it also managed to kill a bunch of other weedy grasses and weeds. Two weeks later I applied a second applications and I am confident that my lawn will be 95% to 99% crabgrass and weed free. It's only been two days since then, so we'll see. The product was enough to easily cover my 1 acre when mixed with the recommended surfactant, at the recommended dosage, twice. I can't recommend enough and am looking forward to getting more for next year. Than you for the great product, and thank you to all the reviewers who influenced my decision.

Potent Cocktail
By Ken on 05/23/2016
Posted same review on another product.Used DyneAmic with Drive XLR8 and Certainty on newly seeded Princess 77 yard 100' x 80'. After 3 weeks, Princess and Quackweed started to emerge. Used landscaper who infected my front yard with this crap. Several areas of crabgrass also noticed. The above cocktail, properly mixed per instruction, killed the crabgrass within 4 days, and the quackgrass, one week out is now a bright yellow. Will be applying a second mixture to the quckgrass in another week just for the overkill. Princess grass still smiling.

Crabgrass Killer?

Disappointed
By Ryan on 09/18/2021
I had high hopes for this stuff, just as I have had with previous expensive herbicides I've tried. First the good. My crabgrass is turning brown and I assume it will eventually die, although it's too early to say for certain. Another application may be necessary. The bad is that it has had zero effect on any other weeds in my yard. Both wild violet and ground ivy are thriving after treatment, which is unfortunate. I have spent hundreds of dollars on herbicides and followed the directions precisely. I have consistently been let down by these more expensive products that don't live up to their expectations. In my personal opinion, a cheap bottle if 2 4 D is the most cost effective solution for weed control that I have found thus far, but I will continue my quest. I do think I am done with the upper end products. They seem to be better at killing my wallet more than weeds.
KING Crabgrass Killer
By Matt on 06/07/2024
Bye bye crab grass. Hammer dead in two days. Mix per directions and use dimethylated seed oil as a surfactant and you will have the most effective crabgrass killer on the planet. Apply when temperatures are below 85 to avoid temporary yellow tinting of turfgrass.
It works

Murders crabgrass!
By Daniel on 08/27/2016
I had a huge crabgrass outbreak and this product was incredibly effective in killing it off quickly. Most of my crabgrass was 5+ tiller. I used a pump sprayer and spot sprayed my whole yard. Only spots of my mixed lawn with fine fescue showed some yellowing. The bluegrass tall fescue and ryegrass was completely unaffected by the herbicide. Exactly what I expected.

Use with methylated seed oil
By Matthew on 09/09/2015
This stuff worked very well. I live in Virginia and I had several patches of well-established crab grass infesting my fescue lawn. Using this with the MSO as recommended on the label worked very well, noticeable change in 72 hrs, brown dead crabgrass in 1 week! Controlled other weeds as well. Worth the cost. Plan on using this and alternating with Tenacity (mesotrione) for weed control throughout the season.

Works great
By Jamie on 09/16/2016
My yard was being taken over by crabgrass and i seemed to be waisting my money on the normal over the counter chemicals. My initial impression was that the price was high... however I soon realized this is highly concentrated and the cost per acre ended up being the same. I was pleasantly surprised with the results as my crabgrass problem has turned into a brown spot problem (dead crabgrass). Follow the instructions and your good to go.

Effective but spotty
By Johnson on 08/19/2015
Recently used Drive xlr8 with dyneamic surfactant on later stage crabgrass 5-6+ tillers. with a hand sprayer at the recommended rate of 1 1/2 oz per gallon. Tried to be sure product was well mixed and applied evenly but found very erractic results. Some plants taken out completely others unphased by the product.Have used the granular drive in the past with good consistent results.

Works
By John on 10/29/2021
Bought this mainly for torpedo grass but what it did to the crabgrass was amazing. No yellowing or browning of lawn and within 3 days the crabgrass was dead or dying. It also took out most of the torpedo grass but required a second application. I tried it on spurge which it is not listed for and it took that out also. I highly recommend using the bluing agent so you can see what you have done.
DRIVE xlr8
By Dave on 09/29/2018
Mixed 64 oz. per 55 gallons of water plus 75 oz. of 2 ,4,D killed basically all crabgrass and most chickweed and broadleaves. I used 3 55 gallons sprayers for right at 2 1/2 acres. Very satisfy with the results. I noticed a yellowing of the crab grass about 24 to 30 hours later completely dead on the fourth day. Would have already plugged and sown grass seeds and fertilizer but it started raining.

Drive XLR8 Works
By Gene on 07/23/2014
This did a job on my crabgrass. Its been 1 1/2 since spraying and one mowing later it appears to have gotten most of the crabgrass. I may have to follow up in a few areas that had an extra heavy concentration. It did not do anything to the yellow sweet clover I had and only wrinkle the buck horn a little but did not kill as best as I can tell. Then again, maybe it wasn't supposed to.
Killer Crabgrass Killer!
By George on 07/05/2019
The past several summers, crab grass has invaded my bermuda lawn. I tried several national brand crabgrass herbicides from a home improvement store. Quite expensive and produced zero results. This year I tried Drive XLR8 and Prime Source Duo Stick. I mixed 1 1/2 oz herbicide to 1 gallon water +added stick in a tank sprayer. I sprayed the entire lawn. Within a week, all of the existing crabgrass had died. I will need to do a spot application in a few areas that new growth has appeared. 64 oz jug was about $60 or $1.42 per mixed gallon. Works and less expensive than worthless national brands.
