The Real Deal
By John on 09/25/2013
I never thought that I would be able to control crabgrass, I was skeptical about XLR8 also. I had hired a person to spray my lawn but all he killed was clover, the crabgrass flourished. In three days after applying XLR8 the crabgrass was dead. Great product!!!!

Have used Drive for several years. Works best on juvenile crabgrass plants. Mature crabgrass sometimes requires a second application. Superb product. The few negative reviews must have been posted by persons who applied the product incorrectly. Drive works every time and is the best post-emergent crabgrass herbicide for tall fescue lawns.

Crabgrass Killer
By Greg on 07/21/2014
This product works like advertised. It kills crabgrass of all sizes and quantity, and nothing else. It didn't hurt my lawn and didn't even kill any other weeds. The crabgrass was dying within 2 days. I had to spray for those weeds separately as I didn't combine the Drive with anything else other than a surfactant because I wanted to see just what it would do. If I ever have to use Drive again, I would combine it with something like Crossbow. This stuff works when used as directed. It is a little pricey, but if you want to rid your lawn of crabgrass, this is the product to buy.

Drive XLR8 Works
By Gene on 07/23/2014
This did a job on my crabgrass. Its been 1 1/2 since spraying and one mowing later it appears to have gotten most of the crabgrass. I may have to follow up in a few areas that had an extra heavy concentration. It did not do anything to the yellow sweet clover I had and only wrinkle the buck horn a little but did not kill as best as I can tell. Then again, maybe it wasn't supposed to.
DRIVE HERBICDE WORKS
By Larry on 07/28/2014
Recently used drive on my lawn, I had some new seeding that I did not use a premerge herbicide. Really nailed the crabgrass, also good activity on the broadleafs. Used crop oil as labeled and watered a few days later. We have been having good rains prior to application.

drive XLR*
By Mack on 07/28/2014
Worked great on my crabgrass. The crabgrass showed signs of dying in three days. I did not get good coverage of the yard when I applied the XLR8 so I needed to re apply it. I think it's great for crabgrass. Did not damage the lawn.

XLR8
By Gjroman on 10/08/2014
The fall application appears to have killed the crabgrass which was my intent. Spring will indicate if it was a job well done. Why can't the spec simply say how many oz. of product to use per gallon of H2O for various applications?
Expert response:
When applying herbicides, it is most important to apply to correct amount of product per area for the best results. Because your water is only a carrier, how much water is needed to accurately distribute the herbicide will vary greatly depending on the type of equipment, density of vegetation, and moisture content in the soil. We recommend calibrating your equipment with water first to determine what mixture works best for your application and with your equipment.

Horrible!!!!!!
By Oscar on 02/15/2015
This product has not worked at all. I followed directions to the T, but about the only change I seen is a color change to weeds. I would not recommend purchasing this product.
Expert response:
It may take multiple applications to fully eradicate the weeds you are targeting. Also, if the plants are not actively growing, it may take many weeks for the active ingredient to translocate through the plant. We would be happy to discuss your situation over the phone at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST.

Kills crabgrass
By Bl on 07/07/2015
I didn't think this would be able to kill mature crabgrass right in the middle of summer. I did the recommended mixture for spot spraying in a 2 gallon sprayer and mixed in some MSO. After 3 days, the crabgrass (and barnyardgrass) started to wilt and become red and were on their way out. I had too much of the weeds that I had to apply this again a second time. After 2 weeks of the second application, most of the crabgrass were either brown or dead. I still have a few left here and there so I will just take care of those later, but I'd say 95% of the crabgrass + barnyardgrass was taken care of.

Did not work at all
By Charles on 07/07/2015
Bought with the recommended SouthernAg surfactant. Mixed according to specifications in the manual stuck to the bottle, along with the recommended amount of surfactant in a 2 gallon pump sprayer. Sprayed lightly several times, sprayed heavily several times. Sprayed before I cut grass by several days, sprayed some after it was cut and stressed. Results: Kills white clover easily, did absolutely nothing to the crabgrass no matter how much was sprayed, or if I increased the amount mixed with water to 3x the recommended, or when I sprayed it. I won't be buying it again.

Killed Clovers
By Chuck on 07/08/2015
I had a lot of clovers coming up and taking over the grass. Doesn't kill the things sprouting from acorns but those aren't as much of a pain to pull. A week later they were back, but it is easier to spot spray or pull some small ones than it is to pull 50 sq feet of clovers. I am in Maryland, used 4 oz per gallon in a backpack sprayer with 1oz per gallon of MSO added. I applied once and then 20 days later. For the second half of the yard I applied once then 18 days later. Grass only browned around where clovers were. A week after the first application there was some browning. A week after the second, clovers were gone.

It works!
By Mike on 08/15/2015
Crabgrass was choking out my newly seeded yard. I mixed a half gallon of Drive xlr8 with 20 gallons of water and a pint of seed oil surfactant per acre and 3 days later the crabgrass started turning yellow. By the tenth day 90% of it was dead or dying. 3 weeks later some of the crabgrass is trying to rally but I'm sure a second application would cure that. And the rye, bluegrass and fescue was virtually unharmed and is now the dominant growth in the yard.

Drive Kills Crabgrass RIGHT NOW!
By Bernie on 08/16/2015
This is, without any doubt, the best post-emergent crabgrass control I've ever used in my half-century-plus of lawn care. Sprayed from a trailer tank sprayer on my 1 acre lawn, and the extensive crabgrass was completely brown after 48 hours, and after one week, only a sporadic few plants remain. Combined with an early spring pre-emergent, I'm confident my crabgrass problems are over. I initially balked at the price (especially when combined with a surfectant), but the results were well worth the investment. Good product!

Great for spot application by nonprofessional homeowners.
By Brenda on 08/17/2015
Just look for Table 5. When I was shopping I was dismayed by vendors acting like the only way to use it is blanket application in 1000 foot swaths. Not so. We use a one gallon plastic milk jug well rinsed and follow the instructions on Table 5, including using methylated seed oil which we obtained from another source. Then we decant it into a 32 ounce plastic spray bottle we bought at Lowe's. Walk the yard and spray by hand. It works great. We have beautiful lush emerald zoysia and it has not hurt our grass. We wish it would hurt the bermuda that has invaded in a few places but for now we are happy that the crab grass clumps that we spray are toast. It will take a long time to go through 64 oz., we don't mind.

Effective but spotty
By Johnson on 08/19/2015
Recently used Drive xlr8 with dyneamic surfactant on later stage crabgrass 5-6+ tillers. with a hand sprayer at the recommended rate of 1 1/2 oz per gallon. Tried to be sure product was well mixed and applied evenly but found very erractic results. Some plants taken out completely others unphased by the product.Have used the granular drive in the past with good consistent results.
